Pierre

I said goodbye to my little buddy this week.  He was my constant companion in the sewing room.

And every time I sat in my chair, he plopped himself next to me.

He was with us for nearly 16 years. Which is a long time, and yet, it doesn’t seem like it was long enough.

I miss him so much already.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Daisies

This is my last finish for 2017.

These vintage blocks were purchased at an estate sale a few years ago.

I love finishing these old projects! The appliqué bits were all basted.

I used black pearl cotton to appliqué these blocks in a fashion that was popular in the 1930s and 40s.

Normally I like to keep the quilting on these very traditional. But the reality is, this quilt was begun in the last century and completed in this one. No one who looks at this quilting will ever be confused about that!

Here’s a look at the back. I used a plain, unbleached muslin.

Here are a few more photos taken after washing.

I love that texture!

Have a great day!

QOV 2017

I quilted quite a few tops this past year for my Stitching Sisters QOV Group. But I also pieced a few tops myself and quilted them up. Here are the QOVs I made last year.

Have a great day!

Work in Progress Wednesday

Not a great deal of progress in the sewing department. I helped out with mailings at church yesterday and have been trying to get some housecleaning done as well.

It took me forever too decide on a layout for these tumblers., but I finally settled and have started sewing rows. I spent far too much time with this:

But at least I got a few of these made as leaders/enders.

Hope you are all making progress this week on your projects!

2017 Baby Quilts

I just love making baby quilts! It’s a great chance to try out ideas on a small scale. I also love a quick finish! Here are the baby quilts I completed this past year.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Jeep Quilt

I disciplined myself to finish the granny square top and started playing with these tumblers.

I’m not happy with the layout yet, so I’ll keep tweaking it. I had purchased several yards of this border print for the backing, but I’m thinking now that I will use it for borders.

I’m hoping I’ll get time to play with this more today. Have a good one!

This and That Saturday

This has been catch up week. First on the agenda this week was putting away all the decorations. I’m amazed that this glass ornament has survived all these years!

Since I haven’t been sewing much, I thought I’d share some of my Christmas gifts. Mr. Wonderful replaced my Fit Bit with an Apple Watch. I’m still learning how to use it.

Daughter #1 bought these beautiful precuts for me!

From my sister. We grew up in Wisconsin and she still lives there.

Daughter #3 had this beautiful bracelet made. The engraving is my dad’s handwriting. I cried buckets when I opened it.

Mr. Wonderful also surprised me with this book. It is fascinating and makes me want to buy an old Jeep to restore.

We went to an estate sale over the holidays. I forgot about it until a half hour before it was all over. When we got there, they said everything marked $100 or less was now a dollar! I came home with this dresser and another enamel top table for the grand total of two bucks!

Now to find a place to put it.

Have a good day and stay warm!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Stairway to Heaven

I finished this quilt, made from my dad’s shirts in time to give it to my mom for Christmas.

I was a little surprised to realize most of his shirts were darker colors. Then my sister reminded that it was because he had a tendency to get food stains on his shirts. We had a good laugh about that!

I used a panto from Urban Elementz called Ground Cover. I love the texture!

So many memories here. He wore the olive green shirt when we took our trip to Arizona together.

It was terribly difficult to cut into his shirts. But I’m glad I did. I made this from the sleeves of his shirts. I told Mom that I hoped when she wrapped up in it that she would feel his arms around her.

Have a great day.

Selfish Sewing

Other than putting the granny square blocks up on the design wall, I haven’t been in the sewing room all week. I’ve been dealing with the aftermath of the holidays, cleaning and putting away decorations. We had guests for nearly three weeks. I don’t like doing a bunch of housework when guests are here, so it was pretty bad by the time they all left. Last night I decided enough was enough and headed downstairs. I should finish up the granny square top, but I wanted to work on something for me. So I pulled out these fat quarters.

And this die from Accuquilt (By the way, they have some GO! Dies for up to 40% off right now).

And I cut these.

I want to make a quilt to leave in Oscar, my Jeep, for picnics, camping, beach outings etc.

I like the large tumblers; I think they will show off the fabrics nicely.

I hope you all find some time to sew today!

2017 Hand Quilted Quilts

At the beginning of each year, I enjoy taking a look back at the quilts I have finished the year before. I’ve sorted them out into categories and will share these posts here and there during the month of January.

I decided that 2017 would be the year that I finally hand quilted this antique top that I purchased a number of years ago in a local thrift shop. In the process, I fell in love with hand quilting all over again.

I’m not very good at it. But I found that with lots of close quilting in al overall pattern, I could make up in quantity what I lacked in quality! Before I finished this top, I began looking for another to quilt, then another, and another….. I stuck to hand quilting vintage tops. Here are the others I finished this year.

Carpal tunnel is slowing me down, but I hope to do a couple more vintage tops this year.

Have a great day!
