Stitching Sisters’ QOVs

I’ve been working on Quilts of Valor for my Stitching Sisters QOV group this week. As usual, I’m just quilting these and have NO info on patterns. this first top was pieced by Pat.

The panto for the above quilt is called Worm Trails and I had it custom made to be 16 inches wide. It is available from Urban Elementz .

This next one was pieced by Mary Kay.

This panto is also fromUrban Elementz and it is called Amoebas Gone Wild. I also ordered this one in a 16 inch size.

Finish It Up Friday ~ And So It Goes

I finished this up Wednesday night and planned to take pictures Thursday morning. Mother Nature had other plans.

I headed to the west side of the state Thursday afternoon to visit Daughter #3 and it was raining when I left home, so I took it with me hoping for better weather along the way. It rained almost all the way there. But about ten minutes from her house, the clouds parted, the rain stopped, and I was able to get pics on her fence!

The quilting lines are very close. I’ve heard this called matchstick quilting. It takes forever, but I think it’s worth it for a piece like this. I used a facing instead of a binding to finish the edges.

There is a local art show coming up and this will be one of my entries. I need to get moving on the other one!

Gosh, I love her fence!

FQS Quilt Along ~ Union Square Remix

I’ve been working on another Fat Quarter Shop Remix project. I’m using these fabrics from al older Paula Barnes line called Carolina Blues.

I used these dies from Accuquilt along with my die cutter to cut my pieces.

Here they all are! I love a pretty pan of pieces!

And here are bits of the first few blocks.

These take a while to make, but I’ve enjoyed the process.

Around and Around

I decided to play with these free pieced curves.

There are so many things you can do with them. Piecing them is easier than you think. Maybe I’ll do a tutorial. Not that I’m an expert, but I’m getting better at it.

Just doing it 16 times, you learn a few things.

This is not the final layout….at least I don’t think so.

DWMonday ~ Bits and Pieces

Sometimes, staring at a bin full of fabric can be about like looking at a blank piece of drawing paper. You suddenly freeze and can’t think of where to even start! So in looking through my hand dyed stash, I pulled out some bits and pieces that I had begun and abandoned for one reason or another.

I need to pick one and just start messing around and see where it leads.

The Hand Dyes are Calling…

Way back when I started this blog, I used to do quite a bit of hand dyeing of fabric. I still have quite a stockpile.

I love dyeing fabrics, because you never really know what you will end up with. There is a huge element of surprise.

I want to get back into working with these again.

I can’t believe how long it has been since I dug through these bins.

Finish It Up Friday ~ Album Quilt

Done! And I’m thrilled with this small quilt.

I love the texture that Baptist fans give. It seems the one quilting design that works on everything from antique to modern quilts.

I kept with a plain backing, mostly because I was in a hurry and didn’t have to piece it.

I put scraps of some of my favorite fabrics in this quilt.

And I’m really happy with my faux border created by using a different fabric in the alternate blocks around the edge.

And most of all, I’m glad I had the self control to stop and not make this any bigger. It is the perfect size for hanging in my family room.

TBThursday ~ Vintage Hexies

I had totally forgotten this quilt until I pulled it out of the closet. I remember piecing it while flying to and from Paris to look for housing in August of 1997, the very week that Princess Diana died. We did find a house to rent that week and we lived outside of Paris for a bit over two years.
