Missouri Star Quilt Company, Hamilton, Missouri

One of the places we visited while on our trip was Missouri Star Quilt Company. If you have never been there, it is worth the trip! They even have a visitor’s guide so you don’t miss any of the shops!   We actually went twice, once on the way to our destination and once on the way home! This was the daily deal the first time we went.

These FQ bundles came from the Mercantile shop, it is filled with reproduction fabric.

Hubby picked up these layer cake bundles, that man can shop for fabric!   This was the daily deal the second time we stopped.  These came from the Licensed to Sew shop.I am going to try to work some of these into my Brinton Hall quilt.

Loved this bundle of 10 inch squares I found in the main shop.
Here is hubby walking out of the main shop with his purchases. He surprised me with this Missouri Star mug.

And yes, I saw Jenny….sort of!This is the inside of the Penney’s Quilt Shop.
I loved this quilt on the wall there.  These are new murals since we were there last summer.     Everyone is so very friendly there! I hope they have a wonderful daily deal on the day you visit!

Design Wall Monday

I hope you all had a great weekend! Thank you for all of your lovey comments on my Scrappy Lattice quilt that I showed on Friday. You are all so kind and generous with your comments! This is what is on my design wall today:

I have more pieces to make more blocks also.

I would like to finish piecing the rest of the blocks today. But first, I have to finish these:

These are drapes to go on the stage at church. I have 8 panels to make today and 4 already done. Then I can sew my projects. I  have another QOV in the frame and I need to figure out how to quilt it.

Isn’t it beautiful? It was made by one of our talented toppers in the Stitching Sisters QOV group. I have chosen Glide thread in “Sand” to quilt it.

The next step for the Humble Quilts QAL comes out today also. So many projects, so little time!

Our local antique festival was this past weekend. It wasn’t as much fun without Mr. Wonderful. I did find a few more pieces of enamelware.

And this lovely 1930’s quilt block.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Good Morning! Hubby is off on another trip to the other side of the world. I thought I would get lots of sewing done after work yesterday but I didn’t get as far as I had hoped. Some days, it is one step forward and two steps back. Today will be busy as well but I am already looking forward to putting my feet up tonight and working on my Brinton Hall quilt.

I have more hexies basted and ready!

I brought this book home from work yesterday.

It  looks to be a really good one. I  love so many of the quilts in here.  My only beef is that the blocks have very strange sizes. I get that she wanted to mimic the originals, but a block that finishes at 5 1/4 inches?  A sawtooth star that finishes at 7 inches? I am willing to adjust to make life easier on myself!
I am working on QOVs again this week and hope to get another off the frame today and the next one loaded.

Happy Sunday! I hope you get some slow stitching in. See what others are slow stitching today over at Kathy’s Quilts

Hunter Heirloom Quilting, Warrensburg, Missouri

Here’s a look at another quilt shop we visited on our trip. This is a really nice shop combined with an Innova  dealership. The staff here are wonderful. Their prices are reasonable and they have long arm supplies.

I was really glad we took the truck on our trip as I came home with two rolls of batting!

This is Pellon Legacy 80/20 and a roll of Pellon Poly. I just couldn’t pass them up for the price.

I also picked up a few FQs from the clearance bin.

My sweet MIL picked up this lovely fabric  for me along with this charm pack.

This is the second time I have visited this shop while visiting our family. If you are in the area, it is worth the stop.

Happy Saturday!

Finish It Up Friday ~ The Lattice Quilt

I’m so happy to have this one finished! I do love  scrappy quilts!

You may remember that I started this one back in July when I was cleaning up my Denyse Schmidt scraps.

IMG_3649
I wanted to custom quilt this one but I didn’t want something as labor intensive as the Little Sister quilt. Some easy feathers in the white space seemed to fit the bill.

Looking at these pictures in the sunshine, I can see that I used more than one brand of white fabric in the white triangles. That happens when you use scraps. I quilted the ribbon candy design in the scrappy areas. Good thing these are busy bits because I clearly need a lot of practice with this design.  This was my first time using it.

I went with a solid white backing.

Looks like some of those flower petals got a bit squished too!

