DWMonday

After traveling, I always seem to struggle to get back into the sewing groove. I looked at my UFO list and realized I STILL had batik strip blocks, so I decided it was time to use them up.

I grabbed this older purple from my stash and cut it up.

I thought I might lay this out differently than before.

Nope, not working for me. Back to the same old, same old.

I still have more of these blocks so tune in tomorrow for my next trick.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Sometimes, you just have to break the rules. Rules like quilting before binding.

I have not finished quilting this, but I added the binding anyway. I did have all the quilting around the outside edges of the quilt done before binding.

The mister and I had some traveling to do and I wanted to work on this. By adding the binding, I could trim up the edges and either quilt or hand stitch the binding while on the road.

I wish I could remember what this green fabric is and where it came from. I love it!

Have a great day!

Adventures with E

Mr. Wonderful and I took a trip to visit both of our moms. At the last minute, we decided to take E1 with us. I’m so glad we did.

We had to have pictures taken with the Hodag.

I got a chance to visit with my lovely friend, Zenia, from A Quilted Passion.

We had lots of golf cart rides around the farm.

We are on our way home today, so I’ll post more later.

Have a good one!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Jelly Roll Quilt

I feel like I should call this quilt, Make Do.

Notice any issues? I didn’t have enough of one white so I used two. They matched well inside, when I took the quilt outside, the difference was quite obvious. I am happy with the quilting.

I made do for the backing with some very old stash pieced together. But then I loaded the top wrong and ended up short. So that piece I was considering for binding became part of the backing.

Then I used the cut offs from the backing to make the binding since I couldn’t find anything else that worked. Part of it is blue and part is the stripe. I ran out of thread while applying it, so I grabbed the closest thing at hand to finish (it was navy).

I love the design, but this quilt sure fought me. It’s going to get folded up and do time in the closet for now. Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

Nothing new, so I thought I’d bring back a few of my brighter pieces to share today. Enjoy!

Have a great day!

Improv

Remember these?

I’m still messing with it in odd moments.

Nothing too exciting yet, but I have more strips, so I’ll keep adding here and there. Sometimes it takes a while for an idea to really take flight. Honestly, sometimes they never do.

Have a great day!

Court House Steps Turned Log Cabin

I got this far and had to call a time out. I even ripped it out.

Put the pieces back in order and gave it a think.

And played a bit.

I like this next one best so far.

I never intended to reproduce the little quilt I saw exactly, but I still have no idea where this will end up yet.

Have a great day!

Courthouse Steps

I saw a little antique quilt on Pinterest.

I loved it and decided to make my own version of it using this die.

I love this die. I feel like it is a must have if you want to make log cabin blocks.

I didn’t want 12 inch blocks, do I only used half of the die and cut these.

Not bad, right?

Except that court house steps blocks don’t use all the same pieces. They use all the odd bits, 1 1/2, 3 1/2, 5 1/2 etc. I could use the leftover bits for something else, but I’m not sure what.

Back to the drawing board. Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m still quilting this vintage 30s hour glass top. It’s hard to find a good place to photograph it in progress. I don’t know if you can tell, but I start around the outside when I quilt fans and work my way in to the center. This is contrary to most advice, but I find that when I baste well on the long arm, I don’t have any problems doing it this way.

Perhaps you can see better on the back. You can tell I have help!

I just have a couple fans and the outside edge will be all done. At that point, I will have 52% of the quilting done. Yes, I calculated it. I’m a bit of a number nerd.

I love how the back looks.

But the texture is not as pronounced on the front. I’m used to quilting twice as close, so this is a bit of a let down for me.

The good news is that this is so much faster than my normal quilting! Have a great day!
