Vintage TAW

The top is together! I used that estate sale green for setting triangles. I’m going to be really sad when that is gone!

And yes, there are some issues in the lower right. Given the myriad of block sizes, I’m surprised it isn’t worse! I’m most surprised at how well most of the points matched from block to block.

Most of the points are pretty decent. Except for a few like this.

I put the smallest blocks in the corners so I could “fill in” with oversized triangles. It ended up about 56 inches square with two blocks left over. I’ll probably make them into doll quilts.

Now it’s time to plan the quilting. I can’t wait to get this on the frame!

Have a great day!

Vintage Scrappy Trips

Remember these? They’ve been calling me to work on them.

I finally got brave enough to square them up. I use the term “square” rather loosely here….. they are a bit skewed and definitely not all the same size. I simply cut 1/4 inch away from the points. It was scary, but I had todo this before I could plan the next step.

I have 15 blocks. I’ve been praying with some layouts.

These are special blocks and I want to do them justice. I’m leaning toward the last layout, but I’ll have to think about it for a bit.

Have a great day!

Batik Progress

So I got the top together and as I suspected, it was just too narrow.

I went through the bins and gathered all the blue scraps I could find to make more rectangles. Quite a few look like this.

I was able to make two more columns and I’m much happier with it now.

Time to quilt!

Have a great day!

Slow Sunday Tieing?

This is a hand project, but not exactly sewing. I decided a while back to make a snuffle mat for the pups and finally got around to it. I got the sink mat at the dollar store and had this piece of fleece from a friend in my stash.

Cut a bunch of 1 inch strips and then cut them down to about 7 inches long.

I filled my bucket to do this whi,e watching TV.

Tie each strip through the holes in the mat. Simple!

A couple shows and it was done.

Here is the back.

Time to try it out. I sprinkled some kibble in and around the fleece.

They loved it!

They shared pretty well too. Have a great day!

More Miscellany

So thanks to all of you, I now know that miscellany really is a word! I’m running low on thread. This didn’t help.

Doesn’t she look proud of herself?

Daughter #1 made this Dutch Apple pie for us. It was incredible!

The mister and I visited the Es through the window. E3’s face is heartbreaking!

Not once, but twice this week we woke up to snow! Ugh!

It sounds like everyone is cleaning and organizing since they are stuck at home. Me?

Yeah, not so much. Have a great day!

Finish It Up Friday ~ Solid HSTs

Done! I am glad to have a true finish this week. I used what I had on hand for this quilt, so perhaps it should be called, Make Do.

After loading on the long arm and basting the edges, I quilted a wavy line down the first row of HST blocks. Then I echoed that on both sides all the way to the end, adding a curve here and there.

Individual lines don’t look great, but it’s the overall texture I was going for.

I like it, but I don’t love it. I like the piecing, I’m less happy with the quilting. I used leftover binding strips to finish it off, all by machine.

Here are a few photos taken after washing.

It does have the masculine look I was going for. Have a great weekend!

New Leader/Ender Project

Since the batik project is no longer a leader/ender project, it was time to get something new going. This isn’t totally new, I had started making four patches from these 30s prints last fall, even though I didn’t have a plan for them.

I finally got an idea. I used these Accuquilt dies to cut some of that estate sale green.

I had seen a Missouri Star tutorial for this quilt.

I liked it, but I felt like some of the print squares should be background. So I tweaked the idea a bit and came up with this.

This is what two blocks together would look like.

For some reason, the spring of the year always makes me want to dig out these 30s prints!

Have a great day!

Batik Rectangles

I found some more blue to go with my batik blocks.

Just not enough. This will make a quilt that is 48 by 72 inches. Hmmmm…. I’d like it to be a bit wider. But I also like having all the solid bits the same. I decided to sew this together as is and then figure it out. Here are my rows all prepped.

After I sewed the rows, I put them up on the design wall sideways, just to see how I liked it.

Nope.

I will have 80 rectangle blocks left over so I will be able to make at least one more quilt with these. This is for Hands2Help hosted by Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

Have a great day!

Leader/Ender Update

I’m really tired of making masks, and I think I’m done making them. So I cleaned up the mess from the last batch, and decided to do inventory of my leader/ender project to see where I was at.

I had 120 blocks done. And this is all the pieces I had left.

So I went ahead and finished those up. It was a perfect project for my tired brain. I ended up with 134 1/2 blocks.

You may remember that this was my intention for these blocks.

I won’t use this exact solid because I used it up in the HST quilt. I think today I will dig through the stash for something that will work.

Have a great day!

DWMonday ~ Solid HSTs

This has been a fun, quick project. It sure has morphed from my original plan. I would have preferred to have all the background the same shade of gray, but I’m using what I have on hand.

Now I’m trying to decide on quilting. I’m using an app called YouDoodle to draw on my photos. Here are a few ideas I’m considering.

I want this done this week so I need to make a decision soon! Have a great day!
