Vintage Quilts Part 2

I saw so many interesting quilts while we were traveling, that I ended up splitting my pictures into 4 posts! I love vintage quilts. I don’t feel a need to buy them all, bug I do enjoy taking pictures for future reference.

I want to make one like this some day! I love, love, love that border!

The next two puctures are the same quilt. Love the madder prints.

This top came close to coming home with me!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Let There Be Light

It seems like ages since I’ve had a finish to share. And I’m quite pleased with it as well.

I still wish I could move some of those tumblers around, but that ain’t happening.

I used a 60 wt Glide thread to quilt this and it blended quite well overall.

Here are a few details of the quilting.

The backing is from a fitted sheet I had on hand. The binding is from the same piece.

I decided to call this, Let There Be Light because when God spoke those words, not only was light created, but color as well.

Have a wonderful, colorful weekend!

Hospice Quilts

When my dad was in hospice care, he was presented with this quilt.

It is beautiful! And I found it to be such a clever use of leftovers.

Little E liked it too!

The black really unifies all of these random bits and castoff blocks.

Even the floral backing could not prevent it from looking quite masculine. There wasn’t any label, I wish there had been so that I could thank whoever was responsble for this. He used it a lot and now my mom is taking comfort from it as well.

I sent a quilt to my dad as well. It was one of my favorites that I have ever made. He was using it when he went to Jesus, and now it is back home with me.

I brought home two bags of shirts, one from my dad and one from Mr. Wonderful’s dad. Someday I will make them into quilts , but not just yet.

Have a wonderful day.

Tumbler Progress

I mentioned yesterday that I had made progress on this top. I put it in the frame so I couldn’t do anything else until it was done.

I wanted to start quilting in the middle, so I basted the edges and horizontal lines across the top.

These basting lines are done at 4 stitches per inch and this allows me to roll the quilt back and forth on the frame without any shifting.

I did a little sketching first.

I even drew some basic starting shapes on the top with a disappearing marker.

But as usual, I mostly ignored my markings.

I finished the handstitching of the binding during our travels. Come back on Friday to see the finish.

Have a great day!

June/July Goals

The month is close to half over. Better late than never, right? Here’s a look back at my June goals.

1. I would like to finish the vintage Daisy quilt. Not Done. I did get the blocks together, but I haven’t added borders yet.

2. I want to quilt up this tumbler quilt. Not done in June, but progress has been made in July!

3. I want to finish this Granny Square top. No progress.

4. I want to decide on the quilting design and get this top basted for hand quilting.

This didn’t get done either. But I purchased another vintage top at an antique fair and I am over halfway done with  the hand quilting of this.

What else did I get done?

I quilted 6 QOVs.

And I made a baby quilt.

My goals for July are:

1. Finish the vintage star quilt.

2. Finish the Vintage Daisy top.

3. Finish the solid tumbler quilt.

In other words, pretty much the same list as last month!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Log Cabins

We are finally home! It feels wonderful.

I went home for a few days before my dad’s memorial service. I did a little sewing and managed to finish the log cabins I worked on in the hotel.

Now to decide how to set them.

No idea what to do.

Have a great day.

Vintage Quilts

Mr. Wonderful and I have traveled far and wide this past week. First to Wisconsin for my dad’s memorial service and then to Missouri for his dad’s service. Both were beautiful, happy, sad times. It is easier knowing they are both free of pain and dancing with Jesus, but they will be greatly  missed.

We stopped at a couple antique malls when we needed driving breaks. Of course, I looked for quilty stuff. None of these things followed me home, but it’s always fun to look!

This next top was out of my budget, though it was tempting!

This quilt made from souvenir hankies was pretty cool.

I always enjoy finding doll quilts too.

We are still on the road and expect to be home tonight. Thank you again for all the kind words and comments. Your prayers have made this difficult time easier by far.

I hope you all have a peaceful day.

My Sweet Father in Law….

Mr. Wonderful’s dad has entered into the presence of Jesus, just 48 hours after my own father.

5/25/1930 – 7/1/2017

This is my favorite photo of my sweet in laws. I love these two with all of my heart.

Thank you all for your sweet comments and prayers regarding the loss of my dad. I’m sorry for not responding individually. I will be taking this next week off from blogging.

Never miss an opportunity to say “I love you.”
