Thankful

I am so thankful to all of our military personnel, past and present. As many things as are wrong in our nation, I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. And yes, I HAVE lived elsewhere. I am especially proud and thankful for this beautiful young woman:

Yes, she is my daughter!
In other news, I am making progress on the baby quilt. I will probably finish it today.

Enjoy your day and remember to give thanks.

A new project

It seems like forever since I started something new! Last night, I had a hard time deciding what to even start. A co-worker and his wife are having a baby. I missed the shower due to the wedding but decided to gift the with a baby quilt I had already made. Here it is:

And here is the back.

All I needed to gift this was a gift bag. And this is what I found:

Hmmmm….nice and boyish but doesn’t exactly go with the quilt. I was okay with it until I started looking for that new project and found 5 nautical fat quarters in the stash! Much better!

I used my 4″ tumbler die to cut my pieces and I was soon in business.

This is how far I got before bed last night. I want to have this finished before i go back to work on Tuesday. I think I can do it!

The other quilt? It will find a home somewhere in Oklahoma. Happy Saturday!

String quilt finish

After a long day, I found the energy to bind the beast! Since this top has fabric from every decade from the 1930’s to the 1970’s, I decided to use a 1980’s fabric for the binding! As I worked in that, I couldn’t help but notice again all the funky scraps in this top. I took pics to share them with you.

The above photo shows the quilt before washing. I used JoAnn’s Soft and Crafty 100% cotton needle punched batting. Here is a picture after washing:

If this 40-50 year old quilt doesn’t look fresh and modern, I don’t know what does! I am so pleased with how this turned out and thrilled that it will soon find a home on my youngest daughter’s bed.
Until next time…

A small finish

Here is the after-wash picture of my little quilt from the DCSMLA hosted by Ebony Love.

I am not crazy about the binding but it is what it is. I am not changing it now. I am working today at the library but I hoping to get the binding done on the string quilt tonight.
Until next time….

Progress

I finished my little quilt top. It ended up about 30″ x 33″. The size was dictated by the fabric I had on hand. My Dutch wax prints from Holland are officially used up! I loaded it up on the frame and then….

… I got chicken. Couldn’t decide what to quilt so I ended up with…

Yep, again. Still just a little intimidated by this machine! Here is the back:

I finished the binding tonight while watching a movie. I will show the final after washing pic tomorrow. I also loaded this up:

This top was made by my husband’s grandmother, Effie , I would guess in the late 60s. She had a percale sheet all ready for the backing. My MIL gave this to me a couple years ago. She knew I would finish it one day. It didn’t exactly lay flat. It has a wild variety of scraps, everything from dotted Swiss to feed sacks and drapery weights. I quilted this in a large meander to nudge it into submission. I finished the quilting but will wait to post a pic until the binding is done.
Sure feels good to be back on the sewing room!

I’m back!

Finally feeling some what rested up from the wedding. To get back into sewing, I pulled out my triangles from the DCSMLA.

Not sure which way I like this netter.

In any case it is on the frame and ready to quilt. Just have to decide what to quilt!

If anyone is interested in a few more wedding photos, the photographer posted a few sneak peaks here.

I really need to do some laundry but I just want to play!

Until next time…

Design Wall Monday

Only 5 days until the wedding! This past weekend was filled with lots of this:

20130513-092405.jpg
Thankfully, we got all the kid’s stuff moved to the apartment and they are mostly unpacked. I had a wonderful Mother’s Day! It was the first in a long time that I had Daughter #2 home from the Air Force to enjoy the day with. Only #1 Son was missing and he will arrive with his lovely bride on Thursday night. Which is why my sewing room looks like this:

20130513-092812.jpg
And my design wall looks like this :

20130513-092849.jpg
DH found this sign for him at a sale recently. I decided to hang it up since I don’t have any projects there right now. That doesn’t mean I haven’t sewn anything! Our Michigan QOV coordinator sent out an email asking for a QOV for presentation to fulfill a request. I had the last one quilted but not bound. I was up early this morning and decided to see if I had anything that would work for binding and found I had one all prepared! I got the binding done, the presentation case sewn, and the label ready. The quilt is in the wash now and I will add pics as soon as it is out of the dryer. I will get it shipped today! It feels so good to get this finished. I hate to think of any of our vets waiting for a quilt. Here is the case and label:
I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for DWM.

Here is a pic of the finished quilt:

Now I’m off to the post office!

HMQS Quilting Treasures Challenge

Roberta Boyce  was instrumental in organizing the Quilting Treasures Challenge to benefit the new veteran’s home being built in Utah. The quilts were displayed at the HMQS Show  this pastweek. She was kind enough to send me a picture of the quilt I made as it hung in the show.

hmqs

I hope the veteran who receives this quilt will know how much I appreciate his/her sacrifice on behalf of our nation.

It’s a great Mother’s Day! I hope it is for you too. God is good and I am blessed with an amazing husband and the best kids ever!
