WIP Wednesday

Recently, I cut out pieces for another new quilt. The colors are all blues, browns, creams, and tans. I might use this as a leader ender project. Maybe not. Of course I had to sew a few together just to get an idea of how this should look.

I have kitted up blocks and bagged sets of 20 blocks in bags. I think I have close to 200 blocks cut out. They will finish at 6 inches.

And I have some more pieces to cut.

Have a great day!

And the answer is…..

The other day, I showed you the tiny quilt I made and asked if you could tell which piece of fabric was not vintage.

Several of you guessed that the white binding was new. Nope! It was the green sashing piece right down the middle!

I would have used a vintage piece, but I didn’t have one the right size. That’s okay, it made for a fun little guessing game!

Have a great day!

Another Vintage Top!

We had a great weekend! Yesterday, Mr. Wonderful and I went to a local antique fest. I brought home another vintage quilt to hand quilt.

The dashing is missing on the top edge. I wonder if I should try to find something that sort of matches, or just quilt it as is.

I love the fabrics!

Looks like the fabric in the next star had a manufacturing error.

The stars are all hand pieced, but they were put together by machine.

Would it be ridiculous to quilt yet another top with a Baptist fans?  Hmmm….,

Have a great day!

Black and White

The drive home from my parents is just about 500 miles. I listen to audio books when I go by myself. Sometimes I stop at thrift stores along the way. This time, I decided to stop and take black and white photos along the way.
It was a little foggy when I left a about 6 AM.

It’s a bit hard to tell, but the trees were reflected in the water here.

A good portion of my drive through Northern Wisconsin is on two lane roads. I love these rocky outcroppings along the way.

The trilliums were blooming!

And so we’re the dandelions!

I took many more photos that I will share in upcoming posts.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Baby Top

I finished the hand quilting on this little quilt the day that the last of my kids went home. I’m so pleased with how it turned out!

I didn’t make any attempt to square it up. The fans may seem to big to some, but I love them.

I did wash this when I was done and the stain in the middle is better, but didn’t completely disappear as I had hoped. I’m okay with it now. We all have scars that are part of our story.

I used a plain, I bleached muslin on the back.

Just love this texture!

It just makes me smile to see how the pattern got wonky on the left side. I can just imagine the maker saying, “I just don’t care! I’m so done with this!”

Have a wonderful weekend!

Progress

I am back home again. My dad is hanging in there! I appreciate all your kind thoughts and prayers. I will probably head back again soon. I took more projects than I had time to work on. But I did make progress!

First of all, I   finished putting these blocks together.

I think I would like to add borders yet. We’ll see.

I also pieced all of these blocks that I had cut out ahead of time. I will be cutting more soon.

And I got a few snowball blocks made.

I’m babysitting my local littles today so I don’t know how much sewing I will get done!

Have a good one!

May/June Goals

May was pretty crazy. But since sewing helps keep me sane, I did accomplish a few things. Here is my list from last month and my results.

1. I want to finish this quilt. Done!
2. I would also like to finish this Denyse Schmidt HST quilt. Not done. Didn’t even touch it.

3. I would really like to get a top basted and ready to hand quilt before the family all. Done! In fact, this little quilt even got finished! Here is a peek.

What else did I do?

I quilted and bound my Sea Sick top. I’ll be showing that soon.

I finished the QOV for my daughter’s SO.

I made a tiny quilt.

I also made another mini.

Then there was that whole marrying off my daughter thing… Seriously, she is the most organized person I know and left me with very little wedding wise to do this month outside of hosting family.

On to June.

1. I would like to finish the vintage Daisy quilt.

2. I want to quilt up this tumbler quilt.

3. I want to finish this Granny Square top.

4. I want to decide on the quilting design and get this top basted for hand quilting. Any ideas on how to quilt it?

I’ve surprised myself with how much hand quilting I have done this year. I had forgotten how much I enjoy it!

Time to get to work! Have a good one!

Bucket List Quilt

Have you seen this tiny quilt on Pinterest? It has been on my quilt bucket list for a few years.

I finally decided to make a little kit so I could make it in Wisconsin. I used almost all vintage fabrics.

I kept thinking about this little kit, and since I was up early one morning, I decided to just piece the hour glass blocks.

I made them to finish at 2 inches. They looked too big to me.

So I decided to trim them down so they would finish at 1 1/2 inches.

Here is a little trick I use in very tiny quilts. I take Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton batting and split it.

You have to be careful not to create holes, but it gives an extremely thin batting that works well for teeny tiny quilts.

Then I layer my backing, batting, and top and give it a press. I lay something on top and let it sit until it cools. In this case, I used a cutting mat from my die cutter.

Now I’m ready to hand quilt. I still had time before I needed to leave the house and run errands,  so I got that done too.

Since I was this far along, I went ahead and finished it as soon as I got home.

It finished at about 4 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. I used a piece of old feedsack on the back.

Can you spot the only nonvintage fabric that I used?

Well, this little project never made it to Wisconsin! But it is off my bucket list!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ What’s better than a box of chocolates?

Why, a box of quilt pieces, of course!

Remember last fall when I made a few of these blocks?

I’ve finally cut a few more. Maybe next time I get a craving, I’ll reach for these instead of the chocolate…..maybe…..

Have a beautiful day!
