Finish It Up Thursday ~ A Diamond in the Rough

Finally! This little quilt took me way longer than it should have.

As a reminder, this is what it looked like before I took it apart to hand quilt it.

My quilting isn’t great, but it’s done. I like it better quilted than tied, as it was before.

Here is the back.

I had planned to hand wash this, but I was so sick of the thing, I threw it in the washer. It came out just fine!

Most of the stains came out. The worst one remains, but it is much better than it was.

Have a great day!

Quilts of Valor 2021

It’s that time of year when I start looking back at what I’ve accomplished in the sewing room over that past year. Today, I’m looking at Quilts of Valor. I completed two this year and both have been awarded.

I also recently finished this quilt and it will probably end up as a QOV also.

In addition , I longarm quilted 29 tops for my Stitching Sisters QOV group.

I would like to piece and quilt a few more tops in the coming year.

Have a great day!

Leftovers

I was casting about in the sewing room, looking for a small project to do, and I found these.

These are leftovers from this disaster. I played around with them a bit, trying to get inspired.

There is definitely some potential here. I’m going to have to think on it some more though.

By the way, here are the Accuquilt dies I used to make these flying geese. They will finish at 1 1/2 by 3 inches.

Have a great day!

PS In case you didn’t know, there is a great Accuquilt Live event going on today.

Make sure you register here so you are eligible for the prizes!

Christmas Decorating

I kept my decorating very simple this year. We hung the stockings.

And trimmed the tree.

And Big L helped me dress up Jack.

And here’s a little something that made me laugh way too hard!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Finally! I think I’m finally ready start hand quilting this top.

I bought it for a song in AZ last winter. You can read about it here. It needed a few repairs so I decided to remove one row that had a torn block. This allowed me to use fabric from that row to repair other spots.

In the photo below, my patch job is obvious. The green fabric faded and didn’t match very well from the center to the edges. I also appliqued one of the blocks over a four patch that had holes all through it. Not perfect repairs, but now part of the history of the piece.

It’s very much a utility sort of quilt, so I want the quilting to reflect that.

Before I go, I wanted to let you know about this great sale on Accuquilt Studio dies!

This is the lowest price I’ve seen for these so click here if you need dies for your studio cutter.

Have a great day!

This and That

Yesterday was all about the grandsons! I love my boys and just had the best days with them! We made some fun projects together, but I totally forgot to take pictures of the finished projects!

Big L loved using my die cutter! Our first project was a card with felt and the gnome die.

Little L loved the letters I cut with the Carefree alphabet die.

Big L is quite enthralled with my embroidery machine. We made a zippered bag with his name embroidered on it.

He also helped me decorate Jack.

He loves sewing! I love making things with him. And throughout the day, I randomly heard Little L yelling, “I love you, Nana!”

What could be better than that?

I hope your day is at least half as good as mine was. Take care!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Buckeye Beauty

I finished this while I was back in Michigan. I’m really glad this one is behind me.

You may remember that I used one of the Moda Cake Recipe pads to make the blocks. I didn’t really enjoy it.

This is the pantograph that I used to quilt it. It wasn’t the best choice. It showed well on the back, but was lost on the front.

I used a sheet for the back because I had one on hand. I do love this red print.

It finished at 60 by 80 inches. I’m trying to decide if it is suitable for a Quilt of Valor.

Have a great day!

Updates from the Sewing Room

Are you tired of hearing about Harry yet? Hubby is on vacation this week, so other than the long arm set up, I haven’t had time to start any projects . I finally got to try Harry out though.

And he’s a keeper! It’s a slightly different feel than my Friday, my HQ Forte. But I’ll get used to it.

That looks like a hot mess! But the tension needed only a little adjustment. This thread came with. Not what I usually use, but it’s always good to try new things.

I got lots of bobbins as well which made it so I could try it out right away.

Thanks for all your sweet comments! I am blessed indeed!

Have a great day!

Meet Harry Belle Avante the 2nd

I got Harry all set up!

It was a happy moment to turn him on and see this.

Of courses, this process has necessitated yet another overhaul of the sewing room.

I will have wonderful light from those windows! my Bernina cabinet is narrower than the table I had here so it got moved. The cabinet is on wheels so it’s easy to move near a table if I’m binding a bigger quilt.

I took my 301 out of its card table. I’m going to see if I’m okay with it on this table.

And I moved my die cutting stuff into this corner.

I still have two tables in the middle of the room as an island.

This will get tweaked more, I’m sure.

Hopefully today I will get a chance to take Harry for a test drive.

Have a great day!
