Finish It Up Friday ~ Snowballs!

My first UFO finish of the year! Winslow had to get in on the action here.

I think Baptist Fans were a good choice on this.

Why is it that no matter how hard you try, you still end up with like fabrics near each other?

This one doesn’t have a home yet, but I’m sure it will let me know where it wants to live. Until then, it is resting in one of the guest rooms.

Have a great day

Finish It Up Thursday ~ Little HSTs

I love making little quilts!

This was pieced in an afternoon and quilted that same night. All the scraps used in the top are vintage. The backing is unbleached muslin. The binding fabric is new. It finished up at about 7 by 11 inches.

We often think of antique fabrics and quilts as being dark and dull, but many were actually quite bright.

The last two photos show this little quilt after washing.

Have a great day!

A Little Something

I’ve been sorting through my quilting books. This takes forever because I have to stop and look at each one! I rarely follow patterns, but I get lots of ideas. I love this quilt on the cover.

Here’s a better photo.

I though this would make a great mini made out of vintage scraps.

I used these dies.

This is so fun!

You’ll be seeing this finished soon. Have a great day!

Small Quilts 2019

Warning! This is a long, picture heavy post! These are all the small (smaller than baby quilts) finishes for me for 2019.

I just love making these small quilts! I’m sure there will be many more to come!

Have a great day!

Rethinking the Snowball

I’ve decided that I’m not going to make any more blocks for this quilt. I will add a border, not for size but because I think the design needs it.

I really like this top, but I’ve realized that it hasn’t “scratched the itch.” I’ve been asking myself why. I love the quilt shown below and bought this issue of American Patchwork and Quilting because this was on the cover. I rarely do that.

The pattern is available for purchase from their web site. I love the pattern, but even more, I love the color choices. For my version, I was using up some layer cakes and scraps and as long as it was civil war repros, I threw it in. It is a great top, but not the one in my mind’s eye.

I want to do this one again. Next time, I will use red, white, blue, black, and a handful of double pinks.

Have a great day!

Vintage Star Top

I have decided to set aside knitting for a while in favor of hand quilting. I’ve put off quilting this top because it needed a few repairs.

Like this:

This was the closest I could come to a matching fabric. Not perfect, but it is a faded scrappy top so it will do.

Here is one of my repairs. I think it looks worse in photos.

I hope to get this basted so I can start quilting today!

Have a good one.

Dollhouse Chronicles

Today I am sharing a few more finds from the recent sale that I attended. I found dishes for my mid mod dollhouse! They are a little big, but I love the color.

Would you like to come for coffee?

I thought this table might fit in my cabin.

I was very tempted, but I left this dollhouse behind. It was very well done.

And this doll….sigh…. I loved her and all her beautiful clothes!

All hand stitched. I don’t know why I am so drawn to vintage toys. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Four Patch

You probably guessed that this is what I was making!

I don’t know where I got this solid fabric, not the color or brand, but I wish I had bolts of it! All other fabrics are vintage.

This backing was a fine lawn from the stash from my great Aunt Celia. She would be 105 if she were still here.

I was inspired to make this from a quilt I saw on Pinterest. For a change, I was able to track down the original designer who had shared it on her blog. You can see it here.

I made mine bigger to accommodate the little bed at the top of the post.

This shows you what it looked like before washing.

Have a great weekend!

Snowball Update

I’m still working on my Snowball blocks.

I decided I should take stock of how many I have. So far, I have 100 blocks sewn.

I have another 30 cut out.

I match up snowballs and triangles in batches and then sew in groups of 6-10, depending on the time I have. I’ve just been sewing a few here and there between other things.

I have enough for a good size throw quilt. I’m trying to decide if I should stop with these, add a border, or cut more and go for a bed quilt.

Have a great day!

Large Quilts 2019

I didn’t make any really big quilts last year. I’ll have to remedy that in 2020! Here are the lap, throw, twin size quilts that I finished this past year.

I’m happy to say that 7 of the ten have been gifted. I try to make sure I give away more than I keep. Otherwise, hubby and I would lose one another among piles of quilts!

Have a great day!
