Folding Fabric

I took a break from scraps and decided to tackle yardage. I fold the fabric selvedge to selvedge and then wind it around my big ruler like this.

I found this in my vintage stash!

Here are a couple stacks of my vintage yardage.

I took the time to measure and label every single piece!

My future self will thank me! Now that I know what I have, I will be more likely to use it. I cleaned out some of my tall cabinets to store this yardage.

Looks like I will be working on my organization project all week. Bear with me!

Have a great day!

More Scrap Management

I’m still working through scraps. I will be at this for some time. I tackled my 30s reproduction scraps. When I do this, I go through the bin, ironing each piece. I sort into piles by size like this.

My smallest scraps could be cut to 2 inch squares. Since I don’t have a ton of these, I decided to cut them all up into 2 inch squares using this die.

I also had scraps of 30s solids that I cut into 2 inch squares as well. I’ve decided to make four patches from these. I will need to cut more solids, but this will get me started.

I also decided to tackle this bin of binding scraps and another just like it.

I ironed each piece and thought I would make one bin of strings/strips. My OCD wouldn’t allow me to put them all together. So my two bins ended up being three bins, Civil War, brights, and neutrals. I have two more huge containers of leftover binding strips to go through.

I put my random fat quarters into these bins. Of course, I remembered I have a whole other basket full somewhere else.

I still need to deal with this. That is a vintage baby bath tub full of Civil War Scaps!

And I have these two big buckets.

I have a very long way to go. But it sure will be nice when I am done!

Have a great day!

Slow Unstitching?

I’ve been working on cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room. It is a huge job. In the process, I came across this small top that I had started hand quilting a few years ago. I never got very far. I remembered feeling very frustrated with this. Looks like I was trying to hand quilt through a batting with scrim.

So I have taken it apart and I’m back to this. I hope to get it basted again today with some different batting and then I’ll start over on the quilting.

But first, I’ll be finishing the binding on this.

Hope you enjoy some slow stitching today!

Jeeping and Quilting

That sums up my last weekend. Mr. Wonderful and I decided to take off and see where the road lead. I did let him drive Oscar the Jeep. But if I’m honest, it was only so I could work on my hand quilting. And I am happy to say that I got it done! Time to pick out binding.

We stopped at a small antique place and I found this top. I thought it would be neat quilted with a crosshatch. But I ended up leaving it. I thought I would get bored and abandon it.

We hit some trails. But the mister had to move over so I could drive then!

The trail we took on Saturday was pretty tame. But we saw some wildlife.

It was gorgeous out in the woods and such a perfect day!

Mr. Wonderful himself!

I love this silly Jeep more than anyone should!

We tried out a more challenging trail the next day. Thankfully, I didn’t need this info!

This didn’t seem like that much mud, until we got home and I started washing it down!

I promise this won’t turn into a Jeep blog! Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ 30s Ohio Stars

I finished this one at the last second! It was too dark for photos outside when I finished the binding.

Here is a look at my allover freehand feathers.

And a look at the back.

I will update this post with better pictures later this morning.

Have a great day!

ETA: I’ll have to do outdoor pics another day. But here are a few that show the quilting a little better in the morning light.

Scrap Management

I started working on a long overdue cleanup in the sewing room. I had to evict the dust bunnies. They were nearly as big as my dog! So I took the room section  by section, cleared the area, mopped the floor, waited for it to dry, put furniture back and moved on to the next area. It took most of the day. But it feels good knowing every bit of furniture has been thoroughly dusted and cleaned under.

I have had quite a few plastic bins stacked under my ironing table and I decided I needed to tackle these as well. I started with a bin of batik scraps. I ironed them all and pulled out a few dies to use.

I started with the rectangle die and just kept going. I never did use the others.

I threw out little bits like this:

Those strings are less than an inch wide. I have no idea why I saved them in the first place! When I was all done cutting the scraps, I remembered some batik fat quarters I had and chopped those up too. This is what I ended up with.

And now, these are all the batik scraps I have left.

I’m putting this in with other bright scraps. I’m going to tackle my bin of reproduction 30s fabrics next.

Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ 30s Stars

Remember this top?

I pieced it out in Arizona. I had planned to add borders, but then changed my mind. I put it on the frame and it languished there for several days. I wanted to quilt all over free hand feathers and practiced a bit on my whiteboard.

I turned the overhead lights off to take these pictures.

It isn’t exactly what I had in mind, but I don’t hate it either.

I took inspiration from this pantograph.

It is going fairly quickly and I’ve learned something, so there’s that.

Have a great day!

Vintage Quilts Part 3

I love looking at old quilts for inspiration! I hope you do as well. Here are some more shots taken on our recent travels.

I both loved and hated this next one. The top itself was very old and beautifully pieced, but someone had finished it fairly recently. By fairly recently, I mean since poofy poly batting became available. Ugh.

This ruffle on the edge made things even worse. If I owned this, I’d take it apart.

These 9 patches were only about 4 inches. I loved this quilt.

And what is not to love about the Baptist Fans on that log cabin?

The hexies on this GFG were only one inch from side to side.

Several of these are quilts I would like to recreate at some point.  My bucket list just keeps growing!

DWMonday ~ Log Cabins…..Again!

I still haven’t decided on a layout for these blocks! I have played with them a bit more though.

Sometimes, these decisions are just too hard. Sigh.

Have a good one.

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Vintage Stars

Are you sick of this yet? I’m getting close to the end! Just 5 more blocks to quilt.

And yes, I’m already trying to decide what I will hand quilt next!

Hope you enjoy some slow stitching today.
