Finish It Up Friday ~ 36 Patch

Today I’m sharing my finished 36 Patch quilt with you! It has 72 blocks that finish at 9 inches each.

The small squares each finish at 1 1/2 inches.

The quilting was all done freehand on my long arm, Friday.

The prints on the front are all from various Denise Schmidt collections.

I just love the texture from the quilting!

This is one of my favorite finishes ever and my friend was thrilled.

Have a great day!

Quilting Decisions

I got my Good Will top loaded. I know, there are so many other projects I should be working on.

Anyway, I’m currently trying to decide how to quilt this. These are the options I’m looking at.

This next one might be too busy.

Hmmm….decisions, decisions….

BTW, all of the above designs are available from Urban Elementz and that is an affiliate link.

Have a great day!

Another Fun Find

Hello everyone! I’ve spent the last several days visiting family and just got home last night. So, while it looks like I’ve been busy in the sewing room, those recent posts were scheduled ahead.

I am very excited to share with you this happy find though.

This quilt top is huge! Almost 84 by 100 inches.

I’m guessing this dates to the early 1980s, but it does contain some fabrics that date back as far as the 50s. Most are probably from the 60-70s. The blue floral edge piece in the next photo is just like a blouse I wore as a freshman in high school which was 1979.

This was entirely hand pieced and very nicely done. So I just couldn’t leave it there.

Here is the price tag.

I’m looking forward to quilting this one up!

I’ll try to get caught up on comments soon. Have a great day!

36 Patch UFO

I know it seems like I’m flirting from one project to another lately! But I pulled this out to finish it for a friend.

Of course, I decided only two days before it had to be done. But that’s how I roll!

I wanted to make it bigger so I had to add a row of blocks. At least I had done some cutting ahead of time.

I did have this on hand for backing.

Now, what to quilt? I used a piece of plastic placed over the quilt top to try a few things out.

This is the pen I used on the plastic.

Come back on Friday to see how this finished up!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Minimalist Quilt

The fabrics for Daughter #3’s quilt came. These are Moda Cross Weaves. They are just beautiful.

Even the trimmings are pretty! But they do fray.

Daughter #3 is a bit of a minimalist. Is that an oxymoron? 😄 She chose the palette and I chose the fabrics. She wanted something minimal and stripey. The blocks below are not pieced, the strips are just pinned in place. They will finish at one inch wide. The black cos are twenty inches square.

I wish I had a bigger wall. There will be 25 blocks and I need more room to play!

I may have to resort to using these. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Seven Sisters

Progress has been slow, but there is progress so that’s a good thing.

I think I’ve completed 8 fans now.

Mr. Wonderful made dinner for me the other night. It was the best chicken pot pie I’ve ever had!

I’m so spoiled!

Have a great day!

A Different Kind of Finish

As you know, I’ve been working on my card catalog project this week. Just to remind you, here is a before photo.

After a lot of sanding, painting, and such, here is the finished project.

I purchased the hair pin legs on Amazon. The fabric for the top is a drop cloth purchased at my local big box home improvement store. The foam was recycled from a no longer used cushion.

I’m not totally happy with the top. The corners aren’t great, but I wanted to make sure there were no sharp corners with the littles around.

I think I will really enjoy using this in place of our old coffee table. It is great for putting your feet up and it has great storage for remotes!

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Ebay Doll Quilt

I was perusing Pinterest yesterday morning and came across this quilt. When I clicked through the link it brought me to this auction page. It appears this sweet quilt just sold. I loved it and decided right then to make my own version.

I made extensive use of this die and my Accuquilt studio cutter.

After making strip sets for the blocks, I used the same die to subcut my units.

It didn’t take long at all to make my blocks, even though I made six instead of four.

Here is my pieced top.

One of the things I loved about the little vintage quilt, was the quirky quilting. I quilted mine in a similar fashion. After I started adding the binding, I decided it needed more quilting.

Bad idea. Very bad.

Since it was already off the long arm, I had to finish with the walking foot on my domestic machine. After adding a little more in the cross hatch area, I had to add more in the diagonals. Ugh. I finally quilt and put the binding back on.

I need to learn that sometimes less is more.

A good wash helped, but I really wish I hadn’t added more quilting.

The back is a hot mess for sure.

But it doesn’t look too bad on my little bed!

I guess I’ll keep it.

Have a great day!

Card Catalog Project

Early this summer, I picked up this card catalog at a garage sale.

It took me some time to decide what to do with it, even though I’ve always wanted one.

The first step was disassembly and removing hardware.

Then sanding. Yuck!

Finally came painting.

This is the paint I used. It is a flat black and ended up giving a great satin finish.

I ordered some short legs to add to the bottom and I plan to upholster the top.

Time to shop for some fabric. Have a great day!

More Minecraft

I’m having fun with these Minecraft blocks. Although, honestly, I’m not sure I would know what most of them represent without looking at the pattern! This one is supposed to be a cow.

A pig.

A character called Ghast.

Zombie.

That last one is not stained, I dribbled water on it. I needed some black Kona for the sashing so I picked that up from JoAnn’s and at the same time, I found this green for the binding and the black and green for the backing.

I’m feeling good about my progress. Four more blocks to go.

Have a good day!
