D9P QOV

These blocks were made by members of our Stitching Sisters QOV Group. We brought them in National QOV Sew Day in February. Someone put them together and I got to quilt it.

I’m pleased with how the orange peel design turned out. I used navy Glide thread in both the top and bottom.

Winnie says the stitching on the back doesn’t show at all!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Scrappy Trips

I finished up my Scrappy Trips quilt a while back. I’m finally getting around to sharing it.

This started with this jelly roll of Boundless Ombré from Craftsy. I originally planned to use this gray for the background. I’m glad I went with the white.

In this next photo, you get a sneak peek at my backing surprise!

I found this at a discount shop a while back and grabbed it as I knew it would make a great backing someday! It was marked 100% Cotton on the selvedge.

I love how it turned out!

Have a great day!

Pattern Boards

I purchased some new pattern boards and finally had a chance to try them out on this Quilt of Valor. Pattern boards are similar to pantographs in that you stand at the back of the machine to use them, but they are definitely more difficult to learn to use. I wrote a bit about how they work here.

This one is called a Orange Peel. Because these are quite pricy, I look for patterns that can be used in more than one way.

This next photo shows how it stitches out if you quilt every line.

If you only quilt two lines opposite of each other, you can make circles (almost).

If you quilt only the “humps,” you end up with clam shells.

This takes longer to do than a pantograph, but I don’t think I could get results this good with a panto. It takes way less time than creating these designs with templates. So I think this set will prove to be a good investment.

I’ll show the finished quilt soon. Have a great day!

Labyrinth Walk

I finished quilting this Labyrinth Walk quilt for my friend, Donna. It’s a big one! I love the colors and fabrics she chose. She wanted a custom job that would emphasize the 3D design.

That meant lots of ruler work. When the quilt was on the frame, the quilting hardly showed at all and at times it was difficult to see where I had been!

I even started asking myself if custom quilting was even worth it. And then I took it off the frame and placed it in my guest bed.

Yep. It was worth it!

This is not a quilt for the faint of heart. Donna thinks she’s a new quilter , but I think she did an awesome job!

By the way, this is what nearly a quarter million stitches looks like! Have a great day!

This and That Tuesday

I wanted to get this top pieced last week, but I only got one portion of the top done.

I participated in the churn dash swap hosted by Barb. I’m thrilled with the blocks I got back! These will finish at 6 inches.

On National Quilting Day, this happened! I’m so excited that I won this fabulous lot from Moda!

Martingale had a great sale recently. I got each of these books for $6. They came today and I can’t wait to sit down and peruse them.

Though I spent a good chunk of the day on it, I didn’t get this done. I did start adding extra lines in the green and I like it much better this way.

One more border, the little black bits, and a good once over is all that is left to do. Maybe I’ll finish tomorrow?

Yesterday I picked up more QOVs to quilt , so I hope to finish this and get the first one of those loaded.

Have a great day!

DWMonday

My friend knew what she wanted for quilting on this lovely top. Here is the plan as I drew it on my MyDoodle app.

I did go with pebbles rather than loops on the actual quilt. The quilting is really hard to see!

I went with straight lines in the borders to keep the emphasis on the labyrinth.

I love the backing fabric she chose. It is from a Michael Miller. This kind of quilting takes a while. I hope to finish today.

Then I will go back over it to fix any boo boos, like this one. Pleats. Ugh. Just in this one spot but it means ripping and redoing.

I still have to go back and quilt in the black areas, but will change thread for that. I’m also thinking about adding more lines in the green. These are about an inch apart, but I’m not sure it’s enough.

You know where I’ll be today. Have a good one!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Churn Dash

I’m still working away on my vintage churn dash top.

I’m just turning the corner onto the fourth side.

It’s amazing, but the quilting will be nearly half done when the border is finished. I’m loving how this looks. And I’m still not bored with Barb’s fans.

This is just to share with you the struggles I sometimes have getting blog photos!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ The Accidental Christmas Quilt

I loved these blocks, I’ve hated this top, now I love it again! I didn’t set out to make a Christmas quilt, but it appears that is what I have made.

When I shared backgrounds, most of you liked the green, but several said red. So I used both! I did use a different red. Actually two different Minnick & Simpson reds from thePolka Dot and Paisley collection.

I never pictured this green with these blocks, but it works!

I kept with a simple muslin backing.

I think I’m quite smitten with this now! Sometimes, you just have to let the quilt tell you what it wants to be.

Have a great day!

This and That Thursday

It’s been a busy, busy week here! I got my sewing room put back together after craft night. I had to take a photo since it was so clean!

I cleaned out this cart so I could keep all the stuff for our next craft night on it. We will be finishing our string art projects next time.

Then I spent some time cutting apart these shirts for a t-shirt quilt commission.

I’m watching my littles again today, but I hope to get this quilt loaded for my friend this afternoon. Still haven’t decided how to quilt it yet.

I also wanted to say thank you for “liking” my photo on Instagram earlier this week. I came in second place!

Have a great day!

Happy Pi Day!

March 14th is also known as Pi Day. It is the day nerds everywhere celebrate our favorite irrational number!

I wanted to share with you the work of one of my favorite quilt makers, Connie Griner. Here is Slice of Pi.

Isn’t this the best? I love the details in the quilting! It’s the kind of quilt that I look at and think, I wish I had made that! You can see more of Connie’s amazing quilts on Instagram. Here is her info so you can find and follow her.
