A New Old Top!

I opened my mailbox this week to the most delightful surprise!

My dear friend, Zenia, was given this quilt top along with some others. She sent me pics of it asking for quilting ideas and I immediately fell in love and began plotting to make my own.

Before I started cutting, she gifted this to me. How sweet is that? She is the kindest, most caring friend.

I love this little patch.

It’s a tough one to photograph, the colors seem to glow! This last photo is the truest in terms of color.

This top has shot to the top of my To Be Hand Quilted list! I feel so lucky!

Have a great day!

Pinterest Finish

None of the stencils worked out on my little quilt. I just couldn’t get them lined up quite right. So I just added more crosshatching. As it turns out, you can hardly even see the quilting anyway.

I decided to use a single fold binding. As you can see here, a single width of fabric strip was just enough!

I need to do this more often on little quilts. It looks so much better than a bulky double fold. Here are photos before washing.

And after washing.

I love this little quilt! It finished up at 8 3/4 by 11 1/2 inches after washing.

Have a great day!

Pinterest Inspiration

I found this sweet little quilt on Pinterest and decided to make my own version.

I love this pink with the shirting fabric.

I briefly considered just sewing it together like this.

I think I want to use one of these stencils in the strips.

I still have quite a few items left on my vintage fabric sale posts from yesterday, in case you are interested. I will be posting whatever is left on Instagram at the end of the week.

Have a great day!

A Quilting Rabbit Trail

Amelia Brown’s Rooster Medallion finally got her turn on the frame!

I even started quilting. But I was not loving it.

I was feeling really stumped here. So I turned to Pinterest and got lost in the world of Welsh quilting. Oh. My. Word!

I might need this book.

I will be starting my virtual garage sale this morning with a couple posts full of vintage fabrics for sale.

Have a great day!

A Few PSAs From Willy

It’s my birthday! I’m two years old today! I knew you needed to know this! That’s the most important PSA.

Look how cute and little I was the day I got adopted!
And I still am one handsome little guy. At least that’s what my momma tells me.

She also wanted to tell you that she will be hosting a virtual garage sale soon. She will start with a post listing vintage fabrics this week.

And a very cool Accuquilt Live event is coming up on Tuesday. It will be a virtual tour of the International Quilt Museum! Click here to register.

That’s all for now. I’m off to chew on my new bone. Have a great day, everyone. I know, I will!

Love, Willy Boy

Slow Stitching Sunday

All of my slow stitching lately, has been focused on the Ladies Aid BOM, hosted by Barbara Brackman. I’m now caught up and waiting for the next block to be released on August 1st. Here is block three.

I really struggled with those tight inside curves and points. Block 4 went a little better.

I wish I had left off that strip of ground though. Here are all four together.

The pattern has little hearts in the corner of each block to creat a secondary design. I’ve never been big on hearts, but I like the idea of the secondary design. I’m thinking about adding leaves in the corners.

Have a great day!

This and That

I finished taking apart this quilt top. Now I need to figure out if I have enough of the green I like for alternate blocks.

I ordered more QOV labels from Spoonflower. These should last me a while.

Mr. Wonderful’s Plumeria is blooming. It smells divine!

E3 liked his Jeep quilt!

Finally, a book recommendation. This tells a bit of what happened to many survivors of the German concentration camps immediately following the war.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Maple Leaves

I have a fun finish to share with you this week. This top belongs to a friend of my mom’s. I think it was made by an aunt in the 1970s. She asked me to finish it for her.

The colors in the following photo are a bit more true.

I used a pantograph called Tendril on it. I also bound it by machine. This time, I stitched the binding to the top, then folded it under and stitched in the ditch, catching the binding on the back.

This is what the back looks like. I had to go back and restitch a few spots where I didn’t catch the fold.

She sent a flannel sheet along for the backing. This will be a very cozy quilt!

I hope to get this mailed back today.

Have a great day!
