How to Make a Baby Quilt in 20 Minutes or Less

I have you intrigued, don’t I? 😊

First of all, you have to have your pieces cut ahead of time.

And from there, the entire quilt top is pieced in 5 to 20 minute increments. Okay, so you can’t make a whole quilt in 20 minutes, but you can do it in little bits of time and it adds up!

First, add a sashing piece to each square of a charm pack. This should take 15-20 minutes at most.

When you have another 5 minutes, press these parts.

You can add cornerstones to sashing strips in about 10 minutes.

Five for pressing.

Five to ten minutes for layout.

I have loads of housework today so this is the perfect project to fit in between chores. I’ll post an update soon.

Have a great day!

Visible Mending?

Have you heard of “visible mending?”

The idea is to mend something in such a way that the repair itself becomes something celebrated rather than hidden. I like that idea. If you Google visible mending, you can see many lovely examples. I decided to try it out in my own simple way on a pair of favorite jeans.

No fancy stitching here, just a running stitch with very thick thread outlining my patch. But as I stitched, I pondered the concept of visible mending. It’s a lot like redemption in my eyes. God can take those ripped open, broken places in our lives and mend them. I don’t think His goal is to make it like it never happened, but to make it better. To make it beautiful. So that others can see that though we once were broken, now we are healed and whole. I realize many of us have hurt places that are not yet mended, or they are in process. I know that’s true for me. Seeing the healing in others, brings hope.

I may or may not add more stitching. It’s a project that has been more satisfying than I expected. And I think I have more to ponder here.

Have a great day!

Notebooks for My Littles

While talking to Big L and Little L last week, they told me they wanted notebooks. Well, Nana can fix that! I made these notebook covers and embroidered their names on them. Y embroidery machine and I don’t always get along, so they didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked, but I don’t think my boys will care.

I sent along a few extra composition books for when these are full.

I even remembered to add my Nana tags!

I sure do miss these two! Have a great weekend!

Finish It Up Friday ~ French General

You may remember that back in January, I purchased this quilt top from my local guild’s Trash to Treasures sale.

I finally got around to finishing it up.

I added borders and quilted it with a panto from Urban Elementz called Andi’s Wandering Feathers.

Here is a look at the back.

I’m still working on my machine binding!

I love this texture!

Have a great day!

TBThursday

Here is a very old finish! I’m not sure exactly how old, but it was three houses ago so sometime before 1997!

I loved these fabrics and wish I had more of them! I quilted this with a walking foot and the whole thing is a bit oddly shaped.

The squares finish at one inch. Nice puckers in the back, huh? Haha! Some people say I shouldn’t point out my mistakes. But I’m all about being real. I think it gives others permission to do the same. And things don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful anyway.

Have a great day!

QOV #19

This lovely QOV was made by Lynda.

I used this panto from Urban Elementz .

I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to get this smooth enough, but I’m pleased with how it turned out. Here’s a look at the back.

Have a great day!

QOV

It’s QOV week again! I’ve missed quilting these. This one was pieced by Nadine. This pattern is called Stars and Stripes. You can see the tutorial by Missouri Star on Youtube here.

I was really glad to see this in person as it is on my bucket list!

Isn’t this backing fun?

Off to load another. Have a great day!

Red and White

This is another beautiful quilt pieced by my friend, Donna.

I learn something with every quilt and this one was no exception. The backing is batik and I hadn’t done a quilt like that in a while. I had to do a bit of ripping in the beginning, but once I figured things out, it was smooth sailing!

I needed to use a size 18 needle and loosen the quilt on the frame a lot. Then it was easy peasy. This is the panto I used. It is from Urban Elementz . I loved every the texture it gives!

Have a great day!
