Finish It Up Friday ~ Quilt of Valor Top

I finished my first Quilt of Valor top from the  Minnick and Simpson Polka Dots and Paisleys jelly rolls.

I am using the leftovers from both of these jelly rolls for another QOV top that I will share soon.

Have a great day!

A Tiny Project Finish

I’m not a huge fan of paper piecing, but I was offered some of these and I grabbed a couple packages. Turns out it is a good little in between project to use some tiny scraps.

And I did have some tiny pieces of these fabrics.

I only had enough foundations for 12 blocks. I’m not sure my attention span would have been any longer anyway. A couple episodes of Foyle’s War and this was done.

I kept the quilting simple do as not to obscure the tiny 1 3/4 inch blocks.

This is my favorite block!

My piecing is rather wonky. Oh well.

I just turned excess backing to the front for the binding.

Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday ~ Casket Blocks

You may have thought I had forgotten these.

I have not. However, hand sewing out here has not worked well for me. Every time I sit down, these two hooligans think I did so just to throw tennis balls and give belly rubs!

So I have decided to machine piece this. It is slow going when you don’t work on it often!

I do like where this is headed. I wonder how much I can get done before I get back to Michigan.

Also, many of you asked where you could get a “Cotton Picker”, here is a link.
Have a great day!

Tuesday Tip

I was whining to my friend, Zenia, from A Quilted Passion, one day about threads on my design wall. She told me about this nifty little thing and then bought one for me!

You just wipe the threads off with it!

Here is a before:

And after:

Pretty cool, right? Thanks, Zenia!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Coins QOV

Thank you all for the kind words regarding the safe return of Daughter #2 from her deployment. I’m overjoyed to say the least! And to make our weekend even sweeter, Daughter #3 flew in at the last moment to surprise her sister! I will be spending this week with family before heading home, but as they say in all the cooking shows, here are some blog posts prepared ahead of time! I’ve scheduled posts ahead for the week. But I won’t be online much to respond to comments and such.

Today I’m showing you my plan for the second QOV I’m making out of the two jelly rolls I had of this:

For this one, I was thinking of making a version of the old Chinese coins pattern.so I started making panels like this.

I wanted to incorporate all the pieces I had left, so some strips are pieced. I think it adds a lot of interest. I realized that I had enough leftovers to piece the whole top like this.

I like where this is headed! I may or may not add borders. Time will tell.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Shenandoah Stars

Way back in July of 2014, I visited Missouri Star Quilt Company for the first time. While there, I bought this FQ bundle of Shenandoah by Nancy Gere.

I finally cut it up and started piecing sawtooth stars from it in 2015.

I finally have these blocks altogether! Not an imaginative setting, and I will likely add a border before quilting , but they are all in one piece now!

The blocks finish at 8 inches and at this point, the top measures 72 by 80 inches. I have enough fabric to cut a few more blocks, but I’m not sure I can make myself do it.

Have a great day!

Phoenix Quilt and Craft Festival

I had the best time last Saturday attending this with four wonderful ladies! And yes, the shopping was awesome. Here is my loot:

Fat Quarters

Love this half yard of green!

These next photos show half yard bundles. Eleven half yards for $34.95!

But the very best part was being welcomed into a wonderful group of friends and enjoying the time spent with them.

Have a wonderful day!

January/February Goals

Time to look at my goals again. This is what I had planned to do in January:

1. Finish the grad quilt top. Done!

2. Finish the puzzle quilt top. Done! But I can’t show this one until it is gifted.

3.  Start that top using my Quick Curve Ruler. Not done.

What else did I do?

I finished my Denyse Schmidt HST top.

I finished that blasted Shenandoah Stars top and will share that finish on a Friday.
I finished the Small Quilt Talk challenge Quilt.

And I made a mug rug.

Now to plan for February. I’m not sure how to even start! Daughter #2 should be home soon. My priority is to spend time with her before I head home sometime this month. I won’t buy my plane ticket until I see her at home! Too many things can change in the military!

Here are a few things I would like to get done this month.

1. I want to finish the top I’m making from these blocks. It will be a Quilt of Valor.

2. I had two of these jelly rolls and I have a quick and easy idea for using up the rest of this in another Quilt of Valor.

3. I plan to make a baby quilt top from these mini charm packs and some Kona gray.

After I get home, I want to quilt up a couple of the small tops I’ve made while I’ve been here in Arizona. I’ve missed my long arm, Harry. It is time for us to get reacquainted.

Have a great day!

Progress

Thanks to all for the lovely comments on this project! I have all the blocks for my Minnick and Simpson QOV done already!  They went together very quickly while listening to my audio book.

This is my favorite block.

I have 30 blocks done. These blocks finish at 10 inches. I will add a border as well. And my next audio book is ready to go as well!

I have really enjoyed every David McCullough book I have ever read/listened to.
Have a great day!
