Design Wall Monday

I hope you all had a great weekend. We did. I had time to sew yesterday and worked on the baby quilt that I cut out last week.

This is my favorite print.

I also got another QOV in the frame and hope to get this quilted today.

I just need to decide how to quilt it.

But first, Little E will be coming over to play while his mommy has an appointment.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching and Crafterday Recap

I’m definitely looking forward to a bit of this today:

I really want to get one corner of Brinton Hall done.

Yesterday was a wonderful time with Daughter #1.

And Daughter #3.

Daughter #1 brought her Cricket over and helped her sister make this beautiful garland.

Daughter #3 stayed longer and decorated this wreath for her door.

I worked on quilting this QOV.

And embroidered some parts for Baby E’s stocking.

This one will go to Daughter #1’s house.

I did cut the curtains to length and hope to get the appliqué started today.

Have a lovely Sunday!

It’s Crafterday!

My two local daughters are coming over to make stuff today! I can’t wait. I only with my AZ daughter and daughter in love could join us.

I finished quilting another QOV from the Stitching Sisters group.

This is the first time I have used this pantonand I really love it! It is called Photon Wave #2 and it is from Urban Elementz.

I hope you get some sewing in today!

Finish It Up Friday ~ QOV

I had my Intrepid Thread challenge piece all done and the blog post written when I realized the big reveal isn’t until January! I had this QOV loaded and needing a Friday finish was just the motivation I needed to get it done last night.

Cool top made by a member of the Stitching Sisters QOV group. The quilting was a hard fought battle though.

Sigh.

See this white on white fabric?

Every time I hit this, the top thread jumped out of the tension discs.  Every time. You see these fabrics have the design applied like paint. It sits on top of the fabric instead  of soaking into the fibers like dye. It feels rubbery. When the needle hit that, it grabbed onto the thread and pulled it right out of the discs. This isn’t the piecer’s fault. But it was very frustrating. I stopped and ripped on every row.

Here is a look at the back.

I’m so glad this one is done! What have you finished this week?

Free Motion Quilting

I spent a bit of time practicing some free motion work earlier this week.

I’m not really over the moon about any of these.
I was trying to come up with a good idea for quilting my pillow top for the Intrepid Thread challenge. In the end, I went with swirls.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time yesterday morning looking for my box of zippers. I want to finish this today, so it may end up without one!

I also hope to get a QOV loaded up today. But first there is work and then visiting a friend.

Have a lovely day!

WIP Wednesday

I’ve felt a bit restless this week and seem to move from project to project without focusing on any one thing for long. This morning I started cutting for a new project. Like I needed something else to distract me!

These are cut 3.5 by 6.5 inches. I will be needing a few baby quilts for gifts soon and these fabrics should work well for a boy quilt. Not sure how I will set them yet.

Either way, this will be a quick, mindless bit of fun to put together.

I purchased some cheap stockings to embroider with the new babies’ names to add to the mantle.

I couldn’t find the felt ones I’ve used in the past. I’m not thrilled with how the embroidery on fur turned out. But a bit of trimming seemed to help.

Have you jumped on the adult coloring book craze? My hubby bought me a couple of the books and I did this one with fine line Sharpie markers the other day.

The markers bled through and I think I like the back as much as the front!

I’ve also been making a bunch of calzones for the freezer. I know, me cooking. Crazy! But they are nice to have on hand for a quick meal or to take to a family going through stuff. And so many people that I know are right now.

Today I will be receiving 10 more Quilt of Valor tops to quilt.

I should start thinking about Thanksgiving preparations.

And about those curtains….

Some vintage inspiration….

Last week, we stopped at an antique mall and had a wander through. I didn’t bring anything home, but I was tempted by a few quilty things. In the end, I decided pictures were all I needed. First, was a pile of huge Grandmother’s Flower Garden blocks.

These were 20 inches across!

They were beautiful and not a bad price. But I have enough hexie projects of my own to finish! I also loved this quilt top.

Such a great block pattern! Sadly, someone had washed this unfinished top, causing the seam allowances to fray badly. It needed lots of repairs and was a bit out of m budget anyway. I want to remember this block pattern though, I can see myself using this.

Hope you are all having a great week!

Design Wall Monday

I finally did a bit of sewing yesterday. I added some borders and now have the Intrepid Thread challenge piece loaded on the long arm.

I spent some time trying to decide how to quilt it with the white board and some playing on this piece of fabric that I painted a few years ago.

And I made a few more stars.

And no, the curtains are still not done! Ugh!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I haven’t really spent any time in the sewing room since Tuesday! But I have gotten some more handwork done while watching some TV with hubby.

I’ve prepped some more hexies for Brinton Hall and started adding some of the scrappy  sections.

I still have a long way to go.

I’m going to try to get the mister to watch an episode of Foye’s War with me tonight. Maybe I can finish that corner I started.
