A Little Crazy….

So even though my house is over run with cute little people, I decided it would be a good idea to load a huge quilt on the frame. Remember the Sea Sick top?

Yeah, it still makes me feel a bit queasy. Anyway, I had to get some labels embroidered for the QOVs I had to present which required babysitting the embroidery machine. Luckily I had some help.

This boy is obsessed with all mechanical things! When he had enough of that, he started some artwork of his own.

I pulled out a couple panto options.

With this crazy top, nothing will really show much anyway.

DWMonday ~ Quilting Design Ideas

Since I have finally gifted Daughter #2’s QOV, I will be sharing finish pictures soon. I thought first, I would show you some of the ideas I cycled through for the border quilting.

I’ve mentioned before that I use an app called Adobe Ideas on my iPad to try out quilt designs. Sadly, it is no longer available. I’m sure there are others out there that work as well. In the end, I went with the ribbon candy design (6th design from the top). I’m not thrilled with it, but it hardly shows anyway and I do like the texture it gives.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Blueberry Park

I’m so excited to share this finish with you! I pieced this top last winter in Arizona from a layer cake of Blueberry Park by Karen Lewis. It is a beautiful line of fabric. I mentioned earlier that I added a bit of a twist to the quilting. This is what it looked like when I shared with you last:

I quilted this using my pattern boards. When I finished, I removed the quilt from the frame, turned it 90 degrees, and reloaded it. Then I quilted it again using the pattern boards to achieve this wonky grid.

I loved every this effect! Granted, it takes a while as I essentially quilted the whole thing twice. But it definitely gave the crisp and funky look I was going for.

Vintage Quilts and a Batting Question

First of all, I had lots of questions regarding the batting I am using in the little vintage quilt I shared yesterday. I wish I could tell you all what it is, but I can’t. It was a piece of cotton batting I found in my stash, left over from an earlier project. I think it is some variety of Mountain Must, but honestly, I don’t know for sure.

And now for today’s post.

When I bought the little top I showed yesterday, i saw many other lovely quilts and I thought I would share them with you.

I still love 9 patches!

And scrap quilts will always be my favorites!

I spotted this sweet little crib quilt and was tempted to bring it home.

The blocks were only about 4 inches! It was worn, but so sweet.

Not a quilt, but you don’t see coverlets like this everyday.

This top appeared to have been made from very worn fabrics. I love the 30s fabrics.

Check out the border on this wool log cabin!

This top was also very tempting. But it had quite a few fabrics that were extremely thin and would need replacing if it is to be finished.

I was tempted to spread out this friendship quilt, but there wasn’t room.

Here is another I would have liked to spread out.

This log cabin looked like it had been cut down from a larger quilt. The binding and backing were much newer than the center.

Do As I Say…..

I often have people ask me if it is okay to wash vintage quilt tops. I always emphatically say no! I have seen so many lovely tops that turned into a frayed ball of threads from being washed before being quilted. But then I bought this top that I shared last week. See that dirty spot in the middle? It bugged me so badly that I hand washed this little top.
