WIP Wednesday

I feel like I am finally getting back into the groove sewing wise after our trip. I finished off Spider Man (sounds ominous!). I will show him to you on Friday. I need to get him shipped off today.

I got these leftover blocks sewn together and the border added.

Then I noticed this:

I hate when that happens! But I am leaving it. This currently measures 52 inches square. I am playing with an ipad app called Adobe Ideas to help me decide how to quilt it.

You are basically drawing with your finger tip with this app. And clearly, I am not good a that! But it does help to visualize the quilting.

Spider Man

First of all, thank you all so much for your needle suggestions! I will be needle shopping the first chance I get. Maybe I hated EPP before because I wasn’t using the right needle!

Little E took a great nap yesterday and I was able to get Spider Man loaded and half the quilting done.

See that gray in the stitching lines? Um, yeah. Not supposed to be there. That is the furry back coming up through the stitching holes. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. The backing is plenty thick and furry and I used a low loft poly batt. Cotton batting might have helped prevent the fur coming through. This furry stuff has plenty of stretch to it which adds another element of difficulty.

Sigh….apparently this was not one of my better ideas. I have to remind myself that this is going to an 18 month old and I want him to drag it around and wear it out. But it still bugs me when things don’t turn out as I would like them to.

I will get this finished this week and a pillow case to go with. Maybe washing will help. Spider-Man, behave or I will drop you in the washer!

DWMonday

I hope you all had a great weekend. We sure did. Hubby is home from his business trip and we spent a lot of time with Daughter #1 and family and Daughter #2. I finished the rest of my lattice blocks and they are up on the design wall now.

2015/08/img_3705.jpg
I also have the last four leftover blocks from the sister quilt up.

2015/08/img_3707.jpg
I would like to put these together and add a border to make a baby quilt. I want to really play with my long arm templates and do some custom quilting on this.

But this is the project I would like to start today if I have time. I purchased this panel for big brother Liam when I was out in Arizona.

He loved little brother Lincoln’s quilt with the soft minky type backing. So I bought this throw to use as the backing. It was much cheaper than buying yardage at the fabric store.

I will use a low loft poly batting and see how it goes. I am thinking I will free hand spider webs in the background. I hope he likes it as much as he liked little brother’s quilt!

We shall see if I actually get anything done today with my helper:

If he takes a good nap, I might get Spider Man loaded on the frame!

Slow Stitching Sunday

It has been a crazy, busy week around here! I am so ready for some slow stitching.

2015/08/img_3693.jpg
I finished appliquéing the hexie ring around this one background piece. I am hoping to get the next ring together today. Not a huge goal but I am really slow at this! I read somewhere that milliner’s needles were good for sewing the hexies together. I went to buy some yesterday and was shocked at how long they were! I usually use Betweens for everything. But if I can find a needle that will make this easier, I’m all for it. I came home with these.

Better than the Betweens but I’m not sold on them yet. Any suggestions?

July Finishes and August Goals

Another month has flown by! It goes even faster when you spend a good chunk of it out of town. Totally worth it though!

Here are my goals for July:

1. Top of the list is to quilt and bind the first sister quilt. DONE and delivered!

IMG_3527

2. Since little Lincoln is here, I am going to make a label for his baby quilt. I made this last fall out of shirts worn by my son, my hubby, and my dad. DONE and delivered!

IMG_0947

3. I would also like to get the 16 patch quilt finished for the guest room. DONE!

IMG_3679
4. I would like to decide on a pattern for the second sister quilt. Not done. Not even an idea as of yet.

5. I would like to make a small quilt out of my leader ender HSTs. DONE!

FullSizeRender (1)

6. I want to decide on my next leader/ender project. Not done. I am not sure why it is so hard to decide on something this simple! I am guessing it is because I want to come up with a bigger project this time.

Now, what else did I accomplish?

I finished this second quilt for Lincoln.

And I started two new projects, my EPP  project:

IMG_3322 And my scrappy lattice blocks:

IMG_3668

Time to plan for August.

1. I want to finish my scrappy lattice blocks and perhaps get them into a finished top.

2. Since my little Liam liked brother’s quilt so well, I plan to make him a quick quilt with a soft backing.

3. I am again going to try to come up with a plan  for Sister Quilt #2.

4. Still want to come up with a good leader/ender project.

I feel like I haven’t had enough time in the sewing room lately to even decide what I truly want to work on next so these goals don’t seem like much to me.  I hope to remedy that in the next week. But hubby came home from his business trip last night so it won’t happen today! Have a great weekend!

I used a pantograph called Featherize on this. It is available rom Digi-Tec. I used Glide thread and Hobbs 80/20 batting. It measures 92 by 108 inches before washing. It all started when Daughter #1 bought this jelly roll for me.

It is Amy Butler’s Hapi line. And it made me very happy.  Linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Crazy Mom Quilts, Richard and Tanya Quilts, Quilt Shop Gal, Prairie Sewn Studios, Quilt Story

More Lattice Blocks

After work yesterday, I worked on some more lattice blocks.

It was so nice to sit and sew! I tried a couple different layouts.

I definitely prefer the first. So far, I have 36 of 80 blocks pieced.

Daughters #1 and #3 will be ofer after work this afternoon for some crafty fun. Not sure just yet what we will get up to but I am very much looking forward to it!

I have a really big finish to share with you tomorrow if I can get pictures taken today. Maybe I can con the daughters into helping!

Give Away Winner

I would like to thank all of you that left suggestions regarding which books you would like to find in you library. Some I had already ordered and some are on my short list! The give away winner was chosen by a random number generator.

Congrats to Jennifer C who will soon be receiving this mug rug!

WIP Wednesday

Yesterday was a busy day but I got a lot of work done so I could play today. But  I woke up so tired that I haven’t gotten much done and I need to get ready for work soon! The first project I want to work on now that I am back home are these lattice blocks:IMG_3486

I have gotten all the rest of the blue and red corner pieces cut this morning.IMG_3649

I got enough of the strippy bits done before I left to make 80 blocks. I hope to get the white triangles cut yet this morning before I go in to work at noon. Then tonight, I can start sewing more blocks together.

I also folded my new fabric purchases.

IMG_3647I have plans for most of this already!

Art of Cloth

Hubby and I got in late last night and were up and on the way back to the airport by 4:30 this morning. Poor guy has a business trip to Mexico. I’m back home but even after only 3 hours of sleep, I’m wide awake. I’ll need lots of coffee to make it through this work day which ends at 9 tonight!

When we got to our terminal at Sky Harbor Airport, I found they had a small quit exhibition there!

I was so glad we got there early enough to see it and I thought you would enjoy it too. Each quilt is followed by the artist info.

There were a few more but these I liked best. Hope you enjoy these as well.

It was awfully hard to leave my kids yesterday but we made some wonderful memories! Thanks for continuing to visit even with my lack of responding to comments. I’m sure hoping tomorrow that I can get back to the sewing room.
