Before and After

Remember the Chisel Star Quilts? You may recall that each were quilted with different batting. I thought it might be fun to show a side by side comparison to see how they changed after washing. This first one was quilted with Pelion Legacy 80/20. The left side is before washing and the right side is after.

And this next one was quilted with Mountain Mist 80/20. Unwashed is on the left and washed is on the right.

I think I mentioned that the Pellon feels beefier to the touch. The Mountain Mist feels thinner. However, they both wash up beautifully. The Mountain Mist drapes a bit better.

I realize this is the science nerd in me coming out! But I do find it interesting.

Have a great day!

Veteran’s Day 2019

Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who have served, especially my beautiful Daughter #2.

I have no words to adequately express my thanks to those who have served.

Dollhouse Chronicles ~ A Very Generous Gift

I recently received an email from reader, Shasta. She asked if I would like some dollhouse furniture that she had collected on travels and such. Of course, I said yes! But I was not prepared for this lovely box. How cute is this?

Even her note was adorable!

And just look what was inside!

Wow! So many beautiful little treasures.

These are exactly what I needed for my mid mod ranch house. I just need to make a table.

I have met the sweetest, kindest, most generous people through my blog. Thank you again, Shasta! BTW, Shasta blogs at High Road Quilter. Go visit and see her lovely quilts!

Have a great day!

Finished or Not Friday

In this case that would be a big NOT! I started quilting this on Wednesday.

I kept debating on the quilting and thought I had a great idea. I would quilt a diagonal grid, and then put a wavy grid in between.

Yuck. I hated it. I thought then that maybe it just needed more. Nope. This led to hours of unquilting.

And finally requilting.

But it still felt lacking. So once again, I’m adding more quilting.

Better. But there is no finish today. Such is life. Have a good one!

Vintage Hourglass Update

I know, you’ve seen this before. But since then, I washed it. It crinkled nicely, and it also bled profusely.

You can really see the bleeding on the back. I washed it again with color catchers and a bit more Dawn dishwashing liquid.

The top is much brighter. The back still shows bleeding, but it’s better.

Am I bothered? Not at all! This is just part of working with vintage textiles. I love it just as much. I just thought you’d be interested.

Have a great day!

More Progress!

I set aside a good chunk of the day yesterday and was able to finish sewing my string top together! Woo hoo!

I have many points that don’t match well. Probably due in part to the thick string pieced blocks combined with a thin solid. I’d like to use this flannel for the back, but I’ll have to do some creative piecing if I am to make it stretch far enough.

No progress on hexie borders. Decisions can take longer than the actual piecing sometimes!

Have a great day!

Hexie Progress

I finished all the applique! Then I trimmed my blocks and set them together.

Time to choose a border.

I’m not sure I like any of these. I hope I find something soon. I really wanted to finish it this week. Have a great day M

DWMonday ~ Strings

I finally finished my string blocks!

I made a total of 70. They will be set like those shown above, but 10 blocks wide and 7 blocks down. This should give me a quilt measuring about 60 by 70 inches.

I’ve started picking the diagonal rows together.

Someone asked last week how Winslow and Willy are getting along. This picture sums up their relationship. Willy is getting the snuggles he loves, and Winslow is doing it by sitting on him.

Haha! They play hard and seem to love each other, but Winslow doesn’t let him forget who was here first!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching and Other Things

I’ve managed to get a few flowers applique this week.

I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but my grandkids participate so that means I am too. The boys helped me carve my pumpkin. No scary stuff here!

Daughter #1 and her family came over for souping some trick or treating in our neighborhood. I dressed my fur kids up.

Willy didn’t mind the baby shark outfit, he just didn’t want to do pictures!

The three Es dressed as superheroes.

The weather was awful and they were happy to co back to Nana’s after a few houses. They helped me pass out candy. E2 told everyone that came to the door that they looked nice, have fun, and Happy Halloween. It was so precious! He always wants to make sure everyone is having as much fun as he is.

Here are my Arizona boys.

Here’s my frozen hotdog running maniacally through the first Snowfall!

I’m so not ready for fall to end!

Have a great day!
