Finish It Up Friday ~ Mid Mod Beads

I really work from one extreme to another, don’t I? Last week I finished my vintage claret stars and this week, it’s Mid Mod Beads!

This was an experimental piece trying out my Quick Curve Ruler.

I should have finished with a facing, but I was feeling a bit lazy.

I love the texture of matchstick quilting!

Not sure what I’ll do with this one, but I sure had fun making it!

Have a great day!

No Sew Day

I had to take Winslow to the vet for shots yesterday. Turns out my daughter had the appointment right after mine for Lola, who happens to be Winslow’s littermate and sister.

Here are a couple photos of the hooligans. The first one makes me laugh!

Anyway, Daughter #1 had E1 with her and he ended up coming home with me. He loves riding in the Jeep, especially with the top down!

Having not had his fill, he spent time driving the little Jeep around the backyard.

Then it was time to play with some of Nana’s toys.

A bit of scissor practice.

Playing with felt shapes at the design wall.

And then the silliness began in earnest.

Sometimes my days don’t go at all like I plan, but spending time with this little man is better than sewing.

Have a great day!

Current Projects and Camping

I’ve gotten this far on the I Spy quilt.

I’m also working on a T-shirt quilt with a tight deadline.

I have two more shirts to add, I just have to pick them up from a friend.

Last weekend, Mr. Wonderful and I went off-roading and camping. It was so fun! The campground had these tiny cabins available, so we took one of those instead of setting up our tent.

Winslow did very well, both off road and camping!

She was fascinated by the fish in the pond. 😂

She was less enthusiastic about her bath when we got home! 🤣🤣🤣

Haves great day!

Secret Sewing

I got this box of lovely goodies from Fat Quarter Shop recently. These are for a Fat QuarterShop SewAlong that I am participating in.

Aren’t these luscious? They are from the Cottonworks Woven line by Minick and Simpson.

I’ve not worked with these before, they are basically woven flannel.

I’m not going to lie, they fray easily and aren’t the easiest to work with. But they feel so good and I’m so excited to see this moving along! I can tell already that this quilt will be a favorite.

Have a great day!

I Spy

I finally started working on the I Spy quilt for E1.

All the cutting is done thanks to this die from Accuquilt and my trusty die cutter.

I’ve got three big quilts with deadlines this month so I need to really get moving here, I’ll use these as leaders and enders, but here is a start.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Why is it that it took six months for me to finally finish hand quilting that last quilt, and yet as soon as it was done, I had to start something else?

Diane from O’Quilts gifted this patchwork piece to me. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to handquilt it and put it on my doll bed. Thank you, Diane!

I basted it on my long arm and I am quilting it without hoop or frame. It was so lovely out one recent morning, that I sat in the sun on my doorstep and started the quilting.

I had the quilting all done and decided to add more. I’m loving the hanging diamonds.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Claret Stars

Done!

I have no idea when this vintage top was pieced, but I suspect it was somewhere around the turn of the last century. It took me six months to hand quilt.

It is done and washed. I used Quilter’s Dream Cotton Request batting and plain muslin on the back.

The same blue and white shirting print was used throughout. But two different claret reds were used. Both are shown in the following photo.

The binding is vintage, though it is really too new for the top. It works IMHO.

Now, what can I hand quilt next?

Have a great day!

May String Update

I’ve completed another ten string diamonds for the String Along!

I included labels from my dad’s shirts in some of the blocks.

That little jeep scrap I’ve had for ages. I came across it when I was looking for something else and set it aside. I decided to include it in one of the blocks for a couple reasons. First, it’s my quilt and you know I love Jeeps! And secondly, this military model was produced from 1941-1945 by the Willys Overland Company, originally pronounced Will-iss. Over time, people referred to these Jeeps as Willy’s. My dad’s name was William and most people called him a Bill. However, some people called him Willy.

My mom even embroidered that on his work coveralls. My dad could fix darn near anything, including vehicles. He taught me to change a tire and change the oil in my car. He saw my Jeep, but was to ill to ride in it. I would have loved to go off-roading with him. Anyway, it seemed fitting to me that this special scrap would find a place in this quilt.

Have a great day!