I used Glide thread and Pellon Legacy 80/20 batting. These pictures were taken before washing. I will post comparison pictures at a later date. I don’t feel like washing this one just yet.

Throwback Thursday

A friend of mine recently let me know about a toy sewing machine I might be interested in that would be for sale. Another friend hand carried it to me. And here it is!

Isn’t it beautiful?

Thanks, Terri! I just love it! And I’ll think of you and Lynn every time I look at it!

BTW, that pink quilt top was purchased at a local antique fair a few years ago. I am generally not a pink girl, but I do love old double pink fabrics. In fact, here is a pink and brown quilt I made about ten years ago.

I quilted this on the Bernina 155 that I had at the time. I had purchased it used with money I had earned working tax season that year. I had always heard how great these were for free motion quilting. This was the first (only?) quilt that I free motion quilted on it. Frankly, it wasn’t any better than my 1955 Singer 201 for free motion work. I did use that machine for straight line quilting until I bought an older Bernina, my 1030. The 155 ended up doing closet time until I sold it last year. More expensive machines are not necessarily better.

Unless you are talking about my long arm. Worth every single penny.

Work in Progress Wednesday

I finally came up with a plan for Sister Quilt 2.

I played around on EQ7 until I had this.

That white space is where the tree will go. This is turning out to be quite busy and the tree gives a resting place for the eye.

After making some blocks,  I started putting them up on the wall.

Not loving it at this point. The lights are too busy even after editing some out. I decided to keep going and see how the tree would look after the panel was trimmed.

Oh, that’s better! Decided to add borders to the tree to further set it apart.

Ok, I might be able to live with this. Not sure how big this will finish yet. I have more blocks to make, likely a good sized couch quilt.

Country Roads QAL and Hickory Stick in Hannibal, Missouri

Part 1 of the Country Roads QAL hosted by Humble Quilts was posted yesterday. In between errands and waiting for a package delivery, I managed to get that part done.

One of my strip sets was too short and another too long. So one of my 4 patches ended up like this.

Hubby and I spent a few hours in Hannibal, Missouri on the way home from visiting family.  It is a delightful little town and is quite proud to be the home of Mark Twain. On the far left side of this picture, is the Hickory Stick Quilt Shop.

It is a lovely shop and much bigger than it appears from the outside. I hit the clearance section and came away with some bargains!

I also found this fun shopping bag with newspaper “articles” about quilters.

Here is hubby painting the fence in front of Mark Twain’s home.

The town has lots of antique shops. It was a fun place to stop and take a break.

Design Wall Monday

Good Morning! I think I am finally recovered from traveling. I still have some laundry to do today. Hubby leaves tomorrow on another business trip. I don’t think I will do any redecorating this time!

One of my goals for this month was to design and cut out a quilt for my younger sister. I plan to use these fabrics.

They came with this panel.

The line is by Deb Strain for Moda and it is called Family Tree. I may put the tree on the back and I don’t plan to appliqué the birds on the branches as intended. Conveniently, this FQ bundle is about evenly split between lights and darks. I want a pattern that does not require borders and I would like to use up all of this bundle if possible. I’m considering a Jewel Box or Double 4 Patch pattern. But a tumbler would be good or maybe bricks…. If there is one thing that slows down my quilt making, it is making decisions!

Lori at Humble Quilts is starting another Quilt Along! I always enjoy these. She posted fabric requirements last week. I have mine ready to go. I think the first step will be posted today.

I only need one gold/cheddar but I haven’t yet decided which to go with. I pulled these from my tub of Civil War scraps.

To give you an idea of scale, this tub is big enough to bathe a very cute baby in!

I finished my bow tie blocks for the swap hosted by Fun with Barb and will get them in the mail today.

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Quilts at the Marshall House

I got quite a bit done on my Brinton Hall quilt while traveling. EPP sure takes a long time! I started working on the path and hope to get the first two medallions attached today.

On our trip, we visited several quilt shops. The last one on our way home was Quilts at the Marshall House in Marshall, Michigan.

I picked up another package of needles that had been recommended, a single FQ, and some cut paper pieces for more EPP!

It will be a while before I get to these but I think EPP is a good trip project.
