Finish It Up Friday ~ Shirt Tails

Last week I showed you the dinosaur quilt that I made for Baby E, today I am showing you the shirting quilt I made for him. I used cast off shirts from his daddy, papa, and uncle in this quilt.
I used the GO! kite die for this.it makes 8 inch blocks.

I love the striped fabric I used in the back. I found it at a Good Will.

You can see here that my pints are not perfect and I had difficulty pressing those corners flat.

These last two pictures were taken before washing. I loved the shadows created by the morning sun.

Have a great weekend!

Trunk Full of Quilts ~ QOV

Soma over at Whims and Fancies  has started a virtual trunk show party called Trunk Full of Quilts.

Online Quilt Trunk Show | Whims And Fancies

It is an opportunity to post about some of your favorite finished quilts and share them virtually in Blogland. You can also find others’ virtual trunk shows here. Soma  has come up with some lovely prizes to be awarded as well. So pull out some of your quilts and create a trunk show of your own!

For my trunk show, I decided to share some of my favorite Quilts of Valor that I have made over the last few years. I have quilted many tops made by others, but the quilts I am showing today were all made by me from first stitch to last. I hope you enjoy them!

???????????????????????????????

I think this next one is my all time favorite due to the quilting. You can’t see it in the overall shot, but I have quilted an eagle into the center of this nine patch quilt.

You can see it better here.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Not much sewing progress around here this week. I did have some questions regarding my stars the other day. The fabric line is Shenandoah by Windham Fabrics. I started  these blocks last winter but got sick  of them and put them away in the spring. As of now, I have 82 blocks done.

And 13 more cut and kitted up.

Um….13…..95 blocks? Pretty sure I was planning to make 96 blocks. Hmmmm…. Anyway I am closer to being done.

I did get started on the curtains. The top casings are done but I am procrastinating for sure.

Have a great day!

Design Wall Monday

I hope you all had a great weekend. I attended a small shower for Daughter #1 on Saturday and presented her with both quilts for Baby E. She loved them! I have already shared the Dino quilt with you and Friday I will show you the finished shirting quilt.

But this is what is on the design wall today.

I also have most of the top done for the Intrepid Thread challenge .

I may add to this. The rules of the challenge allow me to add some of my own fabrics. I’m thinking I will make it into a pillow. Not my usual thing to sew! But as I have been working on this, I have been contemplating its end use. Each year, I am asked to donate to a local quilt show/sale to raise money for Habitat Humanity. I think this would make a great item to donate.

My big project for this week, though, is this:

These are curtains for Baby E’s room. I will be remaking them and adding some appliqué to match the quilt that I made.

I have lots of housework to do today before I can sew. So I best get to it. I hope you all have a productive day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m finally starting to see the other side of this cold. But I haven’t spent much time in the sewing room this week. However, I have gotten some hand sewing done on my Brinton Hall quilt.

I’ve made most of this progress due to the recent discovery of the TV show, Doc Martin. It is a BBC TV series, available on Netflix. I’m not much of a TV watcher but I do like British TV.

It is time for me to start preparing the hexies for the corners. I hope to dig through some scraps for that today.

I received a big envelope of bow tie blocks yesterday from a swap hosted by Barb over at Fun with Barb. Aren’t they lovely?

We woke up to much frost this mornin. The birdbath is now a bird skating rink.

The frost on the grass is so pretty!

Hope you are able to get some slow stitching in today.

Finish It Up Friday – Dinosaurs!

Happy Friday, everyone! The Dinosaur quilt for Ezra is done!

This was a really fun quilt to make and it gave me a chance to use both my embroidery machine and my hand dyed fabrics, neither of which get used as much as they should.

Here is a shot of the back.       I used Angela Walters’ idea of dot to dot quilting in the hour glass blocks and a simple loopy design in the background of the embroidered/appliqued blocks.

Daughter #1 is very happy with it and that makes me happy too!

This and That Thursday

I slept most of the day away yesterday, but it seems to have helped and I am headed back to work today. I do have a few things to show from earlier in the week. While quilting on Monday, I set the embroidery machine to stitch out a few things. I really like this basket of flowers design. I need to some up with an idea to use this now.

I’ve always liked this red work eagle and I think it would look great alternating with a simple 9 patch for a QOV.

And I finally stitched up a few more sawtooth stars. I carried these bits to Wisconsin and back without working on a single one. I got quite a few made in Arizona last February so they are well traveled.

In my day job, I work as a librarian. It is an interesting job and I get to meet such a wide cross section of people. One patron has gotten to be an e-mail pen pal of sorts. She has even loaned books to me! She is sadly losing her sight and I am always on the look out for large print books that she will enjoy. Her husband comes in to pick up books for her so I don’t actually see her often. Tuesday Susanne came in with her husband to see me. She gifted this set of books to me because she can no longer read them.

I feel so honored to have these! But most of all, I am so thankful for her friendship.  I was so glad she came in so I could give her a hug in person.

Time to get ready for work. I hope you have a great day.

Opening a Charm Pack is the Hardest Part….

So it should be easy from here, right?

I’ve been playing with some ideas for the challenge hosted by Julie at Intrepid Thread.

I’ve come down with a cold so not much actual sewing being done. I may rearrange these a few more times. Or I may just go back to the couch.

Have a great day!

Vintage Fabric Finds

Every time I go home and spend time with my sisters, we make a trip to Good Will. We love thrift shopping! Here are some vintage fabrics I found there last week.

I love this border print!

This one looks like it could have been purchased in any online modern quilt shop today!

I love map prints, even if I am not from Illinois!

And this vintage antique shop print was just too fun to leave behind.

This strip will be the perfect backing fabric for the shirting quilt I am making for Baby E.

You just never know what you will find. I am not sure what I will use most of these for yet, but sooner or later, they always get used. The backing fabric for Baby E’s dino quilt came from this same thrift shop a few years ago.

Have you ever bought quilting fabric at a thrift store?
