The first couple years when we came to Arizona, I kitted up projects to work on out here. Now that nearly all my sewing stuff is here, I’m kitting up projects to take back to Michigan.
This is how I do it. First, I go through my saved ideas and pick out projects. Next, I screenshot an idea or import a picture from EQ8.
I create a Note on my iPad as shown below.
I decide on a size and figure out what I need to cut. It is kind of a shorthand pattern for myself. Then I grab my dies and cut.
Put it in a bag and it’s ready to sew!
The hardest part is saving it to sew later. I’ll kit up bigger projects as well.
Mi was asked to share more details on how I long arm quilted my strippie quilt.
I used two templates and a straight edge. This curved ruler from HandiQuilter was used for the feather spines.
This circle template was used for the pumpkin seeds.
This is how I did the feathers. I used the wave temp, ate and went left to right to create the spine (blue line). When I got to the end, I freehand quilted the feathers on top (green line). I just use simple feathers, backtracking on each one. When I get back to the left hand side, I use a straight edge and stitch in the ditch between strips (yellow). Then I travel down to quilt the feathers on the bottom. I don’t have to break my thread at all this way.
For the pieced rows, I start with the pumpkin seed. Follow the red line from left to right, then return on the black line to finish the motifs in the squares. Then I freehand the continuous curves in blue. In the picture I’ve drawn the bottom curves first, then come back across the top. The last part are the freehand loops shown in green.
By working back and forth like this, I didn’t need to break my thread.
Thanks to all who entered my giveaway for the AccuQuilt GO! Me cutter! The giveaway closes this morning at 10 Central Time so you may still have a chance to enter. Check out yesterday’s post for details.
I started cutting some of my African fabrics into charms. I saw a fun quilt on Instagram using these.
It’s slow going, but I’ve made a few more tiny 9 patches. And yes, Terri, I may have been in the sun too long! 😂
I’m nearing the finish line for my temperature quilt!
Also, in case you don’t win the GO! Me cutter, AccuQuilt has all their die cutters on sale this month. No code needed.
One more thing, I’ve started a KatyQuilts Facebook page. You are welcome to follow and start a conversation there. I haven’t posted much yet, but I’d love to see what you all are making!
