Designing a QOV

I have several people I’d like to present Quilts of Valor to this fall. I have one done, but need to get going on two more. I had leftover blocks from the mystery quilt that I participated in last fall and they match this panel.

In this photo, you can see the whole panel. I never liked the faux patchwork on the ends so I would cut those off, I think.

Hmmmm…..have to think about this one.

Have a great day!

Iceland Miscellanies

This is my last post from our trip to Iceland in April. This is a little restaurant in Reykjavik right on the harbor.

Everyone sits at long skinny tables. The food was incredible! Especially the lobster stew. This is kind of a fast food sort of place. There are NO McDonalds or Starbucks in Iceland!

A lighthouse in Reykjavik.

An abandoned house on the hike to a waterfall. Of course, we went in!

This was odd and a bit creepy!

The water Iceland is the best in all the world!

This soda confused me until I realized it was grapefruit.

A great bakery….

…with a wide variety of options!

There are very few billboards in Iceland making the scenic drives even better. We did see this kitcshy couple at one intersection.

You should eat breakfast at a magnificent waterfall at least once in your life!

Loved seeing these old Jeeps!

The great thing about camping is that you bring your kitchen with you. We made soup in a parking lot for lunch one day.

More confusing soda! It was delish!

Ummm….okay….

Icelanders LOVE their ice cream. And if you taste it, you will understand. So good!

Bonus is a chain of grocery stores. I love visiting grocery stores in other countries!

The famous red chair is just off the highway on the east side of the country.

Everyone has to stop and take a photo!

These little vanilla sandwich cookies were amazing! Good thing we don’t have them here!

Another must have snack. Yummmmmm….

I hope you have enjoyed these posts. It has been fun for me to look back. If you are looking for adventure, I highly recommend visiting Iceland.

Have a great day!

Dollhouse Chronicles

Another week, another tiny quilt. This one is hand pieced and hand quilted. It is finished, but unfinished.

Here’s a look at the back.

It is unfinished because I made it to go into my tiny quilt frame.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Bow Tie

And it’s done!

And I’m thrilled with how it turned out!

E1 decided to help me show it off. 😊

Crosshatching is not the easiest on a longarm, but I love how it turned out.

The rest of these photos show how it looked after washing.

The backing and binding came from some vintags pieces from my Great Aunt Celia’s stash. She passed away three years ago at 99.

I love how this turned out, the crosshatch quilting isn’t that fun to do, but the texture is amazing and it was just right for this little quilt.

Have a great day!

July/August Goals

Time to look back at my goals for July.

1. I want to cross another item off my UFO list. Done! I finished my Thistle quilt and the Melon quilt.

2. I want to make progress on my hexie project. As Big L says, nope, not.

3. Get a hand appliqué project done . Yes and no. I got what I planned done, but now I’ve expanded the project.

4. Quilt five QOVs. Done!

5. Ten string diamonds. Not done! I’m seriously falling behind on this.

What else did I do?

I made this little square in a square quilt.

And this Bliss baby quilt.

This little mini.

And this baby quilt UFO.

And one tiny dollhouse quilt.

I didn’t travel as much as expected so that helped progress.

For August, I would like to:

1. Quilt 5 QOVs.

2. Finish the bow tie quilt.

3. Make a couple more dollhouse quilts.

4. Tackle at least one more UFO.

5. Get caught up on my string blocks.

6. Make a QOV.

That should keep me busy! Have a good one.

Bow Tie Progress

I squared up all the blocks to 6 1/2 inches. I received a few incomplete blocks with the top I purchased so I pulled out a piece of vintage green and finished those uptoo.

This is my planned layout.

I’ve decided to go with this blue for the alternate blocks.

It’s almost time to start thinking about the quilting! Have a great day!

Playing

I was straightening up in the sewing room and came across this basket of solid scraps.

I decided to take a break and play a bit.

No idea where this is headed. Perhaps back in the basket!

Have a great day!

Bow Ties

Remember When I bought this on eBay? I loved the bright blue blocks, but when it arrived, I found they were poly/cotton. 😕

So I decided this would be deconstructed. I don’t want to buy fabric, so I’m auditioning some that I have.

I have it all taken apart now and the poly has been banished. I need to square up the blocks and replace a few pieces before I make a decision on the background.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

This little quilt frame might my favorite dollhouse piece. It came with this bit of preprinted patchwork. I had to change that!

I dug through some bits and found these tiny leftover hexies.

It shouldn’t take too long to finish handpiecing a big enough piece to go on the frame.

That’s my plan for today! Have a good one!

Dollhouse Quilt

You knew it was coming!

I made this little quilt with 1 1/2 inch cut squares.

This little die from Accuquilt worked a treat for this.

It started like this.

Then I turned it on point like I did the hourglass quilt.

I tried to keep the quilting simple so it wouldn’t get too stiff.

I used a one inch strip for the single fold binding.

Barb at Fun with Barb gave me this great tip. Using pins to keep the quilt shaped to the tiny bed. These are brass so they won’t rust.

And here is this room so far!

Have a great weekend!
