Finally!

Yesterday was another busy day. First stop was at the vet. this guy is not happy.

I wouldn’t be either

Ouch! He has another incision as well. The vet removed a couple benign growths. After that more shopping, cleaning, cooking etc. ensued. Then off to the library to work for the evening. When I got home, I finally took some time to play withy new machine!

Such fun! Off to work again.

Busy, busy!

Lots going on here but no quilting. Here is one of the projects we crossed off the list yesterday:

20130507-094429.jpg
These are new cushions I made for Daughter #1’s mid century modern couch. I also modified a king size sheet to fit her queen size bed, added a bit of hand beading to her wedding garter, shopped for odds and ends etc. good thing I didn’t work yesterday! I have a full work week ahead of me and then I am off until after the wedding.
Sunday night, DH helped me finish the set up for this:

I can’t wait to play! But I must wait a while. The power cord that came with the machine is not for use in the US. Waaaaaaa! I called the dealer who called HQ and they are shipping out the right one ASAP. It’s probably a good thing since I don’t have time right now anyway.
Now I must get back to work!

Too tired to write much but here are a few pics from the Lansing show. Each quilt is followed by a shot of the label.

Consider the lilies

Notice how the lilies grow. They don’t wear themselves out with work, and they don’t spin cloth. But I say to you that even Solomon in all his splendor wasn’t dressed like one of these. (Luke 12:27 CEB)

Capitol Area Quilt Guild Show

My hubby took me to Lansing today for a quilt show. It was a great show! Here is my favorite quilt:

20130504-153412.jpg
I have more pics to show later. I wanted to go to check out a Nolting Fun Quilter since there was supposed to be a dealer there. I tried it out and it was fun indeed! I checked Out all the dealers there and tried out all the machines. You have to gather all the facts, you know.
We also had a great lunch.

This is the world’s best hubby.

20130504-153853.jpg
I didn’t buy any fabric at all. Just one little thing came home with me. Can you guess what it is?

Learning to see…

It is May 1st and I think spring has FINALLY come to Michigan! As I was having coffee with Jesus this morning, feeling thankful for this glorious season, I was pondering the difference between how things look and how we see them. Like this. When I look at this:

20130501-081228.jpg
….what I really see is this:

20130501-081317.jpg
The first picture really isn’t all that beautiful, but when i see that, my heart swells. I take a deep breath because I don’t see a slight bulge on the end of a stem, I see spring! I see the gloriously beautiful bloom that is soon to be here. I see what it will be and that makes what it is now, simply breathtaking.
When some people look at this:

20130501-081603.jpg
….they see one big tangled mess. But show this to a quilter and she will see this:

20130501-081652.jpg
We are good at making lovely things out of scraps! And this comes from seeing what could be, what will be.
In Deuteronomy, God is chiding Israel for her seriously bad behavior. Yet even then, He calls her Jeshurun. This name means upright, straight, the very best. Though she was one  hot mess, He loved her and saw her as she could be, would be, one day.

And He sees me that way too.
How awesome is that?
Until next time….

Get it Done – April and May Goals

Time to see how things went in April and plan for May! Here is my list of April goals:

1. Quilt and bind one more service quilt. Done!

2. Ship quilts to QBB. Done!

3. April SQT challenge quilt. Done!

4. May SQT challenge quilt. Done!

5. Small quilt for SQT Swap for Judith in Wales! Done and shipped!

6. Border and bind QOV # 12 (for April). Blocks are done and together. Done!

7. QOV #13 (for May). – Not done. Blocks are together, needs a border, quilting, binding, presentation case, and label. In other words, not even close.

8. Finish Yellow socks. I just turned the heel on sock #1. – Not done. Sock #1 is finished and the toe is started for sock #2. Not happy with the first one so it is hard to get motivated to do sock #2.

I also finished another service quilt that was not on the list. I worked on my free motion quilting on Barney. I cut and started piecing hexagons for another Civil War Repro lap quilt. I cut pieces for the DCSMLA. I posted two tutorials.

I don’t have great plans for May and here is why:

20130430-102012.jpg

So given that, here are my May goals:

1. Get Daughter #1 moved to her apartment.

2. Get Daughter #1 married!

20130430-102201.jpg

3. Finish May QOV.

20130428-213747.jpg

4. Survive it all with grace. Lots of grace.

If you don’t see much of me this month, this is why. I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Get it Done.

DCSMLA 1000 Pyramids

Ebony Love is the queen of die cutting! She is hosting the first ever Die Cut Scrap Make Later Along! She has a series of posts with embedded videos demoing various dies and die cutting machines. The idea is that you choose your own die and cut up scraps for a 1000 Pyramids quilt to be made later.
I had planned to cut up some 30s repels for this but when I went looking, I came across some scraps of Dutch wax prints I had purchased in Amsterdam. A small quilt made of these would coordinate beautifully with the original quilt I made from these fabrics. I will show that later but first, here are the details of my cutting spree.
Here is the die I used.

20130430-091723.jpg
Here are my cut pie

20130430-091803.jpg
And here is how I am storing them since this is a make later along.

20130430-091857.jpg

20130430-091912.jpg
And this is a sneak peak at what this will look like.

20130430-092001.jpg
Cutting these pieces literally took 20 minutes including pressing time. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my studio cutter?
Thanks to Ebony for hosting this!
ETA: Here is a pic of my inspiration quilt. My triangles are cut from the scraps from this quilt. I made this after visiting Holland with Dutch wax prints purchased there.

Sorry for the bad pic but it is dreary here again today.
