French General Granny Squares

I had absolutely nothing on the design wall, so I pulled these blocks out.

I found the perfect border fabric while shopping with Zenia last summer.

I have the sashing strips cut and keeping everything together in this tote meant I could actually find it all!

Time to decide on corner stones.

Have a great day!

UFO Parade 2018

It has been two years since I last compiled a list of my UFOs. While this list is plenty long, I was surprised to find that it wasn’t much longer! Taking a look at these projects seemed a good way to start the new year.

1. This is one row from the Row by Row patterns available last summer. By it self, it makes for an awkward size and not knowing what to do has kept me from finishing it. I hope to find a solution this year.

2. I started these blocks over a year ago. I love them and need to get back to them.

3. Here is another long term project, but I hope to really and truly finish this one by the end of the month. ETA: Finished it just before the new year! Will share soon.

4. I finished this set of leader/ender blocks last month. Time to get them into a quilt.

5. I love this set of blocks! I have the border fabric and sashing ready to go.

6. I would love to get this top handquilted this year.

7. My Denyse Schmidt coffin top is still not done.

8. My Broken Dishes top from a swap with Fun with Barb.

9. My 36 patch top.

10. My 4 patch diamonds

11. I think this handpieced hexie top has been on the list for at least 7 years!

12. I’ve known how I wanted to quilt a top made from these black cos ever since I got them. Time to get them into a top!

13. Another VERY long standing UFO.

I wouldn’t be surprised if I found more UFOs hidden here and there.

Happy New Year!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Vintage Daisies

I finished quilting this top one day last week and I’ve started work on the binding.

When my great Aunt Celia passed away at the age of 99, I got some of her fabric stash. In it was this piece of green that made a perfect binding.

Here is a peek at the quilting.

Now to finish that binding.

Have a great day.

December/January Goals

Here’s a look back at my December goals.

1. I must start and finish a top secret project. I’ll be working on that today.

Done!

2. Participate in the 52 Quilters project the week of December 11! Done!

I also finished a quilt for my mom made out of my dad’s shirts. I’ll share that next Friday. And I have one more quilt I may have finished by midnight tomorrow!

Not bad! I haven’t set goals for January yet. I’ll work on that next week. I’m still recovering from Christmas!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ T-Shirt Quilt

I mentioned before that I had a secret project I was working on. Now that this quilt has been gifted, I can share it with you. My pastor’s wife asked me to make this for our pastor. Our church uses t shirts to identify our volunteers to our visitors. She brought over one of each T-shirt we have used over the last five years we’ve been in existence.

I decided to embroider some of our core values/beliefs on blocks cut from the backs of the shirts as well.

Here is a look at the back and binding.

This is the first T-shirt quilt I have quilted on my long arm. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. And I think he liked it!

If you are interested, you can learn more about my church here.

Have a great day!

Leader/Enders

Do you use the leader/ender system? It was popularized by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville fame. You can click here to read her explanation of it. Anyway, since I finished the Puss in the Corner blocks I had been using as leaders/enders, I decided to pull out this bin of 11/2 inch cut squares to use as while working on the baby quilt that I shared on Friday.

I pulled some squares out and matched them up to make four patches.

I sewed them at the beginning and end of the seams of the baby quilt.

Before I knew it, I had a pile of them done!

It remains to be seen what they will become, but doing them like this makes it feel like a free project.

Have a great day!

Vintage Daisy Quilt

Remember this? I think I’m finally ready to quilt it. I debated for a long time about adding borders, but in the end, I decided to leave it as is. I don’t think the fabric in the blocks was prewashed and I’m concerned about uneven shrinking.

Now, how to quilt it! I played around with an app called Doodle to get some ideas. My first thought was an all over random grid.

Maybe swirls.

Maybe a grid that doesn’t go over the daisies.

Hmmmm…..maybe the straight lines?

Actually, I rather like the combination of swirls and grids.

I’ll have to think about that. But then, what about the daisies themselves?

Lots to think about here.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Tuesday ~ Wild Child

I finished this quilt and wrote this post a few weeks ago and then forgot to publish it! So here it is!

The weather has not cooperated for photos lately, but here is the finished Wild Child quilt.

I really love this panto called Splat and will be using it again soon!

I’m still practicing my machine binding. I loved doing it by hand, but it really aggravates the carpal tunnel.

I never thought I would say it, but I think the green on the back actually calms this down!

Have a great day!

Hope of all Hopes

Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams,
a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift.
And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great.
The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders.
His name? His name we’ll know in many ways—
He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing,
Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace.
His leadership will bring such prosperity as you’ve never seen before—
    sustainable peace for all time.
This child: God’s promise to David—a throne forever, among us,
to restore sound leadership that cannot be perverted or shaken.
He will ensure justice without fail and absolute equity. Always.
The intense passion of the Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies,
    will carry this to completion

Family

We’ve had such a good time with family and I hate to see them head home! Daughter #2 left yesterday and #1 Son and his two boys leave tomorrow. We made the most of our time though and made some fun memories.

I’m so very thankful.
