Finish It Up Friday

I hated not having a finish last week but I have a big one this week. My 1930’s Vintage Carpenter Wheel top is now quilted and bound and gracing my own bed! Here are a few gazillion pics.

I really tried to save the diamond border but it was just not working. I bound it using the same muslin that I used on the back and it matched the front quite well. It fits my bed really well!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you have lots of Quilty finishes this week.

WIP Wednesday

I mentioned yesterday that I was starting something new. Daughter #1 saw the IKEA Postcard Quilt by Jeliquilts on Instagram and loved it. You can see her blog post here. So I went on a bit of a search for the appropriate fabrics to make something similar for her. It won’t be the same. I love her quilt but this will be smaller and I am not using the same fabrics or arrangement. She does offer the free pattern on Craftsy here.

These were cut from this layer cake that I got from Missouri Star Quilt Company.

i used this die to cut my 3″ finished triangles.

And then the fun began.

This is definitely not a final arrangement, just a start to get them up on the wall. I am cutting a few solid scraps to add in here and there as well.

So that is my new WIP. Linking up with Lee at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday and Sew Fresh Quilts for Let’s Bee Sewcial.

Scrappy Tuesday

I finished 4 Goose in the Pond blocks last night before I was stopped for lack of pieces.

All the HSTs are done. But you see my 9 patch and rail fence piles are lacking.

Still waiting on the background fabric. In the mean time, I have started something new. I will share that tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday

I didn’t get my Goose in the Pond blocks done this weekend. I am still waiting on the fabric I purchased. I did have a little fun this morning playing with the HSTs on my design wall though.

But I did get something done. See anything missing here?

I am so happy to report that I finished my Carpenter Star quilt this weekend. I hope to get some good pictures this week so I can share it in Friday. Here is a sneak peek that I took as the morning sun was coming in my bedroom window.

And I will leave you with this picture of the lovely roses that Mr. Wonderful bought for me in the enamel coffee pot that Daughter #1 gave me.

Slow Stitching Sunday

I spent a lot of time yesterday responding via email to recent comments. Then I found that most of them came back as undeliverable! So if you asked me a question and didn’t get an answer, please ask again.

Yesterday, I did a little quilting before work and nothing after. I think it was my first chance to do nothing since my trip and that is what I did. I wrapped up in quilts by the fire and read a book. All day.

Today, I will continue my lazy streak by slow stitching while watching Downton.

If I get real ambitious, I may quilt another row of this.

I decided to just quilt a grid in the background. The rest of the quilting is done so I just have to go back and finish the grid/ruler work.

I had to share with you this lovely tea towel Daughter #3 found for me while thrifting.

Isn’t it awesome? I have been collecting vintage tea towels for a while. Not sure why or what I will do with them. But I love them.

Remember Friday I was watching my little man? Well I reached into the diaper bag and pulled out this!

A layer cake of Denyse Schmidt’s Hadley line! Daughter #1 knows I love Denyse Schmidts’s fabrics. She is so thoughtful.

Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday!

This and That Friday

Not a single finish this week. But it was still a good week. Yesterday, Daughter #1 came over and brought my birthday gift.

How fun is that? The fabrics are heather Bailey’s True Colors and Up Parasol.they go beautifully together and will likely end up in the same quilt.

I made a bit of progress on the Goose in the Pond blocks but I probably won’t finish them this week as planned.

Today is my day off and I will enjoy watching another lovely birthday gift from Daughter #3:

I will also be watching this little mister.

I hope to finish my HSTs during nap time. Happy Friday, everyone!

Still piecing….

I got started piecing sub units for my Goose in the Pond blocks.

This gives you an idea of how they will look finished.

I am not sure I have enough of the background fabric to make all the 9 patches that I will need. Luckily, I found a one yard piece on eBay! I hope it gets here on time for me to finish these before the next guild meeting. I have plenty of HSTs to piece in the mean time. So much for making these all from my stash!

Kathy asked if I cut my pieces using my die cutter. I did. I used three dies: the 3″ finished HST, the 3″ finished square, and my 1″ finished (1 1/2″ cut) strip die for the 9 patches and rail fence blocks. After piecing my strips for the 9 patches, I sub cut by laying my pieced strips with seams perpendicular to the blades and run them through the die cutter again. It is so fast and very accurate this way.

Home

I made it home last night around 11. As expected, it is still cold here with plenty of the white stuff coming down! I’ve unpacked and am nearly finished with laundry. It was nice to come home with a quilt on the frame so I could pick up where I left off.

I am doing all the continuous curve quilting and borders first. Then I will have to go back and do the background. Still have yo score what to put there.

I also got one sawtooth star block finished.

And I started pulling fabrics for my Goose in the Pond swap blocks.

My goals for this week are to finish the CC and border quilting in the 30s top and get the swap blocks done. I also head back to the day job today.

Design Wall Monday

Today is a travel day for me……sigh…. I hate goodbyes.  But this blog is about quilts so here is where I show you what I accomplished this past week.

I also hemmed three pair of curtains and helped Daughter #2 make this pillow cover.

She did a great job, as I knew she would. I left my tan Featherweight at her house so she has a machine to use and I can use it when I am out there. I plan to go back this summer after #1 Son and DIL welcome their newest, a little brother for Baby L.  I had so much fun with my kds this week!
