DWMonday ~ Sajou

The last clue for the little QAL hosted by Lori at Humble Quilts came out last Wednesday. We were to add triangles around the outside edge, like this.

This is what it would have looked like. I wanted Abe to not lean quite so much, so I decided to add enough triangles to boost him upright.

I cut into this long hoarded layer cake….

…to make corners like this.

I used this die from Accuquilt to cut my triangles.

So this is where I’m at now. It doesn’t feel finished, but my goal is to get it done by Friday.

I think Lori felt bad that some people would have their centers a bit off kilter as mine was. I think it is a good thing. While my quilt has veered off from the quilt along plan, I’m making something I love. And I never would have made this had I not joined in the QAL. It feels like one of those alternate ending deals. I’m not the only one that went down a bit of a different path. You will get to see the others when Lori posts the linky party on Friday.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

Someone on Instagram issued a 50 day hand quilting challenge. This was just the kick I needed to get back to it!

I’ve also made a very tiny bit of progress on my hand appliqué project.

Looks pretty bad in this picture, but only a tiny bit of that big leaf is done. So hopefully it will improve.

Have a great day!

No Sew Saturday

Daughter #2 is in town for a visit, so I’ve not taken any time for sewing.

I’ll get back into the sewing room soon enough.

Have a great weekend!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Housewarming Quilt

The housewarming quilt is done and gifted. Some quilts just come together so quickly and easily, and then there is this one. 🙄

I used my modern wave pattern boards to quilt this.

Even that I struggled with. Nothing went smoothly. But that’s just how life is sometimes.

You might remember that the person this is for said she liked teal, purple, and blue. I managed to get all three of those colors in the binding. The color in this next photo is off, but I had to share that mothered corner. It was my one victory here.

in the end, it got done. And I learned a few lessons along the way.

Have a great day!

This and That

I found this panel recently. It will go on the back of a quilt for Little L, who is fascinated with the planets.

E2 decided he needed a tag for his back pack since E1 had one.

I made a few jars of salsa.

And I made pj pants for Little L….

And Big L.

And I remembered to add my tags!

I picked up this book recently. Lots of great ideas here.

Have a great day!

Something New

I’ve been wanting to make a quilt like this for ages.

I even bought this die from Accuquilt to help me out!

BTW, there is a GO! version of the die also.

Since I’ve redone my family room in a patriotic theme, I’ve decided it is time to get to it. I cut out the pieces below, but I’m not sure this is the final version. Should the feet be blue? Maybe I should add some navy.

I need to see if I have some navy to try out with this. The background will be white and I’m thinking about a sawtooth border.

BTW, if you use this link to Accuquilt, you will get free shipping on orders over $25. And yes, these are affiliate links.

Have a great day!

Military Mystery Clue #5

Here are the pieces for Clue #5 for the Military Mystery hosted by Alycia at Alycia Quilts.

I used this Accuquilt die to cut my 2 1/2 inch strips and then sub cut with my rotary cutter and ruler.

This is how they go together.

Simple half log cabin block.

I’d like to say I’m done with this clue, but I actually have another 18 blocks to finish. Better get moving!

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Changed my mind…..AGAIN!

Remember that housewarming quilt? I had a plan, changed my mind, made another plan, changed my mind…. I decided to open this fat quarter bundle.

I came up with this improv piece.

I wasn’t sure I liked it and thought about doing this instead.

Since I was really running out of time, I just went ahead and put it on the frame.

I did get this done in the nick of time. I will share this finish on Friday.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching

Have you been waiting on pins and needles since last Sunday to see what appliqué project I chose? Wait no more, I chose Thistles.

Excuse my sorry looking ironing board cover. I use freezer paper temp, ages to prepare my appliqué pieces.

Then I placed everything on the background. You can see I chose to use a different vase.

This is how far I got on my last trip. I hope to finish the appliqué on this one.

I didn’t pay enough attention to fabric placement on the vase. I might have to redo that bit.

Have a great day!

The sewing went very quickly as well.
