QOV #30 Started

I wanted to get this done yesterday, but I only got started.

This is the panto I’m using. This panto comes as a standard 10 inch width, but I special ordered it in a 16 inch wide width.

I really love this top! I have a pile of four patches and might have to use them in a top like this.

And why didn’t I get this done? Because this handsome man came to spend the night. He loves to play with my toy Jeeps.

Have a great day!

Getting Back to the Sewing Room

Daughter #2 left early yesterday morning. It’s always hard to see the kids leave after a visit. Now it’s time for me to get caught up on things. I have the first QOV of the month loaded and I hope to get it quilted today.

I realized I hadn’t shown you the second quilt that I finished quilting for my friend.

I love how this turned out. Time to get to work. Have a great day!

October/November Goals

It isn’t quite the end of the month, but since I don’t foresee any more finishes, I might as well look back at the goals I set for myself for October.

1. Quilt QOVs. Not done yet. But they will be done in time for the meeting on November 10th.

2. Start a quilt for my family room. Done and not done. I finished a quilt for my family room, but it wasn’t the eagle quilt I’d planned on! I did finish my Abe and Friends quilt from the Humble Quilts QAL.

3. Get the top of the I Spy quilt done for Little L. Not done, but at least I have a plan now!

4. Finish the top for the quilt for Daughter #3. Not done. This may end up on the back burner for a while.

What else did I do?

I quilted two small quilts for my friend, Zenia.

I made this housewarming quilt.

I made two pair of pj pants.

I finished the tie quilt!

I also had four out of town trips and Daughter #2 was Home for two weeks.

Time to make some November plans.

1. At the top of my list is the I Spy quilt for Little L.

2. Quilt 5 QOV tops.

3. Finish the Military Mystery top.

I also want to get all my Christmas shopping and prep done by the end of November, so I’m not listing any more sewing goals than that! Wish me luck!

Have a great day.

DWMonday ~ I Spy

I finally decided on a quilt for Little L for Christmas. It will be an I Spy quilt. I’ve collected these squares of novelty fabrics to use.

I found the pattern I wanted to use in this book.

Here it is!

Not only is it perfect for novelty prints, but the design creates a maze. Now to decide on background and path fabrics.

Have a great day!

Much Ado About Nothing

I’ve talked a bit before about “nothing” fabrics. I love them and I’m always on the lookout for them. This binding fabric that I used on my Abe and Friends quilt that I shared yesterday was made from a nothing fabric. In fact, that’s why I made 16 yards of binding for a 26 inch square quilt! I know I’ll find a home for the rest of this binding soon since it goes with nearly everything.

Here are a few more fabrics that I call “nothings.”

Let me define this for you, since as far as I know, I coined the phrase. A nothing fabric is something nondescript. It will often read as a solid at a distance. They are never large scale prints, never flashy, never ever show stealers. They seem like nothing compared to most fabrics. But they play a very important role as the supporting cast.

What do you notice first when you see this bundle? The pinks? The blues? The reds? Of course! But they stand out because of the neutrals, the nothings.

There really aren’t any nothings in this next bundle. As a result, it looks more chaotic than the last. They are lovely fabrics, to be sure. However, to really make them shine, they could benefit from a good nothing fabric.

My all time favorite nothing print is in this small quilt, though it isn’t used as a nothing here. Can you spot it?

In this next photo, I’ve used it as a binding. This is without a doubt, the most useful fabric I’ve ever owned. I wish I had a bolt of it. Sadly, I used the very last bit in the little quilt above.

The background fabric in the following quilt is another good example of a great nothing. It is an unobtrusive print that points TO the focus fabrics instead of drawing your eye away.

Nothing fabrics may seem boring, but they are what makes the other fabrics in a quilt sing. I’m always on the lookout for these fabrics. You may want to watch for them too. And when you bring yards and yards of this home and your husband asks what you bought, you can just say, “Oh, nothing.”

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Abe and Friends

Lori from Humble Quilts posted the last clue in the Sajou Quilt Along last week and today is the big link up! Click that colored link to visit her blog and see all the quilts made by those that participated. I’ve changed the name of mine to Abe and Friends. I think you can see why!

Here is a look at the back.

Just for fun, here is Lori’s inspiration quilt.

Mine turned out quite a bit different! But that is the fun of taking part in a quilt along. I love my little quilt and I never would have made it if Lori hadn’t gotten me started. So, thank you Lori!

Have a great day!

Another Little Quilt

Daughter #2 is still here, so I’m sewing in little bits here and there. I did start working on this little top made by my friend, Zenia, from A Quilted Passion .

I love this block! Again, she used just this one die from Accuquilt .

I’m using this panto from Urban Elementz to quilt this top.

I love how this looks!

Have a great day!

Progress

I finished the quilt for my friend, Zenia, and loaded another for her.

Before that, I finished my Sajou top and got that quilted. Now I need to decide on binding fabric. These are my top choices right now.

Have a great day!

A Little Quilting

My friend Zenia from A Quilted Passion made this cute top that I’m quilting today.

I’m using this panto from Urban Elementz .

I don’t know that pattern for this top, but it looks like it could all be made with this chisel die from Accuquilt .

Feels good to be back at the frame!

Have a great day!
