Little Red Baskets

The appliqué didn’t take as long as I expected! After I got this far, I started thinking about borders.

I pulled these three options from my vintage stash.

I chose one and finished the top. And the quilting has begun!

Come back Friday to see this finished. ☺️

Have a great day!

Little Red Baskets

I’ve been having fun playing with this project. Here is the template I made for my baskets.

It was traced from the pattern in this magazine.

The quilt and pattern are by Lori from Humble Quilts.

Here are my baskets cut out and ready to fuse.

Ta daaaa!

I shouldn’t kid myself, I still have all the stitching around the baskets yet to do.

I cut all my leftover fused scraps into circles with my die cutter.

These are the dies I used.

Hmmmm….perhaps they would add a touch of whimsy….

I’ll have to think more about that.

This is the fusible I use.

It’s available at Walmart quite inexpensively.

Have a great day!

Vintage Quilts Part 2

Here are the rest of the quilts I spotted at the antique fest.

Gotta love double pinks!

I love this border!

This caught my eye from afar, but it was a tied cheater quilt.

This one had lovely embroidery that was not colorfast. So sad!

This was probably my favorite!

The most darling crib quilt ever!

Oops…these butterflies are upside down.

Polyester double kit quilts are showing up as antiques!

I have one more to share with you. But it deserves a post of its own. It’s the one I brought home. 😊

Have a great day!

Binding

I said yesterday that I would share more about the binding technique I used on this little quilt. I really want to do most of my binding by machine from now on to save my hands. I was pleased with how this method turned out.

I started by cutting strips 1 3/4” wide and joining the end to end. This is single fold binding. I machine stitched my binding to the front of my quilt as usual, using a 1/4” seam allowance.

Then I pressed the binding fabric away from the quilt. Turn the quilt over and press the binding, turning under the seam allowance as you go. I have never used these clips before, but they worked really well for this.

I flipped the quilt over again, and stitched in the ditch as shown below.

This is how the back looks.

I learned about these clips from Jo at Jo’s Country Junction.

They are available through Amazon.

Hope this helps!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Chains

I finished this pesky little thing! Several of you said an appliqué center was the way to go. I have to agree that would have looked best. But it just wasn’t going to happen this week. So it became a strippie.

I had a terrible time trying to get a photo with accurate color. It really isn’t this bright! I still haven’t gotten the cable quilting right, but it’s closer.

I made a single fold binding and had just enough of that print to do it. I’ll share that process in another post. I used unbleached muslin on the back.

Here are photos after washing.

It perfectly fit this doll bed, so I’m calling it a win.

Have a great day!

Vintage Quilts

Mr. Wonderful and I went to the local antique fest over the weekend. I found some lovely quilts! I particularly loved this first one.

I love how these old wool quilts look, but I’m never tempted to bring them home.

This was a great display! I’d love that frame.

Oh, this one was SO tempting!

Love the colors and prints in this one.

The edges of this was hemmed and it appeared to have been use as a spread. I loved it, but it needed do much work.

I have more to come! Stay tuned!

White Scraps

Remember these?

I decided to cut as many 6 1/2” squares as I could out of these bins.

I will use the basket pattern from this little bit and make basket blocks.

Perhaps the different whites will add interest.

I will make these with the machine appliqué technique that I learned in Lori’s class. This vintage crib quilt was my inspiration for this project.

The appliqué will probably take me a while.

Have a great day!

Leftovers Part 2

I knew this would make a great border, but I just could not come up with an idea for the center.

So I decided to try a strippie setting.

Nope. That didn’t work. Maybe this….

Better, but the proportions are too far off and I don’t have any more the that print.

Nope, nope, nope…

Better, not great…..my seam ripper is becoming a good friend….

I’m about to give up on this mess!

Have a great day!

Leftovers

I made this little quilt last summer when the AccuQuilt Crossroads die came out.

I had some leftover bits and pieces.

I thought they would make an interesting border.

I just need to figure out what to put in the middle.

Have a great day

Slow Stitching…..or not….

I haven’t done any knitting in ages, but decided to make a simple dishcloth as a hand project while sitting in the back yard during family visits.

I soon remembered why I haven’t knitted in a long time….I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand four years ago and I now have issues with my left hand as well.

It’s gotten worse of late. I love knitting. I love hand quilting. I love riding my motorcycle. But all these things take a toll. I haven’t been good about continuing to wear the wrist brace at night on my right hand and now I have one for the left. I also tend to binge quilt and that aggravates things.

I’ll finish the dish cloth (a row at a time!) and then I’ll set the knitting aside again. I want to start a new hand quilting project as well. I’m holding off on that too.

I want to ride my bike this summer. My rides are shortened by the carpal tunnel issues, but this is what I want to use my hands for. The hand sewing and knitting will have to wait.

I’m also going to keep long arming, but I’m going to get back to wearing my antivibration gloves when I do.

I’m starting PT for shoulder issues this week. Ugh! But I’ll do pretty much anything to avoid another shoulder surgery.

I am so very grateful for my die cutters. Rotary cutting must be kept to a minimum and my die cutters have allowed me to keep sewing.

So, Slow Stitching Sunday will also be set aside in favor of something else. I’m sure I’ll come up with something! Maybe Die Cutting Sunday?

Take care of your hands, quilters! Don’t binge quilt as I have done!

Have a great day!
