Quilting QOVs Again!

I picked up a few Quilt of Valor tops over the weekend. This lovely one belongs to Kathy D.

I decided to use this panto on it.

I’m so pleased with the texture it gives.

I hope to get this one finished and the next one loaded today.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Blueberry ParkĀ

Remember this small top?

It is currently 48 by 60 inches. A bit on the small side for a lap quilt so I’ve been considering adding white borders. I’ve also begun thinking about how I want to quilt this. Here are a few possibilities.

I’m not in love with any of these ideas, so I’ll keep playing with it.

Have a great day!

Jeep the Mac 2017

Ever since hubby and I have been married, I’ve driven practical vehicles. I’m okay with that. We have four kids and function has always been the most important consideration. I have never really cared what I drove as long as it fit the family and was reliable. But just over a week ago, we bought the vehicle of my dreams! Meet Oscar, my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Freedom Edition.

I fell in love with Daughter #2’s  Rubicon that I drove out in Arizona. I honestly never thought I would be interested in off roading though, until hubby and I got to go on the Jeep track at the dealer. Now I can’t wait to go! I have a lot to learn, but it should be fun!

I just got back from my third trip to Wisconsin since I got back from Arizona. My dad has had cancer for some time and is now in hospice care. I didn’t realize it until I was there early last week, that I would be traveling home over the Mackinaw bridge at the same time as the Jeep the Mac event.

It is an entire weekend of activities for Jeep enthusiasts. The big event on Friday is the massive Jeep migration over the bridge and back. So I decided I wanted to take part too! There were nearly 700 Jeeps that participated in the crossing. Here are a couple pics of the staging area.

There were Jeeps as far as the eye could see! It was really fun to walk around and see all the different models.

I found out that Jeep peeps are very friendly people! I tend to be rather shy, but I talked to some really nice folks there. I had to get home Friday night, but next year I want to go for The whole weekend and take part in the trail rides at Drummond Island as well as the scavenger hunts. Here are a few more pics from the event.

I guess it’s time to make a Jeep quilt!

Have a great day!

Vintage Redwork

A dear friend of mine gave me this redwork top that had been made by a great aunt of hers. This is another top that I am thinking about starting to hand quilt.

It is lng and narrow. I don’t really want to take it apart, maybe I will add borders to the sides to give it some width. It has really fun blocks in it!

I love the expression on this girl’s face. I feel that way sometimes too.

A cross Betsy Ross?

This is just odd. The body looks like a baby, but the face does not.

What is this animal?

Hey, George, I found your axe!

Looks like a wise old dog to me!

I wonder who Jack was…

There is no doubt as to the date and place this was created!

Have a great day!

WIP WednesdayĀ

The current WIP is my house. I hung up some quilts in the family room. I hung my log cabin quilt over the fireplace.

On my rack, I hung my Midwinter Blues quilt.

I have my Grant’s Bowties on the couch.

And my tiny tumblers on the coffee table behind the couch.

If I decide that I’m keeping this arrangement, I will switch to a higher table in this spot.

Have a great day!

Believe it or not….

Thank you all for your input regarding the placement of the daisy blocks! Hopefully, I can get them stitched together soon.

Since I finished  the vintage quilt top that I was recently  working on, I’m actually hunting around for another hand quilting project! This is a vintage top I purchased a number of years ago at an estate sale.

It doesn’t lay flat, probably due to varying skill levels among the block makers. I love all the names!

I had to laugh at this next one. It’s what I would have done!

Looks like Ma was too busy taking care of the family to get around to embroidering her block!

Some blocks were pieced by hand and some by machine.

I love this top, but I might just love this one as is.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Vintage Daisies

I have other projects that I need to work on, but I was in the mood for something different. So I pulled out these daisy blocks that I finished last fall and squared them all up. They currently measure 17 1/2 inches square. Now to decide how to set them.

There are 20 blocks so they will be set 4 by 5, but there is no good way to make the setting symmetrical.

I’m leaning toward the first picture. Feel free to weigh in!

Have a great day!

A Little DIY

While Daughter #2 was here, she helped me tackle a few DIY projects.

That wallpaper border went up nearly 16 years ago. It was time for it to go.

I always loved it as well as the paint color, but I think I’m ready for something new.  We also did a bit of furniture rearranging.

Since we moved here 17 years ago, we had the couch in front of those beautiful windows. I finally found an arrangement that opens things up a bit. The room is long and narrow so this isn’t perfect, but I love the change.  Today, I want to shop my house for something different over the fireplace. The picture there is too small. The last quilt I had up there was too big. I’m sure I can find something. I will be painting soon as well. But I’ll be starting with a couple upstairs bedrooms.

Back to work! Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ American Jane

I told you this was shaping up to be a quick finish! Daughter #2 and hubby indulged me in taking a few out door pics while out and about.

This top was pieced from two charm packs and some yardage when I was still in Arizona. The fabric is a very old American Jane line called Fairy Tales or something like that. The small squares finish at 1.5 inches.

I love this backing fabric.

ETA: A free pattern for a similar quilt is available for Cloud 9 Fabrics here

Have a great day!

TBThursday ~ The Trans Am Quilt

I recently shared this on Instagram for the IG Quilt Fest hosted by Amy at Amy’s Creative Side. But I thought I would share it again here. I made this quilt back in 2010 for my son for his graduation from UTI.

My hubby blew the design up to create the pattern for me. The appliquƩ is fusible.

The red is satin stitch.

Here is my son’s baby, Betty!

He liked it!

Have a great day!
