Eastern Market in Detroit

Hubby booked a walking tour of the Eastern Maket in Detroit for us and yesterday was the tour. It was fun and very interesting! For as close as we live, I have really spent very little time in Detroit.  I know now that I want to go back and explore more of this colorful city. This is the oldest continuous fruit/veggie market in the US.

I found some quilting inspiration!

Interestingly, they use murals and street art to combat graffiti. And it works!

This next one was in progress.

This building houses artist lofts.

This used to be a brewery, but now it is artist lofts as well.

Love this sentiment.

The murals all have sponsors. The sponsor gets to choose the artist and them for their mural. The first murals were painted here back in the early 1970s.

Such a fun day! I can’t wait to go back. Have a good one!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Batik Rectangles

I finished up my batik rectangles quilt!

I really love the lavender binding. I finished it by machine and I’m pleased with how well that turned out.

I spent way too much time trying to decide on a backing fabric and ended up just using a wide muslin. The panto graph is called Elongated Meander. It is from Digi-Tec.

The rectangles finish at 2 by 4 inches. I used a die from Accuquilt to cut the pieces. If you click this link, you can get free shipping on your order from Accuquilt.

Have a great day!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival 2017 ~ Entry #2

I had a really hard time choosing my second entry for BQF hosted by Amy at Amy’s Creative Side . I finally settled on this quilt that I made for Daughter #3 and SIL for their wedding shower.

Most of the prints are from Tim Holtz’ lines.

The background is Grunge, but I cannot tell you the color name.

I freehand the quilting. I hoped to give it the look of a topographical map.

Please visit Amy’s Creative Side to see all the other entries!

Blogger’s Quilt Festival Fall 2017 ~ Entry #1

It’s time once again for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival hosted by Amy at Amy’s Creative Side.

Long time readers will have seen this quilt before, but it remains one of my favorite finishes this year so I decided to share it again for BQF.

This was made entirely from solid scraps that I cut up using my tumbler die from Accuquilt.

Make sure you use the link above to head over to Amy’s to see all the other beautiful quilts!

Have a great day!

Happy Mail!

fThis arrived on my doorstep recently!

These first two pieces are quite out of character for me, but they are for a certain little girl I know.

I’ve been wanting a bundle of this line for a while.

This was the daily deal.

And I thought this was beautiful. Honestly, I wasn’t quite as thrilled when I saw it in person. I’m not sure why.

I hope you all enjoy some happy Mail this week too!

I decided to make my machine quilted piece and turn it into a table runner.

I’m really happy with how it turned out!

DWMonday ~ Border Quilting

I’m trying to decide how I will quilt the border of this quilt. I used my no longer available Adobe Ideas app to try a few things out. I’m not good at drawing with my finger!

Don’t laugh but this next one is supposed to be a cable!
Whatever design I use, it will be adjusted so that the quilting density is similar to that in the body of the quilt.

Once again, I apologize for not responding to comments. I’m spending the week with my mom.

Have a great day!

Fish Town

Over Labor Day weekend, Mr. Wonderful and I visited Fish Town in Leland, Michigan. Here is a blurb from the web site which explains better than I can.

Northern Michigan’s commercial fishing heritage remains alive today in Leland’s Fishtown! Walk along the docks, amongst the weathered fishing shanties, smokehouses, racks of drying fishing nets, and fish tugs on the Leland River, and you can imagine what it would have been like in the early 1900s to live and work in this small fishing village, nestled along the shore of Lake Michigan. Fishtown still operates as one of the only working commercial fishing villages in the state of Michigan.

It is a very picturesque place to visit. Here are some photos I took.

It was actually quite crowded and took some waiting and cropping to get photos without people!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Baby Quilt

Here is the finished bab quilt that I gave to my friend at her shower last weekend.

I quilted swirls on the sides and continuous curve in the parallelograms.

I managed to e p enough matching fabrics for a pieced back.

It’s so nice when you can make the whole thing from stash!

Have a great day!
