Finish It Up Friday ~ Blueberry ParkĀ

As I mentioned before, my definition of “finish” has had to change! This week, I have a finished top!

Not surprisingly, I went with a simple set.

.

It finished at about 48 by 60 inches. Here’s a peek at the back.

Not for the squeamish, I know! Anyway, that’s one top done and dusted!

Have a great day!

My Sewing Space

I have done a bit of rearranging in the bedroom to create a sewing area. There is a totally empty room I could use, but  this has the best light.

I placed a cutting mat on the dresser.

This is the view from my sewing machine. It is nice being able to watch Netflix  while I sew!

I already have a scrap bucket started!

There is a bed for the room recently vacated by the house sitter that quit. Daughter #2 used this as a guest room and has a bed to go in here. For now, I decided the mattress would make a good design wall!

I pinned my Fons and Porter design wall sheet to it. The light is good in here during the day so it works for me.

Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ 36 Patch

I cut these 2 inch strips of Denyse Schmidt prints ages ago.

Before I got here, I cut white strips to go with so I could make a 36 patch top from them. This is how I am making my blocks.

First, I sew a white strip to a print strip. I do 6 sets at a time. Then I sub cut those into 13 inch lengths.

After sewing them together,  I careful stack up my strips sets so the seams are staggered.

Using a fresh blade, I rotary cut my strips.

I sort them into piles and chain piece my blocks.

And here are my six blocks.

Only 58 to go! Time for another season of Call the Midwife!

Have a great day!

October/November Goals!

Now that I am many miles from my long arm, I am redefining  the term “finish!” But lets take a look at my goals from October and see how I did.

  1. I have some Quilts of Valor to quilt and they are at the top of my list!  Done! I quilted 5 last month.
  2. I’d like to finish my Gee’s Geese quilt before I go. Done! img_9221
  3. I need to get all my projects and tools packed for AZ. I should think about a few clothes as well. Well, that is done because for better or worse,  I am here! LOL

What else did I finish in October? One very longstanding UFO!

And I finished my Quilts Madder Quilt.

Yay for me!

Now, this is what I want to get done in November

  1. I want to piece a  secret top that is a bit of a puzzle. I won’t be able to share, but I am adding it to my list because I want to get it done.
  2. I want to get my Denise Schmidt 36 Patch top done. I cut strips for this ages ago.
  3. I want to get my Blueberry Park Quilt top finished.

Let’s see how sidetracked I get with other projects I have brought along! I’m really not sure how to even make goals for this month. My life has changed so drastically, I don’t know what I can get done!

Here is a list of projects that I brought with me:

1. 30s Hourglass

2. Annie’s QOV

3. Log cabin

4. M&S jelly rolls

5. DS 36 patch

6. DS Squares

7. Mimosa charms

8. Scrappy rectangles

9. Heather Baily QCR

10. MI quilt

11. Solid tumblers

12. Red green yellow

13. Scrappy trips

14. Log cabin diamonds

15. Granny square

16. Coffin DS

17. C&S tumblers

18. Blueberry Park half rectangles

This list might not make sense to you, but it does to me. I also brought several layer cakes that I don’t yet have a plan for. I would hate to run out of sewing!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Blueberry Park

I’ve pieced all my half rectangles blocks and now it is time to play!

I like simple sets that let the fabric shine.

But this is kind of interesting as well.

Well, I am excited to say that I am off for a sewing day with Zenia of  A Quilted Passion today!

Have a good one!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Casket Patches

I decided not to bring the vintage quilt top for hand quilting after all. And here is the reason:

I realized It would be rare when I didn’t have a dog on my lap so it was unlikely that I would get much done.

But of course, now that I’m here, I do want a hand project, just not one quite that big. And then I remembered these.

I brought them intending to stitch them by machine. I cut these out ages ago with this template.

I’m very sorry but I have no idea where I got this.

I cut all of these out of Denise Schmidt prints.

If I find I’m not getting enough hand stitching time in, I can always go back to my machine stitching plan.

Have a great day!

Textures

One of the things I always notice here in Arizona, are all the amazing textures! Here are a few I noticed while taking a walk this week.

I think there is a lot of machine quilting inspiration here!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Quilters Madder

ETA: The link up is now open! Hop on over to Humble Quilts to see all the beautiful finishes from this QAL!
My first finish in Arizona! I have done a number of QALs hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts. I’ve enjoyed them all. This one was no exception!

The binding was actually finished on the plane somewhere over New Mexico. These first pics are before washing.

And these are after.

.

I love the texture that the quilting gave!

Have a great day!

TBT Humble Quilts QALs

Since it is almost time for the most recent Humble Quilts QAL reveal, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the past Humble Quilts QALs that I have participated in. Lori always does a great job with these and I have loved every one I have done.

This one was called Mid-Winter Blues. Someday, I want to make a big quilt in this pattern.

Cascadia was another fun one and used up a whole bunch of 1 1/2 inch squares I had cut. My version is slightly different than Lori’s, I think I made one fewer row of squares in the center.  This quilt is one of my most pinned quilts on Pinterest!

This one was called Faithful. You started with any block you wanted for the center so they all ended up quite different.

This one was called harmony and it was a fun way to use up a bunch of scraps. I remember that I had those HSTs already pieced and clearly, I just cut them off to make them fit. It works for me!

This one might have been the very first QAL that I participated in. Loved this one too! It is called Abundance.

This one is Country Roads and just might be my favorite so far.

None of these little quilts would have been made without being a part of the quilt alongs. Lori hosts these once or twice a year. Don’t miss the next one!

Have a great day!

Arizona!

I made it! Here is home sweet home for the next few months.

All went well, my luggage was even a tiny bit underweight! I got the binding on my Quilters Madder quilt done on the plane.

I played and walked these two hooligans after I arrived.

Then I got some groceries, came home, and set this little beauty up.

No sewing tonight, I’m bushed! And I also need to acclimate to a three hour time difference. So I might be sewing in the wee hours of the morning! Tomorrow I get to spend the day with Big L and Little L. I can’t wait!

I still need to get internet set up. In the mean time, I am blogging  from my phone.

Have a great day! I surely will!
