An Epic Adventure ~ Part 1

Two weeks ago, Daughter #2 and I and the two grand dogs began our cross country road trip from Michigan to Arizona. After over a year in Texas, she decided to move back to Arizona. Bambi wasn’t too excited about packing. 😁

We left a day earlier than planned to get ahead of a fierce winter storm.

First state, Indiana!

It as freezing, but the girls stayed cozy.

It was dark driving through Illinois, but it made for a great view of the Arch when we hit Missouri.

We didn’t let the girls drive too much.

Next up, Oklahoma! And yes, I missed the sign. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Then Texas!

It’s the state of the nicest rest stops.

Winnie was unimpressed.

Bambi wasn’t either.

We stopped outside of Amarillo to see the world famous Cadillac Ranch!

We were still freezing! More trip photos to come.

Have a great day!

Beautiful Boys

I had a great time with my two Arizona boys. Today I am flying home.

This guy’s idea of a great time is going to the local home improvement center.

We spent a lot of time exploring area parks. The weather was wonderful for that! I miss them already.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Vintage Broken Dishes Mini

This was a fun little project!

I washed this little mini after finishing. I love the wrinkly look!

You may notice that the binding is wider on the back than the front. I used leftover binding bits and it was cut wider than I really wanted. I was too lazy to cut it down so I just stitched close to the edge and pulled it farther to the back.

My little quilt finished at about 11 inches square.

Have a great day!

TBT ~ The Way Back Files

I unearthed some ancient quilts while cleaning closets. I think this one was the second quilt I ever made. It was with leftover poly/cotton pieces from the first. It’s only about 20 inches square.

Here’s another very early piece. Somewhere, I had gotten these pieces of decorator fabric samples. Clearly, it could have benefited from more quilting!

I made this for Mr. Wonderful and he had it hanging in his office for too many years.

I think this was my first (and maybe last?) quilt made from following a magazine pattern.

This is the newest of this bunch. I was finally finding my style.

I’m not sure what to do with these. I wouldn’t use any, except possibly the tumbler. They take up space, but I can’t quite bear to throw them out or drop them at the thrift shop.

It is good to look back and see how far I’ve come. Have a great day!

Vintage Broken Dishes

I’ve cut all my little vintage blocks apart. I started by rotary cutting along the seams.

Then I used this die to cut smaller triangles.

My new blocks will finish at 4 inches.

Have a great day!

A FMQ Experiment

I was talking to Daughter #3 recently about fabrics with great texture. She was thinking about a linen quilt. Linen seems to have a reputation for fraying. I’d like to try it on a small project before committing to a bed quilt with it. I had some extra backing at the end of a quilt I finished and decided to see what would happen if I quilted a cheap drop cloth from Zmenards.

These photos show the before and after washing shots.

These cotton drop cloths are pretty stiff when New, but washing softens them and I do love the texture of this.

I used red thread because that is what was on the machine. Here are the photos of the back.

I’m still intrigued by this. I may pick up another drop cloth and think about a who,e cloth quilt.

Have a great day!

String Along Update

I met my string block quota for the month already. I thought I’d see how they look without background.

I didn’t have enough blocks for the following arrangement, but with a little photo trickery, I was able to get an idea of how this would look.

I still think I like this best.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Sunday

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I haven’t been home this past week. Daughter #2 and I took the grand dogs on across country trip from Michigan to Arizona. I’ll share more about our trip later, but this is the project I worked on while on the road.

I’m glad to be past the deconstruction phase of this and back to putting it together again. I’ve got more posts scheduled this week, but may run out before I get home so don’t worry if you don’t hear from me!

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Update

Still working on the two inch four patches.

This looks like a lot, but I still have a long way to go.

According to my notes, I have 575 done and need a total of 1152.

I’m going to need to get cutting though. My bin of 1 1/2 inch squares is getting low.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Little Basket Quilt

I’ve finished my little basket quilt!

It actually ended up larger than a lot of my little quilts. It is approximately 25 by 29 inches, too big for my doll bed. Here are some pics before washing.

The vintage black coat I started with had this one brown stain on the corner of the basket.

When I took this photo of the back, I realized I missed a line of quilting.

Here are after washing pics.

The stain is lighter, but definitely still there. I’m okay with that.

I machine quilted this on my longarm, Friday.

Have a great day!
