DWMonday ~ Le Marais

I got a great deal on a jelly roll of this from Fat Quarter Shop when I used my gift card recently. I love French General fabrics!

I had a block pattern in mind, but cut three strips wrong. Ugh. So I changed my mind about what pattern to use and got back to cutting.

I’ve always wanted to make a quilt with these blocks anyway! Figuring  out combinations of fabrics is great fun!

I hope to sneak a block in here and there over the holidays. My inlaws will be joining us this week from Missouri. We shall see if I get any more of these done!

Have a wonderful day!

Reinforcements

As I mentioned, I am getting to the end of my kitted up projects. But not to fear, hubby arrived with reinforcements this week! I still have several layer cakes that I brought with me as well. Someone suggested before I left  that I set aside a box of things he could send in case I was running low on projects, and it was a very good suggestion indeed! I did just that and it made it easy for him to grab that box along with a few other things. This is what he brought from home.

You can always come up with a charm pack project!

Remember these? If I run out of stuff to do, I will be forced to finally put this together!

The last bits for Daughter #3’s QOV.

My Fat Quarter bundle of Good Neighbors.

Some yardage of my favorite white.

And a couple more layer cakes!

It is so nice to finally have him here! I haven’t done any sewing this week and his parents are arriving on Monday so things will be slowing down here for sure on the quilting front.  But I’m prepared in case I do have time!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ 30’s Ohio Stars Top

It is amazing to me how fast projects come together when they are all cut out ahead of time! My die cutter made kitting up projects for my stay in AZ so efficient!

These quarter square triangle bits were pieced as a leader/ender project last summer.

I cut the rest of the pieces just before I came out here for the winter.

I started piecing this before my parents came.

I didn’t get any sewing done while they were here, but it came together quickly while watching Gilmore Girls!

And here it is! At this point, it measures 75 by 85 inches. I will add borders when I get home.

Have a wonderful day!

TBT ~ Ladder Quilts

I started a series of ladder quilts quite some time ago. Every now and again, I revisit this theme. Most of these have hung in a local art show.

I thought I had a picture of this one finished, but I can’t find it now!

WIP Wednesday ~ Scrappy Fence Rail Leader/Ender

It’s been a while since I shared progress on my leader/ended project. I was able to move ahead thanks to an infusion of scraps from Ila! Here is my stack of blocks.

I stopped st Three Dudes Quilting in Phoenix a couple weeks ago and found the fabric on the left below. I think I will use it for a border.

I think I’m really going to like this one!

Gratitude

That’s the name of the mini charm pack that I purchased from Fat Quarter Shop.

Gratitude is something I have been feeling much of late. This temporary move has had its ups and downs. But one thing it has shown me, is that there are many kind and generous people in the world. I’ve had complete strangers welcome me into their homes and feed me lunch.  I’ve had people I have never met send me their phone numbers in case  I needed anything out here. I’ve been invited to sewing days and to tag along to quilt shops. I’ve even had a lovely box of fabric and thread sent to me by a generous blog reader! And I can’t begin to express how wonderful my son and his family have been to me.

As I mentioned before, I had a plan for this charm pack, but I wasn’t happy with how it was turning out. So I moved on to Plan B. And here is my little finish before washing.

The backing and binding came from the above mentioned box of fabric and it was quilted with that thread!

Here it is after washing.

I have been here 7 weeks today. While I miss my family back home, I have never felt alone. God is faithful and He has sent everything I have needed, when I needed it. Indeed, my heart is full of gratitude.

Before I sign off today, a reader, Edwina, had a question I could not answer. Perhaps one of you could leave a comment and help her out. She wrote:

“Is fusible batting still available? Our local Joann’s does not have it, but instead recommends a fusible “fleece”. It makes the project very stiff. Fleece is the word she used, but it’s more like a stiff backing.”

Thanks for any insight you can give on this.

Have a great day!

DWMonday

I’m getting to the end of the projects that I kitted up to sew while I am here in AZ. I did bring some pre-cuts along though. I don’t really remember when I bought this layer cake of Let Freedom Ring by Nancy Gere for Windham.  But I did buy a bit of yardage to go with it. So  I got out that rotary cutter and got to work.

I almost never work from patterns, but I decided to use this. It is a free download from Moda.

I did change a few things, but nothing significant. Here is a peek:

I added a few bits of other lines I had laying around as well. This will eventually be a Quilt of Valor. Here is the yardage:

Just for fun….

Having grown up in Wisconsin and living most of my adult life in Michigan, celebrating Christmas in Arizona feels slightly odd to me! I’ve been enjoying the local Christmas decorations on my morning walks and thought I would share a few with you.

This last picture shows how my very creative daughter in law decorated their front door.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Dresden Fans Mini

Remember these little leftovers from my Blueberry Park Half Rectangle Quilt top?

I chopped them up using this tool:

And made them into tiny fans.

I appliqued them to backgrounds and added quarter circles in the corners.

I used my walking foot to quilt the grid and made a binding from more scraps.

The quilting is pretty wonky but I love the texture!

Here are a few pictures after washing.

I love the crinkles! It finished at 12 inches square. That was a fun little finish!

Have a great day!

This and That Thursday

I had nearly a whole day to sew on Tuesday. I started by laying out rows for the quilt. I pinned each set together so I could clear the design wall.

Then I started piecing this little quilt. My first idea didn’t work out so I decided just to piece all my little bits together. Maybe I’ll like it better when it’s done. I wish I had mad a tiny tumbler quilt instead of this.

I hade my usual help in the sewing room.

Did you know you can go to 2016bestnine.com and find out your most popular Instagram posts for the year? Pretty cool!

Also, I hit a new Fitbit milestone this week. It’s kind of silly, but I find these things quite motivational!

I started another project yesterday too but I will save that for another post.
Have a great day!
