I finished my little quilt and it fit my little bed perfectly! I still need to make a pillow someday.
I actually added full borders and quilted this on the long arm.
Then I cut out the corners.
The binding was a bit tricky and turned out a little clunkier than I would have liked.
But it is done and I like it.
After I posted the first pictures of my bed, I received a comment from a Joyce who had received one when she was a little girl. She was kind enough to share photos with me. You can see one of the finials laying on the bed.
Isn’t this lovely? You all were right when you said I had a canopy bed!
Joyce’s sister, Susan, also received one and she sent me pictures too!
Love the bedding!
Thank you so much to Joyce and Susan for sharing your little beauties with me. Someday, I hope to fashion a canopy for mine. I think I can do it with the help of your photos.
Have a great day!
I’m really enjoying the dollhouse and beds posts.
You have such a nice doll bed and the quilt fits it perfectly in size, scale, and style. How interesting to see the canopy style beds too. I looked for a doll bed in a couple antique malls last week but found nothing.
Darling.
It gets better every time you share. Can we all come for a visit to see the final product? š
OMG! I love it! I wondered why the original mini quilt didn’t have a top border. That is perfectly clear to me now. I was wrong in nixing the choice of fabric for the borders. It’s perfect. You have the eye of an artist. You can see the finished product in your mind’s eye. I don’t have that talent. Great job, Katy.
Absolutely perfect! I loved all 3 of your border choices so you couldn’t lose, but this one is the best! I loved the photos of the other beds. I figured it was for a canopy. We had one when we were little too. My friend Jeanette Lasansky did an article on what some people refer to as “T shape” (in Maine we call the 4-poster shaped) antique quilts and found there were more found in Maine than anywhere else in the country. Old habits die hard here, and they are still making them this way on many of the islands.
You are brave cutting out those corners–this is so cute…nice work hugs, Julierose
Your little quilt is perfect for your bed.
