DWMonday ~ Christmas Quilt

I’ve had these scraps sitting in a box for almost two years.

They were left over from making this quilt for Daughter #1.

There is someone that admired this quilt, and I’d like to surprise her with aChristmas quilt of her own. So I got out this die.

And started chopping.

I set this piece aside for binding.

I also used this die when the scraps were too small for the rectangle die.

I pulled a bit of yardage from my stash to supplement, but I think I’m all set to sew now. That pile on the lower right is all I have left of the scraps.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m making progress on my Dutch Hexies! I got a bit of sewing done while visiting my mom last week. Here is where it is at now.

MCM Dollhouse Chronicles ~ Kitchen

I’ve been working on the kitchen! First up, appliances. I created these from solid blocks of wood. I sawed grooves to look like the edges of the doors. I used buttons for stove burners, and I cut the pull handles out of wood. The knobs on the stove are slices of dowel.

I planned to do a wooden countertop, but I ran across this scrap of vinyl tile that I used on the big house. It made for a perfect marble top instead. The handles are made from beads. I still need to figure out a sink.

It took a bit of math to get the scale right.

I still need to make a dining table to go with the chairs from Shasta, and a sink and then I can accessorize.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Never Enough Time

I started this quilt in January of this year. Lori at Humble Quilts hosted a ten month quilt along making string blocks. That was the push I needed to get started.

I made quilt for my mom out of my dad’s shirts for the first Christmas after he moved to heaven. You can see it here.

Cutting those shirts was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I had help. You can read about that here.

The following February I made quilts for each of my siblings.

Now I’ve used the scraps to make one for me.

This is a picture of my dad arriving in Arizona in February of 2016. I had the best week with him! We did a lot of sightseeing and it was a trip I will never forget. See the shirt he is wearing?

Here are pieces of it in my quilt.

This tiny Willys Jeep bit is not from Dad, but his nickname was Little Willy.

I quilted every half inch. Aesthetically, it might have been better at one inch. But I think I wasn’t ready to be done with it.

I even stretched out the hand stitching on the binding longer than necessary.

There is never enough time.

VA Quilts

My friends, Donna and Pam, pieced these tops for veterans at our local VA hospital. I got to quilt them.

Donna is a veteran and Pam’s husband is as well. Now they are serving others who have served.

My Dutch UFO

This is currently my oldest UFO. I cut my hexies from fabrics I purchased on a visit to Amsterdam in 1999. I think I started this in 1999 or 2000. I finally got this far about five years ago.

But it was long and narrow and I could never figure out how to fix it. Fast forward to January of this year, and I decided to take it all apart and rework it. I got this far and stopped.

I needed a handwork project for a trip and pulled this out last weekend. I’m now at this point.

Progress! I want this finished this year! We shall see how much I get done while visiting my mom this week.

Before and After

Remember the Chisel Star Quilts? You may recall that each were quilted with different batting. I thought it might be fun to show a side by side comparison to see how they changed after washing. This first one was quilted with Pelion Legacy 80/20. The left side is before washing and the right side is after.

And this next one was quilted with Mountain Mist 80/20. Unwashed is on the left and washed is on the right.

I think I mentioned that the Pellon feels beefier to the touch. The Mountain Mist feels thinner. However, they both wash up beautifully. The Mountain Mist drapes a bit better.

I realize this is the science nerd in me coming out! But I do find it interesting.

Dollhouse Chronicles ~ A Very Generous Gift

I recently received an email from reader, Shasta. She asked if I would like some dollhouse furniture that she had collected on travels and such. Of course, I said yes! But I was not prepared for this lovely box. How cute is this?

Even her note was adorable!

And just look what was inside!

Wow! So many beautiful little treasures.

These are exactly what I needed for my mid mod ranch house. I just need to make a table.
