Icelandic Animals

I really enjoyed seeing the animals in Iceland. Sheep are very common and a leading cause of car accidents!

The number of reindeer has decreased in recent years, but we saw a few herds.

The horses are beautiful and everywhere! They are smaller than most horses.

We saw puffins, but not up close.

I think my favorites were the seals.

We actually were able to get quite close. They were so fun to watch! They are quite playful.

This is Morris. He is a border collie that has retired from search and rescue work. He now lives at one of the campgrounds we stayed at. I fell in love and would have brought him home, if I could have!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ The Grad Quilt

I didn’t need to have this quilt finished until July, but I’m glad it is done and ready to go.

Did you guess that I went with the Hypnotic pantograph?

I like the juxtaposition of the straight lines in the blocks and the quilted swirls.

I am also pleased that it looks masculine and modern.

Have a great day!

QOV #19

This lovely QOV was pieced by Nadine from our Stitching Sisters group.

This is the panto I used. I just got this from Urban Elementz and I think it is a new favorite!

Have a great day!

QOV Week

I picked up some QOVs to quilt this week! I love quilting these up. This one was made by Candy for our Stitching Sisters group.

This panto is called Modern Waves 3. I think it works so well on these jelly roll quilts. Getting ready to load the next one!

Have a great day!

DWMonday

I’m back to work on the grad quilt. After I placed the rectangles, I added the strips.

And I’m nearly finished piecing these blocks. I wish I had made the strips narrower, but that’s a lesson for next time.

In case you are interested, I cut the original rectangles 9 inches by 10 inches. The rectangles were cut 2 inches by 10 inches. I cut the Large rectangles into two pieces by making a slice 3 inches from one side and inserting the strip. Easy peasy!

Have a great day!

Thank you!

I want to thank you all for you tips on English Paper Piecing. I grabbed my container for our trip to Daughter #3’s last weekend and gave it another go. I tried the ladder stitch method this time and am much happier with the results.

I forgot to grab different thread before I left, but it’s still an improvement. Here is my first one.

Still a long way to go, but at least I’m headed in the right direction.

Have a great day!

Iceland Part 4

These photos are all from the southern coast of Iceland. Our weather was foggy and cool, but we didn’t let that stop us. It gave the area a surreal beauty.

I loved the black sand beaches! The waves were unbelievably powerful.

This is the remains of a US Navy plane that crash landed on this beach in 1973.

So beautiful! Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Dream Big

I bought this panel from Urban Elementz last summer and finally got up the courage to quilt it. I was afraid of ruining it, which is just silly. It’s just fabric!

I appreciate all the kind comments on the post about this the other day. After finishing it, I can look back with a kinder eye.

I used two layers of 80/20 batting on this. I used a light gray Glide thread for the quilting.

The lavender binding framed it without screaming for attention.

I do wish I had chosen a different backing. It shows ever flaw!

And there are many.

I have another one of these panels to quilt. I love feathers so I may do something very similar. After all, practice makes perfect!

Have a great day!

Tuesday Morning

Yes, I know it’s Thursday! I’m talking about the store, Tuesday Morning. We stopped there after leaving Daughter #3’s house on Sunday. They had quite a few jelly rolls and layer cakes in stock. I really like Carolyn Friedlander’s fabric designs so I was excited to find these.

The price?

Yep, I can work with that. Have a great day!
