Our pastor and his wife have grown their multicultural family through adoption. Such a beautiful thing! Their youngest son turned one year old on September 1st. Days later, they received a phone call informing them that his birth mother just had a baby girl. The birth mom requested that they adopt this sweet baby as well. Their instant response was YES! Can you imagine? They have three weeks (now two since they learned about this a week ago today), to get paperwork filed, fingerprints processed, and funds gathered. Most people have nine months to prepare, imagine only three weeks! Of course, I’m making a quilt. These are the fabrics I’ve chosen.
They are selling T-shirt’s to raise money. The shirts have this verse on them:
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Psalm 127:4
You can purchase one here if you would like. They are cool shirts and well designed!
Given all of that, I had to make an arrow quilt for this little one. I didn’t have a pattern so I’m making it up as I go. Here’s the start. I strip pieced the pink and white strips (they are cut 1 1/2 inches wide), then folded the strip set in half, right sides facing. Then when I cut the 45 degree angles, I had two pieces in mirror image.
I drew a pattern to paper piece the arrowhead. It took a few tries to get it to look right.
And voila! The rest of the quilt will be easy. Good thing, the shower is next Monday!
I can’t wait to meet and hold their fifth “arrow!” Don’t feel obligated, but they have a Go Fund Me page set up here if you would like to help financially that way. You can also just click that link if you would like to read more about their story.
Have a beautiful day!
