Slow Stitching Sunday

I’m STILL working on squaring this up.

I’m amazed how different it looks just Fran adding in the green hexies.

My goal for the week is to finish adding the green hexies so I can get this basted for hand quilting.

Have a great day!

This and That

It feels like every day is filled with miscellany. Is that even a word? Anyway, I left a sewing machine at Daughter #3’s house and she decided to make masks for herself and dear SIL. We had a lesson in bobbin winding via text.

That should have said holes, not homes.

I made my other SIL his own mask.

My babies!

Mr. Wonderful brought these home. They smell heavenly!

I listened to this last week. It was a fun “read.” I think Mike Rowe is a great guy.

Wendy recommended this series to me a while back.

I had to go on a waiting list, but it was worth the wait. Have a happy…..Saturday? Is it Saturday? I think so. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Finish It Up Friday ~ Sort of…

I was so hoping to have this finished this week, but my penchant for making huge projects has foiled me. I have gone through my stash and have nothing to use for a backing or binding. I don’t even have batting wide enough.

But a finished top is still progress, right? This is a queen sized bed so you can see how huge it is.

I have no place big enough to lay this out and get a full photo. Here is a quarter of it.

I have ordered fabric for backing and binding. I haven’t decided on batting yet. I’m bummed that this isn’t finished, but it is what it is. I’m very glad the monotonous piecing is behind me.

Have a great weekend!

Something New

I need to make a graduation quilt. I’ve been feeling rather uninspired about it. Actually, I haven’t felt very inspired quilting wise all year. It may look like I’ve been focused on UFOs, but that’s only because it felt easier to finish something old than to start something new. Not having any UFOs that felt appropriate for a young man, I was forced to the design wall. I started by pulling solids.

I started cutting bunches of 6 inch HSTs.

I didn’t count, just sewed any two that I grabbed. I narrowed my fabric pull considerably.

Okay, this is fun. But I don’t have enough triangles or I need to do something else.

Time to play some more! Have a great day!

Happy Mail!

I participated in a doll quilt swap on Instagram. I sent off the quilt I made a while back and yesterday, I received mine in the mail. It came all the way from Jayne in the UK.

How gorgeous is this? I was seriously giddy when I opened it! Those Hexies are tiny.

It is all hand pieced and quilted.

Isn’t this label pretty?

I feel very fortunate indeed to have received this beauty.

This is the quilt I sent to my partner.

If you have never done a swap, jump in when you see one going on. Such great fun!

Have a great day!

Neutral Scrappy Trips

The blocks are done!

Honestly, they got a bit boring to sew. A good audio book or three, helped. My design wall was too small to lay these out.

And I had plenty of help.

But the top is now in one piece. I’m not sure I have anything to use for backing or binding now so this may get set aside for a bit. I’ll do some digging in my stash before I put it away.

Have a great day’

Can you stand another?

Another mask tutorial? This is my adaptation based on available supplies and made to fit my husband. I started with two rectangles measuring 6 1/2 by 12 inches. For a woman’s mask, you could cut it 10-11 inches wide. I added a piece of fusible interfacing slightly smaller and sewed each long side. You can leave an opening for a filter in the middle of the bottom edge, if you would like.

Next, I turned them right side out and pressed.

I pinned my pleats in place and then stitched in place close to the edge.

Then I serged down the sides. (Yes, different mask!)

I used hair elastics and held them in place while sewing the casing.

Now that I’ve run out of hair elastics, I’m using this t-shirt yarn that I bought for a knitting project. I use a plastic yarn needle to run it through the casings on the sides. The loop on the bottom goes around the back of the head under the hair and then you tie the ends around the back of the head.

Hubby prefers the elastics, but he has one of each. Isn’t he a great model?

Nope, these won’t prevent COVID -19. But since everyone is wearing masks these days, I thought it might be helpful. There is no perfect pattern. You have to figure out what works for you based on what fits and what you have on hand.

Have a great day!

He is Risen!

No matter what is going on in the world today, it doesn’t change the fact that Jesus is risen. That changed everything! Happy Easter from our house to yours.

Slow Stitching Saturday

I’m making slow progress on this old UFO. The squaring off is nearly done on this end.

I will add another row of green hexies so none of the flowers touch the binding.

I counted out how many more hexies I needed and got to cutting. This turning mat was helpful.

We’ve had some really beautiful weather this past week and I took advantage of it.

It sure doesn’t feel like Easter weekend, but I thinking changing things up a bit isn’t all bad. We will have a drive in church service. The mister is cooking for us, and there will be plenty of time today for quiet contemplation on what Easter really is.

Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Madder Mini

I’ve finished my doll quilt for the swap! Except for the label, I always drag my feet on that part. Anyway, it was inspired by this backing fabric and a blog post by Barbara Brackman on madder prints.

I hand quilted it, but kept it simple.

This print could only be better, if there were dogs in place of the cats.

The prints are not all ladders, but I think they go well together.

I love prints like this!

I might have to make a quilt like this for myself.

Ta daaaaa!!!!!

I hope to get the label done and get this on the mail tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!
