Road Trippin’

After a long trip in the truck, we are back in Michigan! We took the southern route on this map. It took us three days and we are still tired. I apologize for not responding to comments the last few weeks, but this is why! So many last minute things to do.

We made a quick stop to take Winslow’s picture in Winslow. She seemed pleased!

And a quick stop in Texas for BBQ and to see Cadillac Ranch.

We didn’t stop in St. Louis, but the arch is still a big milestone.

The pups were excellent travelers!

Ahhhh…..almost there!

We got home just in time to see the three Es on Easter Sunday.

They’ve grown so much! Have a great day!

Cake Mix Redo

I changed my mind!

After playing a bit with my pieces….

I decided to go with a slightly different block pattern

So I ripped and redid the first two.

Eventually, I think I will add alternate plain blocks. I’m not sure of the name of this block, sugar bowl maybe? Anyway, I like it and it felt like a good fit for this fabric line. It is all feed sack repro prints.

As much as it pains me to leave a project in the middle, that is exactly what I’m doing with this one. I’m leaving this in Arizona and will pick up where I left off when I return.

Have a great day!

Cake Mix

A couple years ago, I won these layer cakes from a giveaway.

I also got this Cake Mix pad.

These are pretty cool. It’s part foundation paper piecing and part traditional piecing.

You layer two 10 inch squares right sides together and pin a paper on top.

Sew on the lines and remove pins.

Cut apart on solid lines. You can see they are an efficient use of a layer cake.

Remove papers, sew the parts together and voila! Two seven inch blocks, perfectly pieced.

Have a great day!

Jelly Roll Fence Rail

I decided to make a Fence Rail quilt with this jelly roll. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with jelly rolls. They are convenient, but do you follow the peaks or valleys to determine the edge? I never know. So I like to trim them with my die cutter.

See the extra on this? Not all jelly rolls are this bad, but I’m glad I trimmed this one. Now they will match with the white strips I cut.

It takes two print and two plain strips to make one of these 16 inch blocks.

It’s a simple design, but one I’ve wanted to make for a while. It will only take 20 blocks for a 64 by 80 inch lap quilt.

Have a great day!

Jelly Roll Project

I bought this jelly roll from Tuesday Morning a long time ago. I finally opened it. It turns out, there are 8 strips each of five different prints.

I thought I might use them with this yellow I just picked up, but it isn’t quite working for me.

I might have to go with classic blue and white for this one.

Have a great day!

Scrappy Strips Top

I haven’t forgotten these.

I have almost no repro yardage in my AZ sewing room, but decided this solid cheddar was perfect.

I love it!

Now to think about how I want to quilt this.

Have a great day!

Slow Stitching Saturday ~ Enjoying the View

I’m still working away on this hand quilting.

There are so many great fabrics in this!

I wish I had bolts of these!

I don’t think I’ve seen any repeats yet.

There are lots of make do patches.

Have a great day!

Improv UFO Finish

I left these pieces on the wall to think about for a while.

I was putting away scraps and this cheddar caught my eye.

Hmmmm….maybe add some red or green?

I don’t have any black thread here at the moment. The black fabrics don’t match. I’m calling that a design decision. It was designed to prevent a trip to the fabric store.

Ta daaaa!

That was fun! Now, if anyone has s great name for this, let me know. Have a great day!
