September/October Goals

I love September and here it is already over! Here are the goals I set myself for This month:

1. I want to get the blocks made for a Christmas quilt for Big L. Done! Not just the blocks, the whole quilt!

2. I want to have a plan for a Christmas quilt for Little L. Not done. I know it will be an I Spy quilt, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

3. I want to quilt QOVs for the Stitching Sisters group. Done! I quilted five this month.

4. I want to get started on the bed quilt for Daughter #3 and dear SIL. Done! Well, it is started anyway! img_0667

5. I want to get that tie done. Progress has been made!

What else did I do?

I made this small doll quilt.

I finished and gifted this UFO.

I picked up this top at Good Will and got it quilted and bound.

And I made a baby girl quilt that I will also share soon.

I’ll be traveling in October, so I need to be reasonable as far as goals go.

1. Quilt QOVs.

2. Start a quilt for my family room.

3. Get the top of the I Spy quilt done for Little E.

4. Finish the top for the quilt for Daughter #3.

Have a great day!

Mystery Quilt 4 Military ~ Mosaic Clue #3

I’m still keeping up! No die cutting for this weeks Clue as it required 1 3/4 inch strips.

Apparently, I rely on my die cutter a bit too much….I cut some of my strips at 1 1/2 inch wide and didn’t notice until I had pieced them into my blocks and they didn’t measure up! Rip, rip, rip….

In the end, I got this clue wrapped up and I’m ready for the next one.

Have a great day!

Little Boys PJs

Two of my grandsons are obsessed with dinosaurs right now. I think all little boys go through this stage! So when I saw this flannel in JoAnn’s last week, I had to pick some up!

I seriously have not seen a garment in at least a decade. And that was probably a play costume! But I picked up this pattern and decided to make them pajama pants.

Mistakes were made. I should have taken photos! In the end, I got them done. One pair for E1 and another for E2.

And if you are wondering if they liked them….

E2 had to grab a couple Dino’s to pose with him. 😆

Here is E2 with the dinosaur quilt that I made for him before he was born. It’s nice that he still loves it. It makes this Nana’s heart swell!

I also picked up flannel for my Arizona boys. Hopefully, these will go a bit smoother.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Minecraft!

My first Christmas gift is done! This Minecraft quilt will be for Big L.

I used patterns from Seriously, I Think It Needs Stitches.

I modified it slightly. Mine is based on a 2 inch grid rather than 1 1/2 inches.

I added his name and the year in the quilting.

My machine binding improves little by little.

After washing the flannel backing fabric, I found it shrunk so much that I had to add to it.

I can’t wait to give this to my little guy! But I had better get going on his brother’s quilt.

Also, I wanted to say thank you for all the comments on yesterday’s post. If you are at all interested in the WordPress/Blogger/comments issues, go back and read the comments. Interesting stuff!

Have a great day!

WordPress and Blogger

WordPress and Blogger are both blog platforms. Competing platforms. For years, I’ve gotten reports that I am a “no reply” blogger and that I need to fix this. What that means is, being a WordPress user, I could comment on Blogger blogs, but my email was not linked so no one could reply to my comment. This isn’t a WordPress issue, it is a Blogger issue. They don’t play nice together.

The only way to fix that, was for me to create a blogger or Google profile. Yeah, not gonna do that. I don’t need another thing to sign in and out of every time I want to comment. At the end of the day, I don’t leave comments just to get a response. Having said that, I do like to reply to comments myself so I understand the frustration.

Recently, I’ve noticed that I am no longer able to even comment on many (most?) Blogger blogs. The only option for leaving a comment is to log into Google. Since I don’t have a Google account and have no plan to create one, I can’t even comment let alone expect a response. To make matters worse, most Blogger bloggers don’t even know this is an issue with their own blogs!

I decided to do a bit of investigation and I found this fix. I don’t mean to tell anyone what to do with their own blog, but if you have noticed a lack of comments, this may be why. If you have Google+ comments enabled, you only get comments from Google+ users.

Now, you may be wondering what these particular quilts have to do with this post……the answer is absolutely nothing. But a post without pictures just seems wrong. 😁

So I hope this is helpful information. Have a great day!

Mystery Quilts 4 Military ~ Clue #2

Last week, Alycia posted Clue #2 for the Military Mystery here. Last night, I finally got caught up. As you know, I’m posting the dies I’m using to go along with Alycia’s clues. This clue called for cutting 3 inch squares so I used this die:

The rest of the cutting involved 1 3/4 inch strips so I had to cut those bits the old fashioned way.

I ended up with these blocks.

And this cut strips to be used in a future step.

There is still time to jump in on this mystery! Click on the link above to visit Alycia Quilts for all the details.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Arrows

Our pastor and his wife have grown their multicultural family through adoption. Such a beautiful thing! Their youngest son turned one year old on September 1st. Days later, they received a phone call informing them that his birth mother just had a baby girl. The birth mom requested that they adopt this sweet baby as well. Their instant response was YES! Can you imagine? They have three weeks (now two since they learned about this a week ago today), to get paperwork filed, fingerprints processed, and funds gathered. Most people have nine months to prepare, imagine only three weeks! Of course, I’m making a quilt. These are the fabrics I’ve chosen.

They are selling T-shirt’s to raise money. The shirts have this verse on them:

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Psalm 127:4

You can purchase one here if you would like. They are cool shirts and well designed!

Given all of that, I had to make an arrow quilt for this little one. I didn’t have a pattern so I’m making it up as I go. Here’s the start. I strip pieced the pink and white strips (they are cut 1 1/2 inches wide), then folded the strip set in half, right sides facing. Then when I cut the 45 degree angles, I had two pieces in mirror image.

I drew a pattern to paper piece the arrowhead. It took a few tries to get it to look right.

And voila! The rest of the quilt will be easy. Good thing, the shower is next Monday!

I can’t wait to meet and hold their fifth “arrow!” Don’t feel obligated, but they have a Go Fund Me page set up here if you would like to help financially that way. You can also just click that link if you would like to read more about their story.

Have a beautiful day!
