More Adventures in AZ

My sister has flown home after a lovely visit, a once in a lifetime visit, really. Here are a few more pics of our time together.

First pictures of our day hiking at the White Tank Mountains.

And pics from our Super Hero Fun Run.

Pretty much everyone dressed up. We spotted Captain Underpants there….

I loved the bounce house for the kids.

We all got fun capes to wear!

Both of these fun days were overcast and rained a little, but it didn’t dampen our fun!

Have a great day!

TBThursday ~ Quilts from Denyse Schmidt Fabrics

I love most fabrics, but one designer is a true favorite of mine. And it shows in the number of quilts I have made from her fabric lines! Denyse Schmidt comes up with some of the very best quirky/retro/modern fabrics of anyone out there. And all of her lines play nicely together. Here are some of the quilts I have made from DS fabrics over the last few years.

And here are some of my more recent WIPs from the same group of fabrics.

Do you have any favorite designers? Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ HSTs

I started piecing my HST units together.

I’m making four large blocks and will piece those together and add a border when I get home to Michigan. I took my sister to the airport very early this morning so a bit of piecing, some housework, and a nap are on the agenda for today!
Have a good one!

A Tiny Project

Remember the scrapsof Blueberry Park I had leftover after my mini Dresden Fan Quilt?

I decided they would make a nice little mug rug. As a reminder. I cut my scrapsnto 2 1/4 inch strips and then used this ruler to cut the tumbler shapes.

Lining up like this means no seams to match.

I quilted this with simple horizontal lines.

And I trimmed the backing to just a half inch larger all around , folded it under twice and top stitched it down for a tiny mock binding.

Time for a cup of joe and some biscuits!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ More HST Options

I’m still playing with layout options for my HSTs. I decided to use a layout app for Instagram. It allows you to make simple collages of photos. For example, I put this up on my design wall and took a photo.

Then I opened it in the app and placed it in a layout that had four equal places for pictures. I put the same pic in each square to get this:

It gives you an idea of how your design would look with more blocks, without having to lay out a gazillion more on the design wall.

Here is another  example:

And one more.

Pretty cool, huh?

Have a great day!

Beautiful Arizona!

I’ve been having a great time with my sister this week! On Tuesday, we headed up to the Grand Canyon. It was so neat to see it at this time of year! I’m always amazed at the beautiful world God created for us! We saw snow as we drove through Flagstaff!

Tuesday evening, we drove to Sedona and spent most of the day exploring there.

I will share more of our adventures another time. Thank you for all your lovely comments on my Doe Quilt top and my Wrap Up posts for 2016. It was a great quilty year!

Have a wonderful day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Doe Rectangles

I started this top a few weeks back and had it nearly done when I realized that it wasn’t going to be nearly as big as I wanted. This will be a graduation quilt for a tall young man.

Then I got my Christmas gift from Daughter #1 and #3. Included was another charm pack of this same fabric! That was enough to make the quilt the size that I wanted it to be. They sure know me well!

I cut each square from the charm packs in half to yield rectangles measuring 2.5 by 5 inches before sewing. I cut an equal number of rectangles from a gray Kona solid.

I skipped the design wall for this top. I dumped all the pieces in a basket and just grabbed a piece and  sewed. I love the random layout that resulted.

Those orange and turquoise bits sure pop!

This line is called Doe by Carolyn Friedlander. It is perfect for a guy quilt.

Looking forward to quilting this one up! Have a great day!

Here is my last wrap up post for 2016 (I think!). This post includes everything smaller than a bed quilt and bigger than a small quilt. How’s that for exact? Ha!
