Another One on the Frame

I have a goal to go through and clean all the closets and cupboards in my house. It’s going to take a while. My motivation is that I let myself go sew after finishing each drawer, cupboard, closet etc. so this is what is next on the frame.

This will be a graduation quilt. I’m not likely to be in Wisconsin for the actual graduation, but I am headed there soon. So I thought I’d get this finished up so I could take it with me when I go. This s the panto I am using.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Gwennie

I think my center block is finally done. It looked too naked before.

I’m really terrible at hand appliqué, but for better or worse, it’s done.

I definitely like it better now. I will call my wonkiness folk art and move on. Now I need to figure out my last few borders and get this top done.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ QOV

I finished up another Quilt of Valor last week. This was made from a Minnick and Simpson jelly roll from their Polka Dots and Paisleys line.

The block pattern was free on he Moda Bake Shop site and it is called Tropical Punch. Not very tropical here, but I liked the pattern!

I used a pantograph called Techno for the quilting. It is available from Digi-Tech.

Here are a couple shots taken after washing.

Have a great day!

Nankeen

Do you know what Nankeen is? I didn’t! Not until Saturday night when Mr. Wonderful got home from his most recent trip to China. While there, he scouted out the perfect gift for me! He had to go off the beaten path in Shanghai to find this place.

They design and produce traditional Chinese cotton cloth here called Nankeen.

These stencils are used to apply a resist before the cotton is dyed with indigo.

This brochure explains more about it. I loved every the creative translation!
And here are the pieces he brought home for me. They are all one meter pieces and they are about 17 inches from selvedge to selvedge.

They are more of a true indigo and white than these pictures show. They are so gorgeous!

Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ Marmalade

I found the matching white fabrics I needed for the border of this small top and finished it up so I could get on to the quilting.

I will be donating this small quilt to our local Habitat for Humanity Quilt show/silent auction.

I decided to use my pattern boards for the quilting on this.

I like the it so far!

Have a great day!

February/March Goals

This month has flown by! Here is what I had hoped to accomplish this month:

1. I want to finish the top I’m making from these blocks. It will be a Quilt of Valor. Done! It is even quilted and bound! I will show it soon.

2. I had two of these jelly rolls and I have a quick and easy idea for using up the rest of this in another Quilt of Valor top.  Done! Quilted and bound! I’ll share this soon.

3. I plan to make a baby quilt top from these mini charm packs and some Kona gray. Not done. I made the 4 patches and haven’t done anything else with them.

After I get home, I want to quilt up a couple of the small tops I’ve made while in Arizona. Not done.

But I did quilt up a secret project. I also paired up several tops with backings and I have batting on hand so I hope  I can get to these soon.

What else did I do? Besides moving back home, I finished this QOV.

I made this mini for a friend.

Time to look at March. I will be heading to Wisconsin to visit my parents this month. I am not sure how long I will be there.

  1. I want to get this quilt top marked for quilting and basted on the long arm to take with me. blog 030
  2. I have to get the top done for Daughter #2’s QOV .
  3.  I want to get another QOV top done for presentation in May.
  4. I need to get my Gwennie Medallion top done so I can quilt it in April and send it off for the show at Quilt Works.  img_8903
  5.  I want to get one of the small tops I made finished for our local Habitat for Humanity quilt show/silent auction.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Gwennie Medallion

I’ve never been happy with the center block of my medallion top. It looks too sparse, like I don’t like appliqué or something!

It’s time to fix this before the top grows any bigger. I’ve pulled out a few books that have some primitive appliqué designs to see if I can pull a few elements that I can add to this.

As I find shapes I think might work, I am tracing them  onto freezer paper and cutting them out.

I haven’t come to Amy final decisions yet, but even laying a few pieces on this makes it look better!

I hope to finalize my design and get my pieces prepped today.

Have a good one!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ This and That

Today I will be stitching some labels on for Quilts of Valor.

I bought some fabric with these labels on from Spoonflower a few years ago. I should have sent them back because at least a third of them were printed like this:

This picture was taken straight on. These are so far from being square that they are unuseable. My bad for not bringing it to their attention. I’m not sure why I  didn’t. Anyway, I’ll be using the last few good ones and will have to decide if I want to buy more somewhere else, or go back to making my own.

In other news, Pierre seems to be glad I am home. He is keeping me company in the sewing room.

I’ve been spending time with Big E and Little E.

And Big L sent me a video for my birthday.

And I can’t leave Little L out! Here he is!

While sewing this week, I listened to this book.

I highly recommend this! It’s so good, that I’m going to listen to it a second time!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Let Freedom Ring

Here is my first finish since arriving back in Michigan.

I used a panto called Amaze Me.

I had to piece the backing.

As you can see, I didn’t attempt to match it. I’ve had this backing fabric for ages. I think it complements the top nicely.

And here are some pictures taken after washing.

Have a great day!
