LeMarais Update

Hubby leaves tomorrow so I haven’t done much sewing lately. I did finish 20 of these blocks.

I don’t really have enough bits to make another row of blocks.  But precuts of this line are on clearance on Craftsy, so I might buy enough to make more. I really do love these!

Have a great day!

A Quilty Christmas

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Thanks to my daughters, I had a rather quilty Christmas here. They got me this wonderful bag for carrying my hand work projects!

It zips closed on top and has pockets all the way around! They also got me some charm packs.

A yard of this awesome fabric:

And another cool bag:

I also got some beautiful hand dyed yarn, but I forgot to take a picture of that.

I got money from my parents and spent it at SAS Fabrics in Tempe. Here is my haul.

Hubby will be leaving at the end of this week so I’ve been packing up some things for him to take home. Would you believe I have an entire suitcase of projects for him to take home?  I will have a week alone and then my sister will fly in for a couple weeks. We shall see how much sewing I get done! But my priority is always family first.

I hope you got done quilty things for Christmas too! Have a great day!

Best of 2016

Cheryl over at   Meadow Mist Designs is hosting a Best of 2016 linky party.  This is a chance for bloggers to look back at their best posts over the past year. Best can be defined as most popular, most comments, or even just your own personal favorites. I decided to share my five most popular finishes of the year.

My most popular post of 2016 was my Scrappy Rectangles post. This has been pinned literally thousands of times on Pinterest.

Next is General Grant’s Bow ties.

Then we have Twist.

My Beach Ball quilt   comes in at number four. It might be due to the pics of my adorable grandson!

Finally, my Dear Betty quilt was my fifth most popular finish of the year.

It’s been fun to take a look back at these finishes. Head on over to Cheryl’s site and check out the linky party!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Doe

I picked up three charm  packs of Doe by Carolyn Freidlander when I visited Missouri Star last fall.

I picked up some Kona at the local JoAnns and cut them all up 2 1/2 by 5 inch rectangles.

Then I started mindlessly sewing twosies.

Pressed them all towards the dark.

Then I sewed the twosies into foursies.

This will eventually become a grad gift for a guy. I love these fabrics!

Have a great day!

A Savior is Born

“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.””

Merry Christmas Eve!

We are making great memories this Christmas. It is our first time celebrating in Arizona.

Hubby has been here for a while. Here we are at the 5k Jingle Bell Run last week.

His parents are here for the holiday and we are enjoying our time with them.

I am thrilled to spend Christmas with my son and his family, though I mss everyone back home. Just look at these adorable boys!

Merry Christmas!

P.S. I am so far behind responding to comments that I will never get caught up. Many of my posts lately have been scheduled ahead as I knew I wouldn’t have much time with family and the holidays. I appreciate each of you visiting and leaving comments. I read every one. They are such an encouragement to me! I hope to be better at responding in the new year.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Let Freedom Ring QOV

I finished the QOV top that I was working on recently.

This next picture was taken before adding borders, but I think it shows the truest color.

And here is the finished top! It ended up approx. 62 by 76 inches.

I mentioned earlier that this was a free pattern from Moda called Morris Modernized by Barbara Brackman. It is a perfect pattern for using a layer cake.

Have a wonderful day!

TBThursday ~ Finishing Vintage Quilt Tops

It’s been a busy week with the holidays and family, so I thought I would pull a few things from the archives to share with you today. These are all vintage quilt tops that I finished by quilting them on my long arm machine.  The first two were made from tops that hubby gave me for Christmas one year.

.

I purchased this nex top in an antique shop. It didn’t lay flat at all, so I quilted it into submission with  a medium density meandering.

This next top was made by hubby’s  grandma.

And this last top was purchased at an estate sale.

I hope you enjoyed a look back! Have a wonderful day!

WIP Wednesday ~ Le Marais

I am loving these blocks! Not sure how many I can get from this jelly roll, but I am enjoying the process. Here are a few I have done.

A couple tips…

I’ve had several people ask what I use to hang my quilts to take photos.

I found these at Ikea in the laundry area.

A package of two costs about $2.50. I can’t remember what Ikea calls them. The hook swivels. I’ve found them to be quite handy.

I made myself a little design board to keep my block pieces together when I carry them to the machine.

There are directions to be found online for fancier design boards, but mine will probably be tossed out when I leave here so I didn’t want to put much time or any money into it. So I used a scrap of batting and a box. Here is the not so fancy back.

I just used a glue stick to turn the extra bits to the back side. I’ve been using this quite a bit and will probably make another when I get home. Heaven knows I have plenty of batting scraps!

I hope you found these useful. Have a great day!
