Playing with the Quick Curve Ruler

I’ve had this ruler for at least five years. I finally decided it was time to play with it a bit.

Here are my cut pieces. Cutting was easy.

Sewing the curves takes a little practice.

Yikes!

They look better after pressing!

After pressing, you use the ruler again to square up the blocks. Then it’s time to play.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I finished the hand quilting on this last week while visiting my mom.

Finally!

I’m on the hone stretch now with just the hand stitching on the binding to finish.

It’s going slower than expected thanks to my “help.”

Have a great day!

Iceland 5

We’ve been home a month and I already want to go back! This is one of the glaciers we saw. As it moves toward the lake in front, pieces of ice break off and float out to see.

It creates this “diamond ” beach. The ice is gorgeous against the black sand.

These pieces of ice are massive! This one was about three feet high.

The blue color of the ice is amazing.

Along the east side of the country are fjords and many small fishing villages.

We saw plenty of snow in the north!

Another beautiful waterfall just off the main road.

There are many areas of geothermal activity. The colors are amazing. Sadly, that is hard to see here due to the time of day.

Sunset over Lake Mývatn. More to come.

Have a great day!

QOV #20

Here is another top by Stitching Sister, Nadine. I have no pattern info, but I sure do love it!

Here is the pant that I used from Urban Elementz .

I really like this one. It’s pretty quick to stitch out and I love the combination of points and curves.

Have a great day!

Thrift Store Find

While running errands one day last week, I found myself near a thrift shop I hadn’t been to in a while. I spotted this little crib quilt and had to bring it home.

I love that aqua! And these embroideries are so sweet!

Interestingly, the quilting, done in yellow thread, extends into the binding.

Upon closer inspection, it appears that the whole quilted edge was turned to the back for a self binding of sorts. It was machines stitched with the same yellow thread.

I gave it a careful hand wash, which seems rather silly. This quilt has no doubt been used hard and washed often!

My quilt collection is outgrowing my house, but I just couldn’t leave this behind. I imagine a momma or grandma from years past stitching in anticipation of a sweet babe and it pulls at my heart. I have known this anticipation and feel a certain kinship with the maker.

Have a sweet day!

Dear Betty 2.0

After looking at these blacks all last week, I decided to just sew them together.

I was thinking about adding borders, but then I found the perfect backing in my stash. If I didn’t add borders, I could use the backing without piecing it. How’s that for logic?

So it’s on the frame and I’m thinking about quilting designs.

I think sometimes I just have to move forward and finish something to clear my head space for something else.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Remember this? I’m still working on it here and there.

I’m getting close to the end and really want to finish it by the end of the month.

I just have four more white blocks, the half claret blocks next to them, and that narrow border to hand quilt.

You can see the quilting better here.

I need to start thinking about binding. Have a great day!
