Throwback Thursday

I really haven’t made a lot of seasonal quilts. I’m just not that into most Christmas fabrics. A few years back, Mr. Wonderful bought me a fat quarter bundle of Christmas fabrics that did not scream Christmas and I used up every little bit in this lap quilt.

This is a Christmas fabric I can love. Aren’t those toiles fabulous?

The pattern is called Colorbrick and there is a tutorial here. Rachel from Stitched in Color kindly provided all the info as a quilt along. It is a fabulous pattern for using fat quarters.

This was one of my very early long arm quilted quilts done back in 2012 on my first machine, a Nolting Hobby Quilter. I tried to come up with a different pattern for each brick.
It looks horrible on the back! But thankfully, the stitching doesn’t show much on the front. It is a great quilt for dragging around. It has been on the winter ground for picture taking and I am fine with that.
It’s just that kind of quilt. And it is fun to look back and see that my quilting HAS improved.

November/December Goals

Time again to see what I have accomplished this last month! Here are the goals I listed at the end of last month:

  1. I want to finish the shirting quilt I started for Baby E. Done and delivered!IMG_1255
  2. I would like to get the pink and green top shown below quilted and finished. Not Done. IMG_0515
  3. Quilt any QOV tops that come in. Ten tops were dropped off at my house last week. So far, I have 6 of them done.
  4. Make new Christmas stockings for Baby L and Baby E. Done! IMG_1547
  5. Get my Brinton Hall Medallion together! The Medallions are all in one piece and I have begun adding the scrappy hexies that will square this off.IMG_5665

What else did I get done this month?

I have also finished my project for the Intrepid Thread Challenge. I have to wait until January to show it to you though.

And I finished this baby quilt.

And this little UFO.

And I finished those curtains!

Here are my goals for December.

  1. Dear Jane…. No, I am not making a Dear Jane quilt this month! But I do have a stack of blocks from the Dear Jane book that I made a number of years ago. Recently I was looking through the Temecula Quilt Company Blog, and was quite enchanted by their summer sampler quilt from last summer. You can see it here. I do not need to start making more blocks of any kind but I thought I could set these Dear Jane blocks into a setting like this. I would like to get this top together this month. IMG_1721
  2. Quilt the last 4 QOV tops that I have here.
  3. Border and quilt a panel that I purchased last summer. IMG_5885
  4. Make one more baby quilt. It seems that there are new babies everywhere you look at church!
  5. And I really do want to get that pink and green one done! It won’t even take that long once I decide how to quilt it.

There is that major holiday coming up as well. So it isn’t a quilting goal but I sure would like to get my shopping done,  my house cleaned, and food prepped for Christmas!

Finally!

I finished the curtains for Baby E!

Daughter #1 wanted one dinosaur added to each corner. They are done, hemmed, and ready to hang!

I got most of what I planned accomplished yesterday. I even got another Quilt of Valor quilted. Here is sneak peek.

I love this pantograph, called Yodel. After quilting this, I got another loaded. We shall see if I get anywhere on this before work.

I can’t believe it is December already. Three more days until I get to meet Baby E!

Have a good one!

Design Wall Monday

Today is a “git ‘er done” kind of day. Christmas is getting close and our newest grand baby even closer! He is scheduled to be born by c-section on Friday! Little E will be staying here while momma is in the hospital. Speaking of Little E, I was thinking of using this panel to make a blanket for him to have here.

I’m pondering this while I work on these curtains today.

They are cut to length. I need to mark, embroider, and hem them.

I have a Christmas project to work on today that cannot be shown here, but time is of the essence.

This weekend, I didn’t sew much at all. But we finished this puzzle!

And my Christmas decorating is done.

First load of laundry sounds like it is done so break time is over for me. Hope you all have a productive day!

Another Small Finsh

I mentioned yesterday finding this small UFO.

When I made the top, I had added backing and batting and turned it pillow case style so there was so need for binding. I pressed it and did a top stitch close to the edge all the way around to close the opening and to provide a “travel” area for the vertical quilting lines.

The quilting is just closely spaced vertical lines, though it is very hard to tell in the picture. The texture is actually quite nice. Here is a photo that I lightened up a lot so the stitching shows.

Our Thanksgiving day brunch was postponed until today because hubby ended up working Thursday morning. So I better go get the ham in.

Have a great Sunday!

Saturday

I stayed away from the stores yesterday. No surprise there, I hate shopping and I hate crowds! I got up and loaded this QOV. I figured I could easily get this one done and another loaded since hubby had to go in to work.

But then a cute little man knocked on my door bearing coffee and donuts!  So, who was I to argue? Or quilt? He was a big helper putting up our tree.

But he prefers working without pants.

I got up this morning and had a bit of time before work. I went down to the sewing room to see what I could do in just a few minutes. I mended a dress for Daughter #3 and came across a UFO that is at least 4 years old. I thought I would see how much quilting I could get done before work.IMG_5092The answer? Not enough to finish it!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Baby Quilt

I finished this baby quilt this week. Sadly, it has been raining nearly non stop since I did! So my indoor pics are not good. Welcome to winter in Michigan!

This was a quick and easy project and yet, very satisfying to complete. The rectangles were cut at 3 1/2″ by 6 1/2″. I have 8 rows of 14 rectangles each.

I used a pantograph called Modern Twist to quilt it.

The backing is a favorite Denyse Schmidt print that I had been hoarding.

I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday.  Daughter #3 and her SO brought these over to me!

We had a lovely meal at Daughter #1’s house. Today, I am staying in my pajamas all day. Glorious!

WIP Wednesday ~ Finally!

I cannot tell you how happy I am to say that my sawtooth star blocks are all done! Here are the last of them.

And the whole lot piled up.

I started these back in November of 2014 and this is still very much a WIP, but progress has been made! And now, they are going back in their plastic box for a bit. This project is too big and overwhelming for me to focus on now. I need smaller projects this time of year where I can see more progress!

I need to squeeze some housework in before the day job so I better get to it!

A Small Finish

Last year, Daughter #1 asked me to make a stocking for Little E to go with the stockings she had purchased for herself and SIL. They were kind of country/primitive and she wanted E’s to be similar in style. I came up with this.

IMG_1410
The tree is embroidered.

So with Baby E due to arrive at the end of next week, I needed to make another. I started last weekend and finished it yesterday.

Not perfect but big enough to hold some yumm treats!

Have a great day!
