I decided to quilt with my very imprecise cross hatch. I quilted lines all in one direction, then took it off the frame and loaded it the other way. I’m in the process of doing all the lines that way now.
Harry 2 is working out really well, especially since I received an order of my favorite thread.
I gotta say, I sure love the view from my sewing room and being able to sew with the windows open is amazing!
I do not know why, but I don’t seem to get any hand stitching done out here. I have plenty of handwork I could do, I just haven’t done any.
Maybe it’s because every time I sit down, I have 1-4 dogs in my lap.
I mentioned the loss of my sewjo, I turned to the scrap bins looking for inspiration yesterday. Specifically, this bin of strings.
I don’t know where this is headed, but the mindless piecing was enjoyable.
I have spent much of the past week working with EQ8 and Inkscape, learning to write patterns.
I rarely use patterns myself, so it’s been quite the learning curve! I’m toying with the idea of offering a few downloadable patterns here on the blog.
What can I say? This room is continually evolving. I really do think it’s done for the near future though.
I mentioned before that I didn’t like the mismatched, messy look. I found a matched set of wire basket units on a local sale site and snapped them up! I purchased some tops from IKEA. Now I’m happy with my fabric storage!
I turned around and sold the mismatched pieces and nearly covered the cost of this. I like that I have a work top to use when pulling fabrics.
I also found this piece at Goodwill.
It’s a classroom storage unit. I’m using it for my scraps. They are sorted into size and shape.
So here is a round the room tour. The fabric storage is behind the long arm.
I recently sold my old Bernina 1030, because I found this barely used 1090 for a bargain. It still had the original needle packet with it. And it fit perfectly in the cabinet I had the 1030 in.
I’ve felt a bit creatively stuck recently. I’ve had some deadlines that are now mostly met. I’m hoping some serious inspiration hits soon.
Have a great day!
PS Accuquilt is running a great deal on dies right now.
Don’t forget to use the code, DIES40, at checkout!
I finished this a while ago, but just got around to taking a few photos.
I like the piecing, and some of the quilting. I realized while quilting that I don’t have Harry leveled quite right. That caused some ugly, out of control feathers on the top border.
Yikes! Looks like I have some work to do getting the frame adjusted.
Mr. Wonderful and I enjoy thrifting. It’s the thrill of the hunt I suppose! He was initially a bit unsure when I found this though.
Very 1980’s, wouldn’t you say? But I saw some potential. I walked to the other side of the store and picked up a different shade. I donated this one back at the checkout. Total bill? $7.
Next we headed to Lowe’s for a can of spray paint.
After a good clean and a bit of disassembly, I was ready to paint.
Ta daaaaa!
Ignore the newspaper underneath, I didn’t want to set it directly on the table until it was cured for a few days.
I’m quite pleased with this little project! Mr. Wonderful loves it too. 😊
I bought two of these charm packs a couple years ago and thought I had a great plan for them.
I used my Accuquilt die cutter to cut them into 2 1/2 by 4 1/2 inch rectangles, which left very little waste.
I thought I’d use these Accuquilt dies from my 8 inch Qube to make puss in the corner blocks.
These make 8 inch blocks. I wanted to alternate them with this chrome yellow.
Now, I’m wondering if I would like this better if I made 6 inch blocks. These feel huge to me. I’m going to have to think on this before I move ahead.
Before I go, today Accuquilt is releasing a new die during their Live event! There will be giveaways of dies and fabric from Northcott. Click here to register.
Happy New Year! Mr. Wonderful was on vacation for the last several weeks and that means very little sewing has happened. I had scheduled all my blog posts ahead, but have not kept up with responding to comments. Here is a project he helped me with while he was off.
I’ve been using a couple of these flannel design wall sheets from Fons and Porter here in AZ.
But I like being able to pin things to my design wall and I wasn’t happy with how flimsy these felt. So I finally got around to replacing them with help from Mr. Wonderful.
We bought two 8 foot lengths of this extruded plastic trim from Home Depot and screwed them to the wall 7 feet apart.
I covered each of two one inch thick pieces of foam insulated board with Warm and White batting. I stretched it and held it in place with pins, then I used duct tape to secure it to the back of the board.
Next I added two inch wide strips of Self Adhesive Velcro to the trim pieces on the wall and on the back of my foam sheets.
This is the Velcro I used.
Time to hang them up!
Now I just need a step stool to reach the top. 😁
I used the trim pieces so I didn’t have to stick the Velcro directly to the wall board.
I hope this helps if you need to make a design wall. Have a great day!
