Disappointment

Notice anything missing here?

Yeah, Friday should be sitting there instead of in this box.

Due to a shipping snafu, the track supports didn’t arrive with my machine on April 20th. They were delivered this past Wednesday, but when I opened the box, I found they shipped the wrong size. Hubby left yesterday for a week overseas and I had planned to quilt the whole week. First world problems, I know. After a good cry, I decided to come up with a new plan for the week.

This is fabric that needs to become a wedding quilt in one month’s time. I should start that.

I’m going to add borders to this so it’s ready to quilt. I hate that I’m just now seeing like fabrics touching. Ugh.

And I have this vintage rocker to work on. I picked it up at a yard sale and need to reupholster the seat.

My family room redo includes a bit of a patriotic theme. I didn’t want to go kitschy or country. This fabric I bought for the rocker may be a bit over the top….

I also have closets to clean……

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Churn Dash

It’s done! Remember the sad quilt that hubby bought me for my birthday? I took it apart and it has been requilted and bound. Here are a couple before shots to refresh your memory.

And here are a few when the quilting was done.

Time for a bath. Yuck! The batting and backing were brand new so all this yuck is from the top.

It took two plain water soaks, one with Restore and Dawn dish soap and a few more rinses, but, wow, what a difference!

I used unbleached muslin for the backing and Quilter’s Dream Request 100% cotton batting. I used a stencil available from Fun with Barb to mark the fans.

The binding is a vintage fabric from my great aunt’s stash. She would have been 101 this year!

It was rather dark and cloudy so my photos aren’t the best. I’m just glad I got some before the rain came!

I enjoyed many hours of quilting this beautiful top. It was a birthday gift that keeps on giving!

Have a great day!

Den Haan and Wagenmakers

Daughter #3 and SIL went to Amsterdam to celebrate their anniversary. Guess where they went? Den Haan and Wagenmakers Quilt shop! I went there when we visited Amsterdam 19 years ago. Here are some photos they took.

They went to one other quilt shop as well. And yes, they picked up some goodies for me. Aren’t I lucky?

Have a great day!

QOV # 16 and 17

Here is QOV #17 made by Kathy D. It was the last quilt for Harry and me. He went to his new home on Sunday.

I love this top. It looks like denim! Here is the back.

This is the pantograph that I used.

This is top #16 and it was pieced by Lynda. I used the very same panto on this one.

I love this one too!

Have a great day!

QOV #15

This top was put together by Cheryl. Members of our Stitching Sisters group made the blocks and brought them to our meeting on National QOV Sew Day.

This is the pantograph that I used to quilt it.

Have a great day!

April/May Goals

Here is a look back at the goals I set for myself for April:

1. I’d like to finish my vintage churn dash quilt. Done! I will share this soon.

2. Quilt any QOVs that come in. Done!

3. Finish the t-shirt quilt commission. Done!

4. Get the top made for my nieces wedding quilt. Not done.

5. Baby quilt and crib skirt for grandbaby #5. Done!

6. Make a little quilt from Pinterest inspiration to use as a swap quilt. Done!

What else did I do?

I made a baby quilt from orphan blocks.

And I did a whole lot of DIY, thanks to help from Daughter #2.

On to May.

1. I must start and finish the wedding quilt for my niece.

2. Quilt any QOVs that come in.

3. Make one item from my Pinterest boards.

4. Make a pillow for a grad gift. I’ve had the pattern for 9 months now. 🙄

5. Finish the Quilt of Valor that I started piecing last fall.

Have a great day!

New Old Project

A few years ago, a very sweet blog reader, Jan, sent this vintage piece to me. She had picked it up at a garage sale. I absolutely love this!

I must admit, this piece confuses me a bit. It is a bit like a giant pillow case. It clearly had batting in it at one time. See that ric rac across the top? The blocks on the sides appear to have been cut in half. Perhaps the top and bottom half blocks as well. I sure wish it could talk and tell me its story!

I love, love, love these fabrics!

It doesn’t really have a binding and doesn’t seem to have ever been quilted.

Yet. I believe this will be my next hand quilting project. But first, I need to do some disassembly and rework it a bit.

So I will be doing some slow unstitching today. I think in the process, it will tell me what it wants to be.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ 30s Baby Quilt

This was a fun, quick little finish. Just what I needed with all the DIY going on this month.

And I felt quite virtuous using up these orphan blocks!

I’ve had this vintage fabric in my stash for years and it turned out to be perfect for the back of this little quilt.

My machine finished bindings still need work. I plan to get a good lesson in August when my fiend Zenia from A Quilted Passion comes to visit. She’s the master at this!

Have a great day!

QOV #13

This gorgeous QOV top was made by Val. Those little stars are pieced!

I love this panto and felt it really suited this quilt. But I remembered halfway down the first row that I don’t love quilting it.

You would think it would be simple, but for some reason, I have a heck of a time following it!

At the end of the third row, I had to change bobbins. I didn’t realize until I had done another three rows, that I grabbed a different color bobbin. I had to walk away for a few hours while I pondered ripping out those last three rows. I decided it would become a pattern. I quilted three rows with light gray in the bobbin and then three rows with dark gray, switching back and forth until I got to the end. It is hard to see in the photo above, but it is more obvious close up.

This panto has a fair amount of backtracking in the words and I just couldn’t bring myself to spend hours and hours ripping it all out. So sorry, Val!

If you are so inclined to try this panto for yourself, it is available from Urban Elementz .

I often have people ask me about patterns when I show these Quilts of Valor. I’d love to help, but since I haven’t made the tops, I don’t have any pattern info. Sorry I can’t help with pattern names!

Have a great day!

30s Baby Quilt

I decided on this green for the alternate blocks of this quilt.

It’s now pieced together and on the frame.

I’m using a warm gray thread for the quilting. I love Glide thread from Hab and Dash.

This is the panto I’m using. It is available from Urban Elementz .

I was getting low on my stash of baby quilts so it will be nice to have this one ready to go.

Have a great day!
