Grrrrr…..

I can’t believe I did this. My friend, Donna asked me to quilt this lovely piece for her.

She chose the perfect panto for it!

I love how the quilting turned out.

This is the one I used from Urban Elementz .

When I pulled it off the frame and looked at the back, I saw this:

It’s a landscape print and I loaded it upside down! It should look like this.

Good thing my friend is a good sport about it. You can bet I will watch that more carefully next time!

Have a great day!

Hawaiian Memories

I bought a bunch of fabric when we visited Hawaii some years back. I made one quilt and then chopped up must of the rest into these rectangles.

I decided I needed to see what kind of distribution I had so I sorted them out.

Apparently, I added some Australian, African, and other fabrics into the mix. I’m not sure I have enough variety here. Hmmmm…

This one may have to percolate a bit longer.

Have a great day!

A New Leader/Ender Project

Well, not completely new….this was on my UFO list this year.

I had these parts leftover from a twin size quilt I made a few years ago.

I keep my leader/ender projects in my desk drawer so they are easy to grab..

At this point, I’m only sewing enough to use up the solid aqua pieces I had cut.

This should make a nice sized baby quilt. After that, I’ll think about what to do with the rest of the batik rectangles.

Have a great day!

Little Jimmy

Remember this little guy? My mom got this doll for Christmas in the forties. All that was left was his head.

But look at him now!

Not exactly a “restoration.” I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do. His body was rubber filled with shredded foam and it disintegrated into a big, gooey, melted mess over the years.

I finally bought a kit for one of those “Real Born” dolls. Looks creepy, right?

I watched some YouTube videos on assembly and then did things my own way, as usual . I filled the limbs with these poly beads because that is what I had on hand. They are a real mess to work with!

Then added a bit of poly fil to keep the beads in the limbs and to fill the body. You use zip ties to secure the silicone arms and legs to the cloth body.

His body looks too narrow! But the limbs seem to be the right size.

And now he can be held again. This vintage baby dress fits perfectly.

You may recall that Judy gave me a lovely vintage hanger to display this dress on. It did not go to waste!

Dear Ila sent me this vintage child’s apron and I was about to go looking for another vintage hanger for it. Now I don’t have to. Isn’t this adorable?

I’m so pleased to be able to display my mom’s doll. I sent her photos and I think she was pretty happy too.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Scrappy 4 Patch

After over a year, I can put a fork in it because this quilt is DONE!

This is the pantograph I used to quilt it.

I knew the quilting wouldn’t show much in the center, but I wanted it quilted close enough that there was at least one line of stitching over every single piece. This quilt has 4,860 pieces in total. The smallest squares finish at one inch.

I also wanted a pantograph that would make a good border design in the brown borders.i think the blue binding frames it nicely without clamoring for attention.

I listened to a good chunk of this while binding. I haven’t finished it yet, but it is very good so far.

This quilt is for me. It measures 98 inches square so there is a generous drop on my queen sized bed.

This next picture shows about 2/3s of the quilt. It isn’t easy to find a good place to photograph a quilt this big!

Scrap quilts are my favorites!

I’m way behind on responding to comments and for that I apologize. Life has been busy since returning from AZ and I was driven to get this quilt finished this week! Thanks for following along even when I get behind.

Have a great day!

That Green Fabric

I went to an estate sale at this gorgeous house last fall. It was a thrill just to walk through it.

Here is the back.

It was owned by a very prominent family in our town. I picked up this bolt of green fabric for $2. For the whole bolt!

It was wrapped in this brown paper with these notations.

It is a bit heavier than quilting cotton, but it doesn’t seem nearly heavy enough for upholstery fabric. But that color! I am chuffed to bits with how it looks with my tumblers.

I have it all ready to grab and sew.

I have no idea how many yards are on this bolt, but I’m certain I’ll use every single one!

Have a great day!

More Tumbler Fun

I spent some time laying out my tumblers.

I had cut these gray tumblers to alternate with the prints. But it didn’t sing.

I had a piece of a green solid on the design wall and threw some tumblers up over that.

Now it sings! Time to change the plan. I grabbed this die and cut green tumblers.

The best part of this change in plans, is that I no longer have leftover print tumblers! I am sure I’ll use these gray ones at some point for a baby quilt. They would look great with pink prints, or maybe aqua. They don’t feel like a UFO to me.

There is a story about that green fabric. I’ll share that soon. Have a great day!

This is getting exciting!

My leader/ender top is all done, except for the borders!

And here are my leftovers. Two 1 1/2 inch squares.

And 160 2 1/2 inch squares. I’m sure they will be handy for something.

Time to choose a border and get this monster loaded! I also need to come up with a new name. Hmmmm….

Have a great day!

SAS Fabrics

I made my pilgrimage to SAS Fabrics in Phoenix on my recent trip. I bought a bit under 25 yards total.

I loved these panels. The first is National Parks.

This is such a great fabric for Quilts of Valor!

I loved these African wax prints.

Cool label!

When I buy yardage, I always roll it up on a ruler and then slide the ruler out. This way my yardage all stacks neatly. I also pin a little note with the yardage amount on it.

My daughter snuck this photo of me fabric shopping.

This is the first time this year that I have bought fabric this year except for some wide muslin for quilt backs i purchased in January.

Have a great day!
