October Wrap Up

It doesn’t feel like November here in the southwest, but my calendar says it is, so it must be! Time is passing so quickly, that I didn’t even realize that last night was Halloween. I was totally unprepared and didn’t even have candy on hand.

Anyway, here is a look at my finishes for this month.

Most of these were WELL underway before the month began. I wonder what November will bring!

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I made some decent progress on this last week. I now have 12 of 15 blocks quilted.

I know, it’s really hard to see. It also very wrinkled from being in a bag.

But that dumb seam shows up well!

Someone suggested appliqué by a strip over it. I think that is a great solution.

Have a great day!

Hiking

I love hiking in Arizona! We went to Lost Dutchman State Park with Daughter #2 this week.

It was gorgeous!

Ahhhh……so good to be in the desert. 😊

Have a great weekend!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Chimney Sweep

One more UFO is off the list! I actually finished this a few weeks ago, hence the photos with green leaves! I was originally thinking this would be a big quilt. I have to remind myself that not everything has to be huge.

I had a really hard time getting photos with accurate color. I’m quite happy with the quilting on this one.

Here’s a look at the back.

Hopefully after looking at the next three photos, you can mix them in your mind to get an idea of what it really looks like!

The last one shows it hanging in its new home in my foyer.

Have a great day!

Throwback Thursday

I’m bringing back an oldie today. I purchased this as a vintage top ages ago. I hand quilted it in the fall of 2017.

The quilting is simple, but dense. That’s just how I like it!

This top has quite a bit of fading, but I love it.

Have a great day!

Arizona!

We are home in Arizona!

And it is every bit as beautiful as I remembered. We are still getting settled in.

I had lots of blog posts written and scheduled ahead of time, but I probably won’t ever get caught up on responding to all of your recent, sweet comments. I did read them all and will try to answer questions soon.

The pups were awesome little travelers, but they are very happy to be home too.

Have a great day!

Land That I Love QAL

Lori at Humble Quilts recently held a quilt along. I always join in on these! She does a great job and I always end up with something I love. Here are my blocks.

If they seem a little bit big, they are. Lori made 6 inch blocks and I made mine 8 inches. I did that because I had pieces cut that would work, but they were bigger. Works for me! Here is the layout.

Lori’s blocks are much scrappier than mine and I like hers better. But I still love this enough that I’m thinking about making more blocks!

It’s my favorite color combo!

Have a great day!

Basket Progress

I ended up using the vintage purple solid for the setting triangles. I think it works.

I like it, but not enough to hand quilt. The baskets were machine pieced and the handles were appliqued by machine as well. So I loaded it up on the long arm.

This is getting my wonky crosshatch. It fits these wonky blocks.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

The quilting has begun, though not without issues. All of my own doing. 🙄

It doesn’t show up real well in these photos.

I now have five of the fifteen blocks quilted.

My backing and batting are barely big enough. I had several blocks quilted before I realized I had a seam on the back of the backing facing outward. Ugh. I’m soldiering on and will figure out what to do with that later.

Have a great day!

Jumbo Scrappy Star

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen most of this already. A couple weeks ago, I took a free online class from Emily at Em’s Scrapbag. She shared a free pattern for her Jumbo Scrappy Star.

I have lots of solid scraps and decided to play along. It was a bit harder than I thought!

I started with the design above and then totally scrapped it and tried the one below.

I went back to the star, with a different layout.

Finally, I just sewed it together with this Kona Steel that I bought for a different project.

I’m mostly happy with this. I think I’ll love it after quilting.

Have a great day!
